That depends. putting the disks to sleep is a no-brainer...yes. Putting the
system to sleep depends on why you're running it 24/7. If it's because it's
running as a server (file, print, web, iTunes, etc) of some sort, then they
systems should be kept awake. If not, just turn it off, save the energy.

Is there a way with the OS or maybe a 3rd party app to have the system sleep at
an exact time of day/night? And possibly specify certain other criteria.
Like unless current user is active, if yes then wait for 30min inactivity... ?
Maybe I'm asking for too much.

FYI my system is iMac late 2011 27 2.7Ghz i5 12GB Ram OS 10.7.3

System PreferencesEnergy Saver use the Schedule button to set the
times and the function.

That is what I was looking for thank you. But I was hoping for more
options/functions. What if I happened to be using the computer at the time it
is scheduled to shut down will it warn and give me the option to delay or
cancel?
I didn't even realize that schedule button was there how long has it been
there? hmm just checked 10.4.11 its there guess I just never payed attention
that much on the energy saver panel. lol

Thank you
Louis

 Hi all,

I'm curious as to what folks are using for the following system preferences:

 System Sleep
 Disk Sleep
 Display Sleep

I'm currently putting my display to sleep after 30 min., but never allowing
the computer nor hard drives to sleep.

Since I leave my computer running 24 x 7, I'm wondering if I should be also
putting the system and disks to sleep as well.
