Re: [Audyssey] raceway

2006-05-04 Thread Gary Whittington
Puttin realizim in RaceWay is what is about.I have discuss this beore.
During any Red Flag situations like bad weather conditions, a bad wreck,
debris or oil from a spent engine. During a Red Flag once you have stopped
your car, Race announcer can give you stats on the race. The number of
laps completed, Race leader with an option to include the top five or top
ten, average lap speed for race, insedrt in between what is happening to
get race back going: like raining letting up a bit, track is almost cleared
of debris. Long delay could report who had left the race and why, like Joe
Blow, blew Engine, Fred Goggles Flintstone: Chipped Wheell. If was a
wreak a report on drivers health. During any stoppage your Chew Chief can
be giving you advice asking questions where you can nod your head saying Yes
or No with the arrow keys.. So there would need to be two different quality
of voices. ONe sounding like it is coming from a PA system and depending if
you are listening to your Crew Chief through the car window where it may
sound like he is shouting or off your helmet ear phone.

Sothere is enough here to keeps one interest, where the game is not just
idle during race stoppage. Weather stoppage would be in rare. There has
not been many races finished under rain fall, but it does happen. In fact

this brings up a new subject for Raceway. The Rules of finishing races.
Like many sims there should be options to choose from. My hope that Raceway
is to be more of a sim then just a game. So, there could be a option on how
races are finished. Through the years of Nascar there has been changes to
the rule and can be made as an option. Many rules in the game could be
options. ONe option could be the positioning of the racecars in the
starting lineup. This may effect one placement in the lineup. ONe could
have the fastest in front or in the rear. The Daytona race has a special
way dong also. An option to set the number of cars that are in the race and
Pit options. For instance say if you are not good pitting your racecar, the
racer could put on auto pilot. But using this the driver may lose more
time. That way the racer would need to learn to pit on their selves. This
could be a beginner mode. OPtions for passinager mode where it would be
full auto pilot mode, where it would be like riding shot gun. This feature
could come in handy when the phone rings.

Lastly a spectator mode where it would be like watching a race. Here you
could then check the progress of the race by following the leader or other
racecars. And here you could just sit back and hear either the announcer
narrate the race or a test box displaying the action. For those who may not
want to race but be the Pit Crew Chief would have a Crew Chief mode. Here
you can manage your drive through a race. Letting the racer to drop to the
bottom of the trace a oil slick is at the top of the track, a crash in turn
four slow down and start charging the leader is behind you. Check the race
car for gas, engine wear, handleing and ask your driver questions to make
decisions.

With these options and rules and more Raceway would become a sim then a
game. IN way a sim is having a games inside a game. I have played many
racing games that had to deal with Nascar and these are not new ideas.
Since there is going be more delay for Raceway then lets not rush it out and
put a package that is either a while system or one that will be upgradable.
Certainly raceway should be a head to head sim someday and that also can be
an option mode as well.

Thanks to Tom, in letting all us know the situation of his games. He had
kept us updated before aquiring North's games and now since there is more to
report, Tom has done a good job in informing us on this list. There is only
a few who do and we all enjoy reading about games even if its game
development. Let the updates and ideas and help flow. Being bad, bood news
even how to program a sould effect. This is the hub for blindgamers and no
news and help would make this list more but banter. Raceway is one of the
biggest reason I am on this list besides letting folks know what I am doing
with Strat games. And soon there is going to be new on what I am doing.
For now all I can tell you is that the audio instructions are going on to
playball.ws in a matter of days. And once I have done this a voice forum
will be next for playball.ws. I am testing the software on Shadowbeam.com
right now. At this time you can check out the player that will be a part of
my voice forum by giong to shadowbeam.com. Just remember that I am testing
things out there. For a week or so I will not be touching the intro player
player on the shadowbeam.com so you could go see the player and hear a intro
music. Different version of Jaws will either put you right on the player or
on the web page. I still need to revamp the web page to indicate my
findings. ON the

Skypecasts and the Blind Community, a Revolution!

By Jonathan Mosen

I will never forget the day when Shoutcast was released. On that day, I
realised that this was going to be huge for the blind community.
Broadcasting over the Internet had been democratised. using Winamp and a few
free tools, you could netcast like the big boys.

Skypecasts give me the same feeling.

LINK:
http://skypecasts.skype.com/

Released in beta, Skypecasts allow up to 100 Skype users to congregate for
any imaginable purpose. perhaps there is a common interest that brings
together friends and strangers alike. perhaps it's a family planning what's
going to happen at Christmas. perhaps a company wants to run a focus group,
or perhaps someone wants to provide a lecture or tutorial, where listeners
are muted initially, but where questions can be answered at the conclusion
of the formal part of the presentation. If you combine Skypecasts with a
plug-in that records the event, such as Skylook, you can upload the archive
to your web site as a permanent record.

In a blindness context, this has phenomenal implications. Blind people have
always keenly used the Internet for voice communication. Sites like
Audio-Tips and For-The-People have provided a meeting place through which
blind people can get together. Particularly where the I-Vocalize chat client
is concerned, there are still services Skypecasts can't provide, such as the
ability for moderators to take over the browser.

However, Skypecasts lower the barrier to entry for those who want to host
large events of any kind. From an accessibility point of view, my initial
findings are encouraging. it's not perfect, but it is useable.

When you join or create a Skypecast, a new browser window pops up. The
window contains buttons and links pertaining to each participant. The
Skypecast host can mute and unute participants one at a time, or mute and
unmute everyone. You can send chats to your participants as well, and if
necessary, the host can eject people from the Skypecast.

This is all very accessible, however the page does not appear to refresh in
a screen reader's virtual buffer when a new participant joins, such as
Window-eyes's Browse Mode or JAWS's Virtual Cursor. This means that it's
necessary to turn your virtual buffer on and off again to ensure you have
the latest view of who is in your Skypecast.

This is the only issue I have discovered so far. other than that, Skypecast
works beautifully with screen readers. This, I predict, will be a huge hit
in the blind community. Just watch it explode!

Re: [Audyssey] wav files

2006-05-04 Thread Neo
HI Rich,
well, I am not a developer myself yet so I cannot recommend any really good
free sound libraries but that's not the reason why I'm writing this. I'd
just like to ask, out of curiosity, whether you are gonna think about
accessibility for this game project as well? :-)
Would be fine to have something like a toggle for the additional navigation
sounds etc. (I mean, when you say you have to do it for your game
programming class, it's probably expected to be targeted to the sighted, but
implementing blind accessibility would be avesome too! :-).

JFW 6.0? Also, if we do go on to Skypecast, could someone write a message or

Couldn't you have a sound clip? Some wav files of snowballs hitting people,
their responses, something like that? Or you could participate in a
snowball fight adding to the game an extra dimention. It'd be a shooter
bonus or special random event that'd definately add some flair. How many
race games take time out for a snowball fight? LOL. Could be popular
non-the-less. I mean at the horse racing game from lighttech the bonus
round is dogs chasing a horse. That doesn't usually happen but hey, it is
cool.

[Audyssey] wookies

2006-05-04 Thread Chris Frahm
Yeahplaying as a wookie would be action packed. You woulnd't need much armor
and could kick some serious booty.
This reminds me of those rpg's with allt he different classes of people. You
have like the seal clubbers in the kindom of loathing, or barbarians...this
could be wookies. You could have your standard gedi warriors, your masters
with more zen like approaches, dark storm troopers for your evil side.
Something like this.
At any rate, I know that goes against the formatting of your arcade shoot 'em
up game style, which I also am definately inteerested in. But an audio game
like this I would be absolutely positive to buy.
And I am not usually this interested in Star Wars being a dyed in the wool
trekkie. But hey, I'm open to new universes and experiences. Never thought
I'd play racing games or tank games (being a pacifist in real life) but it's a
blast so to speak.
Have fun,
Chris

I a m trying to fire my tanks guns and for some reason they arent' hitting
the target. I listened to Kelly Supurga (can't spell I'm truly sorry)
play
it and I tried to follow the example he gave. For some reason I can get
it
in range, can target it rounding to the nearest 50 but I don't hear the
final targeting solution sound so I end up wasting all my mistles 'cause I
can't figure out how to move the turrets correctly. I move using the left
and right arrows when I'm targeting but that doesn't work.
What am I doing wrong? Am enjoying what I've played so far though. If I
can only fire my guns though!!! ARRRGH!*hugs*

you coud have the option to have the full length of time the delay could

 Hi Christopher.
Adding some rpg elements such as being able to change the race of the
player would be certainly interesting. As you pointed out

a Wookie Jedi would be a fierce warrior. You not only have the normal Jedi
skills but physical size and strengthover a human player. You would be
 very skilled on forest planets.
Other races from the Star Wars universe would have their own interesting
 abilities.

Tank Commander does not have extra missions. However, Lonewolf does.
As for Lone wolf it is a fun game. One of my favorites. It does have
somewhat of a learning curve, it has various controls to learn to run
the sub, once you get the hang of it it is one of the most replayable
games on the market. It's ability to be modified and expanded makes it
even more so.

If all goes well, then I may switch the format to music and tourney updates.

Re: [Audyssey] strategy games

2006-05-04 Thread Gary Whittington
The strat-o-Matic company only does American Major sports.

The audio instructions for the
Strat o Matic Instructions Jukebox
Will help you along with learning the games. I have just downloaded to
playball.ws a file that is two hours long. I still needed to write the
blurb for it in the jukebox.

The strat o Matic football had a big break through in making it accessible,
that allow me to work with it. I was able to find software that even helps
Jaws to make the play calling a snap with
Hot Spot Clicker. This was the only game that needed a third party
software. The good folks who created and improved Hot Spot Clicker are
blind programmers who developed the tool to help with those new types of
graphical buttons and such that Jaws has overlooked. The developemnt of
Jaws recently has gone away from making applications accessible to doing
things on the net Daisy books. Hot Spot Clicker tool is for applications,
but it does help in gaming as well.

I am not a first class Jaws script writer, but what I have done so far the
games with Strat I am proud of and willing now to share my work with others,
so they too , can play Sports Sims. Where you can replay seasons from the
past. Replaying the 1985 football season to relive the Bears Championship
season. I have also recently purchase the 1985 Basketball season to replay
the season and coach a rookie name Jordan. Relive the 1980's Oylimpic
Miricle. Right now I am in a draft for the 1937 season in my net league.

The Basketball game is nearly completed in making it access to play. And the
audio instructions will also go into the
Strat o Matic Instructions Jukebox. The Jukebox will also allow you to hear
the audio and save it to your hard drive. The Jukebox will include
downloaded files of the startup kit for baseball and the Jaws config files
to make the games accessible.

There is still a way to go in making the games even more accessible by ease
of use. I want to not just make them accessible, but easier to use. By
cutting down on the movement of Jaws with frames and such. I have also been
working on Voice recognition with the baseball game. This has been
successful and interesting.

As for the

The strat-o-Matic company only does American Major sports.

 The audio instructions for the
 Strat o Matic Instructions Jukebox
Will help you along with learning the games. I have just downloaded to
playball.ws a file that is two hours long. I still needed to write the
blurb for it in the jukebox.

The strat o Matic football had a big break through in making it
 accessible,
that allow me to work with it. I was able to find software that even
 helps
Jaws to make the play calling a snap with
Hot Spot Clicker. This was the only game that needed a third party
software. The good folks who created and improved Hot Spot Clicker are
blind programmers who developed the tool to help with those new types of
graphical buttons and such that Jaws has overlooked. The developemnt of
Jaws recently has gone away from making applications accessible to doing
things on the net Daisy books. Hot Spot Clicker tool is for applications,
but it does help in gaming as well.

I am not a first class Jaws script writer, but what I have done so far the
games with Strat I am proud of and willing now to share my work with
 others,
so they too , can play Sports Sims. Where you can replay seasons from
 the
past. Replaying the 1985 football season to relive the Bears
 Championship
season. I have also recently purchase the 1985 Basketball season to
 replay
the season and coach a rookie name Jordan. Relive the 1980's Oylimpic
Miricle. Right now I am in a draft for the 1937 season in my net league.

The Basketball game is nearly completed in making it access to play. And
 the
audio instructions will also go into the
Strat o Matic Instructions Jukebox. The Jukebox will also allow you to
 hear
the audio and save it to your hard drive. The Jukebox will include
downloaded files of the startup kit for baseball and the Jaws config files
 to make the games accessible.

There is still a way to go in making the games even more accessible by
 ease
of use. I want to not just make them accessible, but easier to use. By
cutting down on the movement of Jaws with frames and such. I have also
 been
working on Voice recognition with the baseball game. This has been
 successful and interesting.

No its not like a video game. You do manage your team on the field through
Manager decisions.

The game does cost, but what I supply don't.

Moments ago I have just launched the
Strat Instructions Jukebox at:

http://www.playball.ws

With a new music intro

The baseball league that I am is going to have its 1936 stats updated here
soon. IN other words I have switched from working on shadowbeam.com and its
voice forum to update the playball.ws site.

So, to find more about Strat head over to:

Re: [Audyssey] strategy games

2006-05-04 Thread Gary Whittington
Smiles thanks. All my work is for my own enjoyment, but why not share it.

With the
Strat Instructions Jukebox is my way to get others involved to help me reach
my dream of having blind community sport sim leagues.

You can also email me off:

http://www.playball.ws

and let me now if your interested and what sports. I then send out emails
at times letting you know what I am doing.

If you do belong to FTP then I am going to the game chat and there you can
ask me questions there.

Hot Spot Clicker tool is for
 applications,
but it does help in gaming as well.

I am not a first class Jaws script writer, but what I have done so far
 the
games with Strat I am proud of and willing now to share my work with
 others,
so they too , can play Sports Sims. Where you can replay seasons from
 the
past. Replaying the 1985 football season to relive the Bears
 Championship
season. I have also recently purchase the 1985 Basketball season to
 replay
the season and coach a rookie name Jordan. Relive the 1980's Oylimpic
Miricle. Right now I am in a draft for the 1937 season in my net league.

The Basketball game is nearly completed in making it access to play. And
 the
audio instructions will also go into the
Strat o Matic Instructions Jukebox. The Jukebox will also allow you to
 hear
the audio and save it to your hard drive. The Jukebox will include
downloaded files of the startup kit for baseball and the Jaws config
 files
 to make the games accessible.

There is still a way to go in making the games even more accessible by
 ease
of use. I want to not just make them accessible, but easier to use. By
cutting down on the movement of Jaws with frames and such. I have also
 been
working on Voice recognition with the baseball game. This has been
 successful and interesting.

 Josh de Lioncourt here,

I already have and use Skype, so this is definitely a viable option
for me. I co-host a podcast via Skype and have found it to work very
well. I'm not sure how well it works with groups over three or four,
as I've only got two co-hosts, but it works fine with three and four
so I wouldn't foresee problems with a few more.

For more info on the podcast, visit http://www.MastersCast.com

Hello,
Skype 2.0 or anything above is indeed accessible without scripts.
Shaun, it's possible to use Skype. Yes, even the latest version. Try it out,
play around with it... Not flaming here, but this kind of reminds me of when
you can't beat a game there's something wrong with it. If we can all use it,
you can too.
Ryan

So you sedate and drown in vain
You've got a pill for every day
A suit and tie to mask the truth
It's ugly head is starting to show through
Sometimes when you're out of rope
The way to climb back up's unclear
The walls you build around yourself
I guess they also keep you here
Are you afraid of what they think?
Whoever 'they' happen to be
Or are you hiding from the scars
Of your own reality?
The monster you're feeding, your lack of perception
The things that you do to fulfill addictions
The light at the end of your tunnel is closing
What is it that you're so afraid of exposing
You'd give it all up
For what's there for the taking
Whatever it takes to keep your hands from shaking
The same things you're thinking might make you feel better
The same things that probably got you here. - Aaron Lewis

A program is either accessible or it isn't. Scripts may make a
program easier to use, but they do not make it accessible. If
scripts can be made to use a program, then you can use the program
without the scripts.

It has been my experience not to take everything blind people say as
gospel. Many of them don't like to learn to use a program. If it
doesn't work the way they think it should, they declare it
inaccessible. I always try everything, regardless of what i read on
lists, as the information is not always entirely accurate. *smile*

Re: [Audyssey] skypecasts

2006-05-04 Thread Draconis Entertainment
In the hopes of seeing more accessible game podcasts, I will answer
this question, as I fele it may be on topic for accessible game
reviews and chats.

Setting your sound card recording input to Stereo Mix or What You
Hear will allow you to record Skype conversations with most
commercial audio editing/recording packages. For higher quality,
many podcasts are recorded on an external device, such as digital
recorders. This Week In Tech is a highly popular one that is done
in this way, and is the prefered method.

Hello,
Just wondering what you use to record directly from skype?
Thanks.

I'm wondering if we an use this as a means of the Thursday and Saturday
chats. This way one just needs a skype account, no need to go with f-t-p
 and their policies.

Hi.
Well, I wasn't planning on it. Although, I suppose they could be added
for the mission where you have to protect Leia from the assassination
attempt. Although, her own Nogry guards are pretty good.
