Just to clarify: By door, my original post meant what a later poster more accurately called the bezel on the front of the tray. I was saying that after the drive was installed, the bezel on the front of the tray would not move through the provided hole in the MDD faceplate. Yes, the drive as a whole must be installed from behind, which I did. Sorry for any misunderstandings. Usually you push them up and off the tray; if you look closely you can see where they fit into keyways on the tray. Door is too wide to fit through the MDD faceplate, even after elaborate surgery. I was able to remove the front bezel off the Smurf tower and install a DVD-ROM into my Blue White G3 without removing the drive's front bezel, if that's good for anything... :) Optical drive in question was a Samsung. The Liteon Pioneer and Samsung are all the same when it comes to the bezel on the tray, they MUST be removed to operate in the Machine.
