 Hi, listers.
I know many of you are interested where we are with the Monty patch. I'm
glad to say it is almost ready for release. I am expecting it to hit the
web site in the next 24 to 48 hours or so. I'll be given a more specific
time when I know for certain when I plan to post.
Since you all want to know what is going on I am pasting in the release
notes from today which will explain all the major changes and updates
done to the game so far.

 Montezuma's Revenge

 Release Notes

 July 7, 2006

The following patch release contains a number of changes and bug fixes
since version Alpha 1. Please, read this document to find out important
 changes since Alpha 1.
In the previous release the spacebar or numpad 0 key was held down
followed by an arrow key to jump. In this patch to jump simply press
spacebar or numpad 0 and Angela will jump in the direction she is
facing. See manual for more information on jumping.
In the previous release sometimes Angela would unexpectedly die when
jumping. This error has been corrected, and all tests to this point
indicate this error is completely gone.
In the prier release it was possible to jump through the ceiling to
other levels in the temple. This bug has been corrected, and it is no
longer possible to jump through the ceiling.
In the previous release there was an error where Angela could climb up
ropes and then climb through the ceiling. This bug has now been
corrected, and climbing ropes now acts normally stopping Angela at the
 top of a rope.
At the beginning of temple 1 the monster detection key, m, would
announce a snake which was not there. This error has been removed, and
monster detection now appears to be working properly.
In the prier release there was a bug where the object scan key, o, would
not find scrolls, torches, and ropes. This bug has been corrected, and
 is working now.
Sometimes when walking through the temple Angela would freeze and would
not move. An error was discovered in the level1.map file which has now
been corrected. Traveling through the temple without freezing should
 work at this point.
In the first release of Alpha 1 Angela would fall off of ladders when
she went to far left or right. This has now been changed. It is now no
longer possible for Angela to fall off a ladder.
In the previous release when Angela ran int to walls and ceilings Angela
would scream. This behavior has been changed to simply have Angela let
 out a simple gasp.
New in this release you can now view a map of temple 1. To view the map
press v, and escape will exit. Use the arrow keys, numpad navigation
keys, or other movement keys to navigate the map. For more information
on viewing the map see the official manual.
In the first release of Alpha 1 there was an error in the way sounds
were rendered. This has been corrected, and sounds should sound more
balanced and natural. In addition the internal volume for the effects
has been braught up so they can be heard easier.

Hi, Maria.
Well, a pogo stick is a long stick, kind of like a broom handle, with
two places on each side of the bottom to place your feet. At the very
bottom is a part usually made out of rubber. The idea is to hold on to
the upper handle, stand on the two places for your feet and hop or
bounce around on it. I can say from experience you need good balance or
you will go flying off or bounce right on to your face or flat on your
bottom.
They are rather fun, but like most toys for children once deamed unsafe

OK this is going to sound retarded, but I had this toy called a hippity-hop
or something. It was like a big rubber ball with a handle. You sat on it,
grabbing onto the handle and hop. Then the ball bounces and you feel the
effect and bounce along yourmerry way. I know, sounds totally unfun but as a
child I loved it. Always was too easily amused. LOOLOLOOLOLOLOLOLOLOL
Anyway, this pogostick thing mademe think of it. OHH yeah, funny story
about pogo sticks. had a friend in a talent show who bounced on a pogo
stick while squeaking a melody on his earlobe. I kid you not, he could do
this. Was pretty incredable and I would've given it an A+++
But unfortunately my music teacher didn't think squeaking melodies on your
earlobe counted as talent, even though it was done on the percarious perch
of a pogostick.

Subject: [Audyssey] Code Factory's mobile phone games

 Hello all,
I'm sorry if this was asked before, but when I looked back over the
discussion on Mobile phone games, I couldn't find this discussed. Firstly,
as owners of Mobilespeak will know, Mobilespeak does come with a game of
Minesweeper. My real question is that Code Factory have got other games
for
mobile phones, which you can buy in a pack. They also have I think a
colour
detecting thing used with the phone, and a light detecting program. The
problem is that the dealer here doesn't sell these extra softwares, and
when
I go and download the games to try, it won't let me, I need a code to
actually unlock and register them. Has anyone tried the games, and what
are
they like? I also wonder if their are any games playable by wap, sort of
online games? I agree that it would be cool to have so more entertainment
 for the mobile phones.
Actually, talking about Code Factory, all their products are actually
extremely hard to get. I did get KM2000 from Independent Living Aids, but
their's nowhere where you can buy their games online. Another thing is
that,
I actually contacted Once to ask them the prices of the games, and the
shipping to SA was about 3 times as much as the game! We still wonder
whether they sort of made a mistake, but I have asked Sensory Solutions to
see how much they can get the games for, still waiting for the answer.

[Audyssey] Montezuma's Revenge patch released.

2006-07-08 Thread Thomas Ward
Greetings gamers.
All of us at USA Games Entertainment would like to announce the
immediate availability of Montezuma's Revenge Patch 1. This patch
release fixes a number of problems with jumping, audio processing, and
falling off ladders. In addition several new features have been added
such as the new view map viewer mode as well as monster and object
detection scans now speak the distance to object or monster.
Using the new map view features is quite easy. If you are in an unknown
area pressing the v key will load a map of the temple, and let you use
the navigation keys to explore the temple without moving your character.
The map viewer will announce such items as gold, gems, ladders, edges,
lava pits, and more. To exit the map viewer and return to normal play
press escape.
In addition to the map viewer feature Montezuma's revenge Patch 1
includes better object and monster scans. Now, when the m key is pressed
for monsters or o is pressed for objects the item is named and the
relative distance is then spoken. This will aid players in locating
objects and warn players when a monster is to close.
In the prier release scrolls, torches, and ropes were not detected by
the object scan. In patch 1 they are now detected with the object scan
and as with all objects the distance is given.
Finally, jumping has for the most part been fixed. Previously the space
key was pressed followed by the arrow key. This resulted in unexpected
deaths of the game character. Now, the has been changed to only press
the space key which will jump the character in the direction she is
facing at the time.
For more information or to download the patch visit our download page at

Re: [Audyssey] electronic games

Hi Ken,
Unfortunately, a big trampoline won't work at all in the flat where I'm
staying, had to get a small one. You can jump quite high, when I put it down
to jump I have to be careful I'm not directly under lights!
Chris, I also had one of those balls, they were very fun! I'll never forget
I got it for Christmas one year.
Since I've also not been able to find a pogo stick, my question is, can all
people use them, what I mean is, adults can of course not use some things
because of weight. The thing that got me onto pogo sticks, is that I really
love jumping high distances, and I saw this thing on the internet about the
pogo stick world championships, where men were bouncing around on these
things, so I reckoned that, even though I'm an adult, I will also do
something crazy like that. By the way, their was also a thing about the
World Championship for mobile phone throwing in Finland (this guy won by
throwing his phone over 200 M, I think the phones were sponsored by Nokia),
and their was another thing about, in some town in America, the had a
competition of pumpkin throwing competition, but not people throwing them,
people invented catapults, cannons, and all weird machinery to 'chuck their
pumpkin the furtherist!'

Re: [Audyssey] Montezuma's Revenge patch released.

2006-07-08 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi, Phil.
The view map mode says nothing when you are in an empty area. So if you
pointed the arrow say down and it said sand, and then you went up it
would say the word nothing until it came to an item or the ceiling. At
which point it would say the word ceiling. If you continued going up you
might find a layer of dirt or sand on that ceiling, and more nothings,
another ceiling, etc
Where this feature is really nice if you are standing on a ladder per
say you could find out which way the ladder is running.
As for the words I did a pretty good job of trimming those words. Not
sure why it is behaving that way, but I don't want to trim the silences
to close to the word so this would take some experimentation.

Phil Vlasak wrote:
 Hi Tom,
I liked the patch and it works fine on my system.
I am not sure why in view mode on some levels it says nothing while on other
 levels it says sand.

I do have a comment about the distance to objects addition. Generally I try
to keep 0.05 seconds between words and it sounds like you left a little more
silence either before or after your words.
Sometimes I will leave 0.025 at the beginning and 0.025 at the end of a
 word.
And in my games, I try to keep 0.1 to 0.2 seconds between sentences.
Of course the amount of silence to have is subjective and it does help to
understand what is being said if there is more silence.
There can be times when you want more silence between words especially if
they are critical to be understood.
Like in a code sequence or password to get to another level.
Of course in an alpha these things need not be perfect.
 good job!
 Phil

Patch works great, but I've noticed two things. First, it doesn't appear the
sound issue with monsters is completely fixed. Monsters are still striking
when they should still be a few feet away. Second, I've noticed that you can
hear through walls. Or at least, I think that's what the problem is. After
the first warp for instance, you can hear a gem on your left. If you go that
direction, however, you'll run into a wall. This isn't the only example, but
it's the most obvious and easy to find. Hope that helps.

Re: [Audyssey] Montezuma's Revenge patch released.

2006-07-08 Thread Phil Vlasak
Hi Tom,
Good explanation of why I get the view saying nothing.
Except is there really nothing?
What about air?
Dust?
Cobwebs?
Or she could say,
Nitrogen, Oxygen, Carbon Dioxide and a few trace elements every time the
view is in the air.
Smiles,
Phil

Hi, Ron.
Yeah, the u key has been there since the first release. Also the f1 for
keyboard help which I think you missed while you were away last month.
My problem is documenting all these features and commands while they happen.

Oh, boy. Well, last I checked maps didn't have air and other gasses
labeled on them. Although, webs and stuff would be a cool addition for
rooms with the spiders.
Perhaps I will draw some in so you can see the giant spider webs.

Hi Tom

Certainly no worries about that. I can imagine the amount of little
things like a pause key that might happen.
BTW I'm sure the alpha will keep me occupied for awhile yet to come.

[Audyssey] New Audio Game - Haunted Factory

2006-07-08 Thread Kontakt - Mithril-Games
We invite you to acquaint with our new game.

In the Haunted Factory you play the role of a hard-working worker in
some factory. Your job is to put packets on an assembly line and group
them according to specific rules. This work is pretty easy at the
beginning, but you have to show good spatial memory, logics and quite a
lot of reflex.

In the full version you get:

- Many available game modes, which are discovered while gaining
experience in the game.

- The possibility to compete with family members or friends. Every mode
has its own independent score list.

- The possibility to compete with players from all over the world in all
modes thanks to the lists of high scores on our website.

- Two nicknames which you can use while signing in your scores on our
website.

- A whole bunch of funny stories told by a ghost, which will surely
make your game even more pleasant.

- Possibility to play your own music during the game (folder Music)

In the DEMO version of the Haunted Factory there are only the first two
modes available. The player can use the lists of the high scores and
send them on the website with the best scores.

2006-07-08 Thread Brandon Cole
Hmm. Alright then. It's not too much of a bother, it's just something to get
used to. And I guess hearing the sparkle sparkle of gems through walls isn't
so bad. I mean, the most that'll happen is that I'll try to smash down the
wall and completely fail. Haha

 Hi, Brandon.
As for monsters that is as good as it gets besides totally altering the
sound volume factor I have written for the game. That's as good as I can
get it in my technical know-how and not use Virtual 3D buffers.
DirectSound using true 3D wouldn't be able to handle more than 100
sounds at once, and that is overkill for a 2D game.
As for the sounds behind walls not much I can do about that one either
without some very complex function to switch sounds on and off when you
enter certain rooms. The way it works now sounds are switched on when
you get to a certain distance to it, and off when you are out of that
distance. It doesn't matter of course if you are on the other side of
 the wall.
Then, again in real life often times if you put your ear to a wall you
can hear radios, tv sets, etc in certain rooms so this might be a
realistic aspect depending on how thick the walls are.

 Brandon Cole wrote:
Patch works great, but I've noticed two things. First, it doesn't appear
 the
sound issue with monsters is completely fixed. Monsters are still
 striking
when they should still be a few feet away. Second, I've noticed that you
 can
hear through walls. Or at least, I think that's what the problem is.
 After
the first warp for instance, you can hear a gem on your left. If you go
 that
direction, however, you'll run into a wall. This isn't the only example,
 but
it's the most obvious and easy to find. Hope that helps.
 Sincerely,
 Brandon

[Audyssey] My thoughts on the MOnty Patch

2006-07-08 Thread Bryan Peterson

Hi Thomas and all,
Well, just downloaded the Monty Patch. I must say I'm very impressed. Two
weeks to fix all those bugs? Maybe it's just me but it seems pretty fast.
I like the new jumping feature (though it did take some getting used to
when you're trying to grab that gem to your left while you're climbing a
rope). The view mode was pretty cool as well. I did still notice one or two
spots where I'd die unexpectedly while jumping, but I'm beginning to wonder
about that. Of the two times this has happened to me since downloading and
installing the patch, neither of them occurred when there wasn't a monster
of one kind or another in the immediate area. The first time it happened
while I was grabbing the scroll piece and there was the rolling skull right
there. It stands to reason that while jumping, Angela hit the skull and it
must have been able to hit her in just the right way that it proved fatal.
The second time happened while I was jumping over the lava pits and the
spider was right there. Is it possible that monsters can knock you off edges
if they hit you just right? I know this can happen in games like
Castlevania, and it happened quite frequently in Zelda II: Adventure of
Link. Sometimes an Octorock or Moblin could hit you while you were jumping
over a lava pit and the attack would knock you backwards into the lava. I'm
wondering if we're seeing some of the same thing in Monty. Like I said, this
has only happened so far when there's been a monster right there, like right
by the scroll or the torch (although I haven't died while grabbing the torch
since I installed the patch). All in all it seems much more solid and I have
noticed a marked improvement in my ability to time my jumps over the snakes
and spiders, both thanks to the new monster detection and the better audio
processing. Makes me look forward to the rest of the game. And now that I
have my new Laptop with WinXP (although the new JAWS I'm installing on it
isn't here yet), I can download Monty on my own machine and see how well it
works. Apparently it has an 80-gig hard drive so hopefully there shouldn't
be too many problems with the performance.

It ain't pretty when the pretty leaves you with no place to go.
