Re: Airport dilemma
Greetings Roger. You need to connect to your router and find out why it is not letting you connect. If you don't know how to connect to your router let us know the brand and model and someone will furnish you the i.p. address that will allow you to connect (though you browser) to the router. G4 Sawtooth os x 10.4.11 Print issue
Hi, G4 Sawtooth/350Mhz OS X 10.4.11 Tiger Recently my daughter's computer stopped communicating with her HP printer. I reloaded drivers, no luck. Printer works fine with my G5. Upon further investigation, it turns out her friend (in my absence) uninstalled various print software components from the OS (!!!) in order to delete an unwanted item in the print queue that apparently wouldn't go away. I would like to re-install said deleted components, but don't know which ones. Also, in a recent move, the install disc got misplaced. However, My G5 and said G4 have the identical OS, installed from the same install disc.Is it possible to re-install OS components via Ethernet network or crossover cable? CUPS (Common Unix Printing System) is the software that does the printing in OS X. You can open any browser and try to connect to http://127.0.0.1:631/ or http://localhost:631/ and see if you get the CUPS page. This isn't a webpage, it's how CUPS interacts with you via a HTML browser interface. I'm betting you'll see an error message that says the page isn't available. If you see this message, you can fix the problem by reinstalling CUPS. You can get CUPS for up to 10.4.11 directly from the CUPS ftp site. Under FinderGoConnect to Server... enter the address ftp://www.cups.org/ and when the CUPS server mounts use a new Finder window to navigate to pub/cups/1.2.12/ and drag the file cups-1.2.12.dmg to your desktop. You may be able to get the file from within a browser by entering the address ftp://www.cups.org/pub/cups/1.2.12/cups-1.2.12.dmg/ ? After you get this file cup-1.2.12.dmg you'll need to mount the .dmg file, and then double-click on the CUPS installer package to start Installer.app and reinstall CUPS. Once you're finished you'll probably need to restart your Mac, and things should be ok hopefully? G4 recovery
Some of you may recall, i had a few macs crash on me all at once. My iMac G4 lost video for some reason. Anyway, I hooked up the iMac G4 to my G4 DA through an ethernet crossover cable for 2 reasons: 1. I'd like to try to recover as much data off the imac as I can 2. I'd like to upgrade the DA to Tiger. The DA only has a cd drive while the imac has dvd, so i'd like to do a network upgrade Right now, for some reason, the setup is letting me copy files from the imac to the DA but, not from certain directories in the home folder such as musci, movies, pictures. Other stuff, even folders I created in the home directory, iI can move. Why is that? What is my easiest workaround? I of course have passwords to both machines, panther and tiger disks. How would I get control of the imac? I can launch its system prefs but it immediately closes. -- You received this message because you are a member of G-Group, a group for those using G3, G4, and G5 desktop Macs - with a particular focus on Power Macs.
