Attention all Minecraft players on PowerPC Macs Reguarding the MC 1.4.6 Update

2012-12-15 Thread Xion Dracari
while a good chunk of power PC Macs would probbly lag like heck on
minecraft it is being stated that as of the 1.4.6 the LWJGL Lightweight
Java Game Library in use by Minecraft will no longer be compatable with
Java 1.5 (Java 5) avilable to PowerPC Users see:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpagev=Hp66BBNOPno#t=529sforinfo
from youtuber AntVenom on the matter. (just him stating that its not
compatable with PowerPC Macs for 1.4.6 MC onwards) (offical notice from
mojang : http://www.mojang.com/2012/12/minecraft-snapshot-12w50a/)

i dont have much to say personally as the best G~ Mac i have is a G3 600mhz
Snow White iMac. thought i'd give a heads up incase anyone in this group
is oddly playing Minecraft on a G5,

I also ran AHT 1.2.6 on my QS 2002, and it showed no signs of problems.

Another thing I just realized I have been doing ... plugging /
unplugging my Firewire webcam while the system is booted up.

Could that be a cause of my woes? Since Firewire is not hot-swappable?

I saw one time in my system log, that an Ecamm plugin was somewhat
confused (I think)

Maybe the cpu has just gone bad.

Re: Throwing in the Towel

2012-12-15 Thread Richard Gerome
I bought that 9800 for a friend's G4 466mhz Tower and never used it because I couldn't flash the rom... I maxed the ram, put in a 250G 7200rpm HD (only reads 128G) and a new DVD super drive and installed Tiger. They had this 23" monitor for it and I just left the orig video card in it. I had to boot it up 3 or 4 times till the res was all the way up to it's max..? This was about 2 yrs ago and it's still working pretty good with no problems... So this left me wondering why so many put this 9800 in them??? Maybe someone here can tell me why they even use this 9800 card? When I go back to NC to visit them I'm going to download Leopard on it for them...-Original Message-

Unlikely, it would just freeze. Is the mouse pointer frozen when the Finder
freezes? Are you seeing a SPOD? Can you command-tap to other running programs

Send me your system and panic logs, (off list obviously!) so I can take a look.

PowerMac G4 Processor

2012-12-15 Thread Alex Sciortino
Hello. I have a dual 500mhz Powermac G4 that needs a new processor. I popped it
into my 400mhz Mystic and had the same issue of no boot. With the 400mhz CPU
both work fine. Where would I get a replacement and should I get the sonnet
1ghz upgrade? This is used as a FTP server.

Fleabay, LEM swap, etc. If all it does is serve up files that's IO bound not
CPU so no, getting the 1GHz would be overkill.

My 450MHz uniprocessor Sawtooth G4 handles fileserving just fine, to two
servers and several clients, plus automated backups. You need RAM and fast
I/O more than you need CPU in that configuration (mine is FW800 to a RAID 5
array, with a full load of RAM).

Not an expert on this, but maybe adding an SATA PCI card and SATA
drives.

Late ... Breaking News ...

According to another AHT run tonight, a Startup Error was reported:

POST / 16 / 64

A google search produced a discussion, which one contributor says it
possibly means some of the cpu cache is bad.

This would explain the kernal panics, and shut downs at Startup, and
flaky behavior when trying to use OS X.

OS 9 appears to be ok with bad cache, hence AHT 1.24 and 1.26 would
run off a CD.

Perhaps I need to by a new cpu card? a replacement Dual 1GHz would be
nice.

fleabay?

If that error is CPU cache replace it. My issue started with that and it
refused to bong today. They are cheap enough. I would recommend a dual 800mhz
or faster if you want to use it for anything other than a server.
