Error Code Question

2011-01-31 Thread Stephen Conrad
What exactly would cause these?

Machine: Quicksilver, 800 MHz, OS X 10.4.11, 1.5 GB RAM

O Yes, I updated (after I saw to do so while researching the 2nd error code)
Flash and ClickToFlash, the latter being something i thought I had done in
the past

1) What bugs me about the 1st one is that i _THINK_ I know which digital

2) I have no idea what this applies to nor do I know how to fix it

Reformat the card in the camera; I've had cards that were erased by the Mac
give me issues with 'ghost' images.

 2) I have no idea what this applies to nor do I know how to fix it

Safari tried to open an image file which specified an invalid colorspace type.
Most often this occurs when someone posts a CYMK image on the web instead of an
RGB one with bad metadata. This error is a precautionary note.

A lot of, if not most of the entries in the logs are for informational purposes
and aren't serious errors. This one is an example, there's a mismatch between
what a file metadata says it is and what it appears to be from the data.

This is good advice in general, when re-formatting something it is a

If you're looking for another application, I suggest Chronosync. It
has the highest level of control over what gets backed up and how of
any backup software I've ever used.

Use CCC.

It will let you select/exclude any set of folders and copy them to
another volume, and schedule that. The help files are pretty good...

...CCC uses rsync to do it's work. It is a custom build, with bug
fixes. Definitely worth using.

It's telling you that it doesn't like you, or it's a bad build.

Um... My note file has a couple of comments about rsync. I'm too
lazy to verify the info right now, but... fwiw... There are been
releases of rsync leave you with corrupted files. RsyncX, that I
find when I google, is from 2004! LONG before many updates
etc! Is there one newer than 2.1?

I recall reading on Bombich's site/forums (he's the author of CCC),
that they used backup-bouncer to test CCC, and the *patched* rcync it
includes, to verify that it WORKS.

IMO doing any large scale file manipulations - copy, backup, etc -
using outdated tools is a BAD IDEA.

Ok. I missed your over the LAN comment in your OP. But also in
your OP you say you want a ***BACKUP***.

CCC *will* backup files over AFP. It simply creates a sparse disk
image on the destination.

If your intention is to SYNCHRONIZE the files on both computers, so
each computer contains the same files and those files are equally
accessible with iTunes etc then use ChronoSync. It has an
up-to-date build of rsync in it.

Why so many copies? Why not just designate one machine as your
server and treat it like a NAS -- mount its volumes on your other
machines.

How big are said libraries? Perhaps a service like Dropbox would
work. In addition to stashing stuff (encrypted) in Amazon's cloud,
it automatically keeps things sync'd on every machine connected.

OS X has rsync built in, RsyncX is merely a GUI shell for an old version.

rsync on the mac works perfectly well.

I've written an rsync script that backs up a specific directory to a network
volume; then I used Platypus http://www.sveinbjorn.org/platypus to make it a
GUI app. Platypus is extremely useful for things like this.

Unfortunately it's on my machine somewhere at work and I can't find it right
now.

I want the libraries and DVD file accessible to all my machines so I want
synchronized copies on one of my machines other than the working machine,
if that makes sense that way if I add something on any box I can sync
  all the kids:-)

Why so many copies? Why not just designate one machine as your server
and treat it like a NAS -- mount its volumes on your other machines.

How big are said libraries? Perhaps a service like Dropbox would work.
In addition to stashing stuff (encrypted) in Amazon's cloud, it
automatically keeps things sync'd on every machine connected.

The libraries are all around 1.5 TB up also there are a few of them.

A bit big and expensive for Dropbox then. :)

The server idea is kinda what I'm doing I got real tired of all those damn
externals all over the place so I'm now using a PM G5 Dual 2.7 with 10 TBs
to do the storage But most of the time I use the MBP or one of the Cubes to
work with I want to be able to sync from where ever I am at the time. I
tried the Mobile Me thing but way too slow. I,m at the moment giving
Cronosync a try like Chance recommended maybe it will do the trick. I have a
lot of machines that I use in any given day, mostly because I can, and it
gives me something to do on the weekends fixing WIFU during the week.:-)

Lemme know how it goes with ChronoSync. I've heard good things about it.

 - Dan.

The ChronoSync application seems to be working as expected over my LAN. I would
like to see a progress bar like CCC has, maybe it has one I just need to poke
around a little.
The application has a nice way of selecting what and and where you want the
sync to take place. It has a lot of pretty cool options as to how specific you
want to get with this.

That's why I like ChronoSync. I use it to copy just the music and
movies from my ~600GB iTunes library to a 160GB portable drive.

This will allow me to have a travel HDD I can take with me and keep everything

A lot of times I go somewhere give out some DVDs or some music but I may pick
up some
and others may put some on my drives, this way no sweat just very easily
sync. This
will also do a great job on a lot of other stuff.
Thanks Chance for the recommend.

Error Code

2009-01-01 Thread George Hozendorf

I'm getting this error code 2STF/8/3: S-ATA Bus 0 - Master on an
iMac. Everything was fine after transferring data and applications
the first time it was started up. Now this. Any suggestions?
