Re: Mail 2.1.3 Yahoo Mail

2011-06-24 Thread admin
I have been having the same problem lately. I just keep re-entering
the password and one can access through a web browser. It may be an
issue with Mail 2.1.3 - Tiger?

Also, be sure and DO NOT RESPOND to the spam please verify your
account e-mails that seem to stalk Yahoo.

SPAM is getting smarter, I guess. AOL Mail used to intercept just
about everything, but more and more spam is getting through these days.

That's totally completely massively unacceptable from a for-$$$
service provider. Get thyself away from them ASAP.

Seriously, considering dropping Yahoo, except I've had the address
for so long and it's associated with can't-remember-how-many
accounts.

Yea. I know how that goes. What a PITA. I've got several GMail
accounts, a Yahoo account, and a few elsewhere.

When my original provider, Netaddress -- the ubercool @usa.net domain
- went pay, I thought ... ok, it was cheap. But then the next year
they went PAY! wtf! From $12 to $50/yr! So I went to Yahoo. About
the time I got things migrated, Yahoo went pop-for-pay! g.
Before that changeover they were rock solid. After, outages and
other problems galore! That's when I switched to GMail. Kept the
Yahoo account as webmail. Took me about two years to migrate fully.

I spend hours trying many different configs.

I'm finding two different sets of settings being recommended in
Yahoo's help system. How nice.

This page seems to be the latest, and was updated YESTERDAY (June 23)!

http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/yahoomail/mailplus/pop/pop-14.html

It says to use
   pop.mail.yahoo.com, SSL and port 995.
   smtp.mail.yahoo.com, SSL, port 465, auth.

But then other (older) pages say to use servers such as
   plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com
and
  plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com
(same ssl and port settings)

Finally, for now anyway, I'm having Yahoo mail forwarded to my other
email address.

Good. And when you reply, it should have the better address on the
outgoing messages. Start telling people to use it instead...

I have found Apple Mail doesn't work with the free Yahoo Mail
service. You have to pay for their premium mail account.

Well, yea. Their free service is webmail only. To use Apple Mail
you need POP3 or IMAP.

Yes, I'm a paid customer.

So, finally found the Yahoo complaint (customer care) form yesterday
late.

Today, Yahoo POP3 working OK.
No way of knowing what's different.

One of the main reasons I've kept the Yahoo acct was ease of web mail
for the rare
traveling. But, I think I'll now begin migrating elsewhere.

Thanks for all the input and support.

Use Keychain Access and go delete all saved internet passwords for Yahoo.
This has cleared up similar issues Ive seen in the past.

Thanks for that suggestion Bruce.
I did try that and since I use 1Password I also deleted all yahoo
entries.
Still no joy.
I now cannot POP mail yahoo at all.

Kind of surprised at Yahoo's site and help. Full of false references
and incomplete information.
The do not even mention Mac Mail in their set up advise.

Yahoo's repeated authentication issues notwithstanding... Make sure
your authentication settings match their current requirements, tls

I have Mail rule that puts the forwarded emails into a mailbox, but
