there's a mac guy who runs a shop in RI who often posts items for sale on
the LEM swap list. his handle is bensdad. you might search LEMswap for
that name and send him a PM to see if he has a bad display with a good
stand.

Thanks Richard I agree. It is a small monitor but is heavy enough to put a lot
of sheer stress on the small plastic neck that is only about 4mm x 10mm. --But
I was looking for a good epoxy for a different project maybe JB Weld is the way
to go.

I may take Brian's easel or Roger's  tripod suggestions and check out the local
retail outlets for such a devices. The wall mount is out since I only use the
monitor to check out newly acquired used Mac's. And as suggested I may place an
ad in the local Craig's List or FreeCycle for a broken Studio Display but I
don't think they are that common around here.

Most likely it will quicker an easier for me to just make some sort of easel or
tripod like device from left over wood hanging around the shop. It won't be
pretty but it should work. I thought since the support base on these monitors
are fragile and prone to break from boneheads moves like the one I did that the
replacement parts would be available.

Thanks for ALL the replies --glen

the G5 tower behind it to help adjust angle. Maybe some thought at a

JB Weld epoxy, if you can drill some tiny holes around the crack so that it can seep into the holes along the crack it should hold? I usually drill a couple lines of holes spaced out and staggered and I also drill the holes at different angles too. I can't see what you have so I can't tell you exactly how to drill the holes??? Then when it is hardened up for a couple days you can sand it and paint it to match the color of it!-Original Message-

Re: Studio Display Monitor Broken Hinge

2012-03-05 Thread Roger Faulkner
I have two and one had the same issue. Like you, I tried every variant of
glue but as you found out the connection points are just to tenuious to
hold.

My solution? Went to a local discount outlet and bought a small (in this
case wrought iron) 3-D tripod picture holder. One that allowed the monitor
bottom to nestle in the holder while the back adjustable leg gave
stability.

You might find something like this at a local art supply retail store. If
you find the right fit you might think about mounting it on a wall -- saves
desk space.

Good luck.
