Out of curiosity, what IS the max RAM it can handle? I've heard up to 768MB, but some sites say something like 384MB, which is obviously quite a difference! Thanks, Heather I have 768MB in my G3 - the 384 limit was quoted when the biggest stick available was 128MB. Some sites never updated their info. Although PC66 is specified, it will happily run with PC100, which is what I still have in my G3 Minitower, now rarely used... VGA video card for Power Mac G3?
Hi, all, I'm brand new to this group, and in the spirit of full disclosure, I've never owned a Mac before and haven't used one since Computer Lab in seventh grade. My dad has recently come to live with me, and as I didn't want him using my computer anymore, I decided to get him his own. That turned out to be a Power Mac G3 beige, and finding parts for it has been a bit of a chore (e.g, I had no idea before we got it that it wouldn't work with any of the PC mice or keyboards I have lying around). The monitor that came with it recently died, so now I'm trying to find a new one. The problem is that it only seems to support an ADC monitor (or so the girl at the Mac store said when I described the port to her over the phone), and they don't seem to make those anymore. What I'd like to do is swap out the video card for one that supports VGA (I've performed video card upgrades on PCs before, I'm hoping the surgery is about the same). Will this be possible? And if so, can anyone recommend a VGA card that's not too expensive that the G3 beige can support? (It doesn't have to be fancy- my dad really only needs the computer to check his e-mail and browse YouTube.) Thanks in advance, Heather -- You received this message because you are a member of G-Group, a group for those using G3, G4, and G5 desktop Macs - with a particular focus on Power Macs. She is mistaken. That's an old style Mac display port. ADC came several years later, during the G4 era. It sounds strange but if you do have an ADC port on your Mac then an ADC to VGA adapter is readily available on eBay:-) John M Anaheim OC dadbe...@gmail.com -- You received this message because you are a member of G-Group, a group for those using G3, G4, and G5 desktop Macs - with a particular focus on Power Macs. All you need to connect a standard VGA display to it is an adapter like the following: http://www.amazon.com/Cables-02902-Female-Adapter-Beige/dp/B0002J1JAE Far cheaper than a Radeon card. That's only $8 cheaper than at least one of the Radeon cards I found on eBay, and considering the exponential improvement in video quality both in terms of processing power and display compatibility (those Mac-VGA adapters are always of questionable quality) I would hardly call it *far* cheaper than a Radeon card or a real alternative. Re: VGA video card for Power Mac G3?
Hey, guys, Thanks for the suggestions! Think this one'll do the job? It says PCI and mentions G3 and OS9.2.2 as supported models (which is exactly what I'm working with): http://cgi.ebay.com/ATI-Radeon-9200-Mac-128MB-PCI-Bus-Card-/170541426488?pt=PCC_Video_TV_Cardshash=item27b50fa738 Thanks, Heather On Sat, Sep 25, 2010 at 1:08 PM, admin oneluc...@mac.com wrote: Heather, great suggestion. Yup, that's the later upgrade from the 7000. Go for it. On Sep 25, 2010, at 1:26 PM, Heather Cotter wrote: Thanks for the suggestions! Think this one'll do the job?
