Re: OS 9 boot CD

Oh G-Group, Oh G-Group!
I think this has been a very informative discussion.
We don't need to get snappy over Mac OS 9, do we?
I love Mac OS 9! Using it tonight! Can't wait to try out the new
Classilla version! I'll try it out this week!

The LEM Mac OS9 Group is live and well, with almost a thousand members:

Its messages are generally civil and focused, with few OT posts
 (unlike the G-Group).

OS 9 boot CD

2010-02-28 Thread Ray
Hello. I have a G4 MDD 1.25 with FW400 and I have been looking for a long time
for the original OS 9 CD that came with this computer. I have tried many
different OS 9 versions but for this G4, it has to have the exact CD's that
came with it to make it boot. Any help is greatly appreciated if you have this
exact model. thanks

Re: OS 9 boot CD

2010-02-28 Thread Michael G.M.
I think Apple themselves will work with you on this and let you buy a
copy, if you call them @ 1-800-MY-Apple.
You will need to give them the MDD's serial #.
Also, I thought some people on these threads mentioned that the eMac
Mac OS 9.2.2 install worked for the MDD. Though if you install it you
may need to boot disabling extensions the first time to disable a
couple for proper setup of Mac OS 9 native booting as some Classic
support extensions conflict with booting Mac OS 9 properly(?)

Best,
-Mike

A retail OS 9 CD will not boot my MDD. Had to have one

I believe Retail OS 9 CD has OS 9.1 on it ... for the MDD, Mactracker
says it boots with 9.2.2.

Maybe these links will help you find something:

http://lowendmac.com/deals/best-classic-mac-os-prices.html

Here's some forum discussions on it:

http://forums.macosxhints.com/showthread.php?t=88321
http://forums.macnn.com/65/mac-pro-and-power-mac/406722/g4-mdd-running-os9/

And LEM also has much info:

Is the OS 9 discussion group up and running some where?

My OS 9.2.2 Install disk is for my Quicksilver 2002 Dual 1GHz.

The MDD came out after 9.2.2 so it needs a slightly modified version of
9.2.2 that includes drivers, patches or whatever to support the MDD.
This is quite common that the OS disk that ships with a machine is a
modified version of the, then, current shipping OS. But since there
were no versions of 9 after 9.2.2, only the version that shipped with
the MDD has what is needed.
