Re: Switching to an LCD

2008-11-14 Thread kyhardhead

I had the same problem with my BW. The LCD monitor also refused to
work when booting into OSX from 8.6 or 9.x. Zapping the PRAM fixed the
problem, but only for one boot cycle.

Check your monitor cable - some VGA cables are missing the sync-on-
green pin, as did mine. When I replaced the cable with one having a
full complement of pins, problem went away.

Re: Switching to an LCD

2008-11-10 Thread Barrie Templeton

I also have a Blue and White G3, and have connected two different LCDs
without problems. The current one is a Samsung that My wife didnèt
like on her Gateway, so I swapped the screens. I would suspect some
setting in the video card or perhaps a glitch there. (Especially since
it works after attaching a CRT monitor. There is probably an impedance
difference between the two screen types, but the card should be able to
handle that.

Hi. I just picked up a used blue and white G3 and I'm trying to use a
spare Dell LCD monitor with it. It only works if I plug in the old CRT
to the display card first, then unplug it and plug in the LCD.
Otherwise it just blinks a little as if trying to display. No problems
restoring after sleep state. The card is an ATI Rage 128. I've used
PCs since the late 80s and build my own, but never used or opened a
Mac before and I'm pretty lost on the insides. I don't seem to find
discussions on this so I don't know if it is just my problem or
there's a proprietary thing I have to work around or if it is just too
 old. Any help appreciated.
