You want something similar to the Sims Online, only in text form. Join the
club. I've been looking for something like that for eons. If you find
something of the sort, please let me know.
PS Miriani sucks. It's too easy to stagnate and not go anywhere as far as
points and rank and what not. I could only stomach so much salvaging and so
much missioning, out of comms is lame as heck, and well I have other things
to say but I shall not say them on list heh.
Just my not so humble opinion. Lol

Hello all. I don't know if anyone can help with this but, here's my
problem. I'm looking for a mud with a modern day feel that would allow me
to role play if I want. It would have vehicles that you can actually drive
where you could put in a destination and it would actually take time to
drive there. I'd like something where you could work and do odd jobs and
interact with people to accomplish those jobs. And I want something with
something of a different feel to it in a mud. Its really hard to explain
exactly what it is I want, but I'll know it when I find it. Godwars Ii is
different in its own way than most other muds out there, and achaea is also
different from most in the feel of it and how it functions. But, there just
isn't any easy way to find that elusive treasure of a game that really makes
you want to keep coming back for more and grow a character after time. I
know of miriani, but I'm looking for something a bit more um down to earth?
I just don't know how to put what i want in to words but I think if you've
had to really search for that game you just like out of the load of games
out there, you'll know kind of what I mean. Thanks much, Scott

Speaking of games with different feel to them, I have recently stumbled

Namely, they pregenerate them with backgrounds, relationships, skills, etc.
You RP them and put your own spin on them. I don't know how appealing this

[Audyssey] Modern Command

2007-06-19 Thread Orin
Hi all,

Me and a friend have been beta testing this mud that has been running
for 2 years now however has been absent from coding and things for a
long time.

It's starting up again, and it's going in beta in September. At least
what's what they hope. Okay, it sucks that you don't get to drive
around, but you do get to walk, it sucks that you don't get all these
things that a civillian gets, well that's because you're not a
cevillion. you're a commander of a real world country.

Say that again? Real, world, country. Complete with military options.
You can command things such as Poland, Ireland, well now you can't
because I'm commanding it, North and South America anything from those,
you'll be able to command the US I think soon.

There still isn't any of the muds that we actually want. The night (TNC)
is, but I personally hate emoting every action.

Yes, I wish GWSE would come back too. Since I know how to roleplay
better i could probably serve useful, and it sucks that when it was open
people were being stupid with me hacking my ships and not teling me how
to properly protect it.

Hi,
Actually, the dxwebsetup on my site is a couple of months out of date. I
will be updating that link prier to the release of Monty beta 1, and for
that reason I recommend grabbing dxwebsetup for the moment from
http://www.microsoft.com/directx
which is the main DirectX site.

Yeah, that's it. Rail Racer requires tha latest June update for Directx

You can download the dxwebsetup.exe utility which will download and
install the latest available version of DX 9.0C for you from Thomas's
website at http://www.usagames.us, then the download center link, then
system requirements, Download Microsoft Directx 9.0C web setup. Or you can
download a full redistributable package of the latest update directly from
 Che's site.
 Hope this helps,

[Audyssey] Computer Game Banned

2007-06-19 Thread Samuel Wilkins
Hello, I have found an interesting article on the BBC News page which I thought
some people might be interested in. I am sorry if this is off topic.

British censors have banned a violent video game from the UK for the first time
in
a decade.
The video game Manhunt 2 was banned for its unrelenting focus on stalking and
brutal
slaying, the British Board of Film Classification said.
It means the Manhunt sequel cannot be legally supplied anywhere in the UK.
The parents of a Leicester schoolboy who blamed the original game for the murder
of their 14-year-old son said they were absolutely elated.
There is sustained and cumulative casual sadism in the way in which these
killings
are committed
BBFC director David Cooke
The original Manhunt game was given an 18 classification in 2003.
Manhunt 2, for PS2 and Nintendo Wii consoles, is made by Rockstar Games.
The company has six weeks to submit an appeal.
The last game to be refused classification was Carmageddon in 1997.
David Cooke, director of the BBFC, said: Manhunt 2 is distinguishable from
recent
high-end video games by its unremitting bleakness and callousness of tone.
There is sustained and cumulative casual sadism in the way in which these
killings
are committed, and encouraged, in the game.
'Morally irresponsible'
The original Manhunt game caused huge controversy and was blamed for the murder
of
Stefan Pakeerah.
The boy was stabbed and beaten to death in Leicester in February 2004.
Stefan Pakeerah
Stefan Pakeerah was murdered in 2004
His parents believe the killer, Warren LeBlanc, 17, was inspired by the game.
Stefan's mother, Giselle Pakeerah, had condemned the sequel, branding the gaming
industry morally irresponsible.
We have been campaigning against these games for a long time and the BBFC made
the
right decision, she said.
Police said robbery was the motive behind the attack on Stefan in Stokes Wood
Park
on 26 February 2004 - and not the video game blamed by Stefan's parents.
Manhunt's maker Rockstar North has always insisted its games are geared towards
mature
audiences and are marketed responsibly.
Leicester MP Keith Vaz, who campaigned with the Pakeerahs against the original
version
of Manhunt, praised the decision to ban Manhunt 2.
He said: This is an excellent decision by the British Board of Film
Classification
showing that game publishers cannot expect to get interactive games where
players
take the part of killers engaged in 'casual sadism' and murder.

Miriani is not a modern day mud it's scifi. Crummy scifi, but scifi
nonetheless. Miriani sucks because basically the only things to do to get
points are salvage until your ears bleed from listening to salvaging
messages over and over and over ad nauseum, or do combat missions. Both
things get very very boring after awhile. Not to mention other things which

unlike star conquest, out of comms on miriani, at least the last time I

be fair to the... Er, staff of miriani, things could have changed, but I
highly doubt they have.

Re: [Audyssey] arcade games

2007-06-19 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Nicol,
Actually Packman is an arcade game, but Sarah is not. Sarah is
classified as a FPS, First Person Shooter, which is different.
The reason games like Packman, Asteroids, etc got to be known as arcade
games is that they were made available in arcades in the 1980's.
According to any English dictionary an arcade is a covered passageway
with shops and stores along both sides. In short that describes what we
commonly call shopping malls in the USA. However, the old English name
for that kind of setup is an arcade.
Anyway, in major cities in the USA most shopping malls offered a store
area or a specialised area where they hosted wall to wall video gaming
machines featuring Packman, Double Dragon, Asteroids, Ninja Turtles,
etc. When they were popular you could walk in to this area in the mall
,designated the arcade, with a pocket full of quarters and start
dropping coins in the game machines.
However, in time with the games being converted to home consoles like
the NES, Sega, Play Station, etc game arcades fell out of fassion, and
arcades once sponcering wall to wall gaming machines became game stores
with wall to wall boxes of the latest game releases, or became video
game rentals.

[Audyssey] a suggestion for jim's bop it game

HI jim
I was listening to raul's review of the hand held bop it games and I thought
how about making your bop it games just like the hand held games? Currently
your bop it game only has bop it, twist it and pull it. the hand held games
also has spin it and flick it. So keep the left and right arrows for twist
it and pull it and then make the down arrow spin it and the up arrow flick
it and enter bop it. I like your bop it game, Just a suggestion.
Btw, does anyone know if these hand held bop it games are available in
south africa?

Re: [Audyssey] a suggestion for jim's bop it game

2007-06-19 Thread nicol
Yippy, yippy
It went through!
Now I know where the problem lies. Whenever I create a contact in Microsoft
outlook with the list's address in it, it interferes with mail man, so it
seems like I have to write the address manually whenever I want to post to
the gamers list, I can't make use of the address book.
I have deleted the contact from my address book and I have sent this message
to the list by manually entering [EMAIL PROTECTED];.org in the to:| field and
the message came through.
I can't understand this! I entered the address gamers@audyssey.org in the
dialogue where I created a new contact.
As long as that contact with the list's address was in my address book, no
message I sent went through, that's why only replies to a message I sent
went through, because I replied by using control+r not by using the address
from my address book.
So for some weird reason, information about my address book is sent along
with the message and mail man deletes the message as a result of that.

Miriani is not a modern day mud it's scifi. Crummy scifi, but scifi

Okay all:
I've hearing constent emails and have one question? Why are we answering the
same questions about rail racer? Hear it is for the umteenth time. You guys
who can't get the demo running go get direct x updates. Search on microsoft

thank you and can people start looking at the logs next time please? I'm not
trying to take over the mods position, but this is getting annoying.

You could probably increase your gear ratio even to 1. With the
supercharger, you should accelerate rather quickly. Now, it's a deal to
 bear
art on the pro level even on the class 1 tracks without the supercharger.
And with the mouse when you're not used to it. ;)
Just try increasing the ratio gradually. You might not perhaps accelerate
with 0.6 as with 1, but the top speed will increase a great deal.
It's also great to use nitro when you loose speed in the loops (in fact
right at the beginning of a loop) or when there's a long section where
you
can go straight ahead without any obstacles and gather speed. Be careful
though, as nitro burns out a load of additional fuel.

[Audyssey] rail racerjumpjets

2007-06-19 Thread Everett Elam
Lo all,
First I'd like to give Che a big well done. This game is gonna rock once
everyone jumps on tomorrow. If I weren't about to go colleging I'd give Che
much more than $33, but such is life *smile*
However, the only speech synth I have available is that stupid narrator (ms sam
or w/e) and as you say in your tutorial, you need to speed things up for
faster feedback. I've got a realspeek cd here, but is there any other way we
could have which tells us how high the jump is? That's probably one of my
favorite parts, but it's one of the scariest too. That bonus demo track is much
harder than the demo track, and as a result I have to speed sam up and I can't
tell when it's saying 60 or 20, *crash!*
I lve the croud effects as you pass by and are about to jump, but maybe
sometimes when you crash you could have people booing, laughing etc? The game
is so authentic I'm always expecting to hear catcalls and stuff anyway. This
has so much potential it's crazy. In later versions we should have built in
weapons so we can shoot one another while racing, lay traps, a lot like that
old twisted metal game for ps1.
Love it! Can't wait to see your rpg! You r0k! Make sure that if theres voice
acting in it that it's as good as the guy who does the menues for rr. Oh yeah
and btw, when you take damage does it just slow you down, alter your turns or
what? I've noticed that even when i'm at 75 or 80% and the race is ver the next
time seems fine. I think that when your damaged strange things should happen.
Jets should malfunction or throw you too high, your racer should behave
irraticly when going aroun curves and when you hit unrealistic percentages you
should just break down causing you to forfit. And the starting sound of the
racer should be different for different amounts of damage too.
And that's my two cents! Great game!

Re: [Audyssey] Rale racer impressions

2007-06-19 Thread Everett Elam
Hey dark!
For practice I usually put it on the easaiest dif level and go to work. It's
a good time to practice judging your jumps, how tite you can take curves,
etc. YOu probably already knew this *smile*, just letting you know that if
you've beate pro, it's almost impossible to get beaten by art on easy. Man
is the sound in this game not awesome? Everything is so clear and in it's
place! When did you beat pro?

Subject: [Audyssey] Rale racer impressions

 Well.

I've now played rale racer for a good few races, fed art my dust at Rale
racer pro level, (the bonus track is one nasty piece of work), and so can
probably give an honest opinion about the game.

Firstly, I must admit racing games aren't my favourite genre, I've been
interested in the developement of rale racer because it seemed to involve
a lot of new things that hadn't been tried before in audio games, but I
wasn't certain whether the game would appeal to me or not, but it
certainly does! I love the way everything can be done intuatively just
using the sfx without too much calculating numbers. a great job there,
especially given the complexity of the game.

One thing though, at the start of the game I did find that things took a
bit of getting used to. The tutorials are extremely good, but obviously
hereing someone else do something and doing it yourself are slightly
different things. Also, I noticed that despite me getting used to the
original demo track, the bonus track is stil fairly hard, - especially
 at first.

therefore, i wondered if you'd considdered adding a practice option, where
people could race the various tracks without interference from Art,
neither winning nor losing money. This would let first time players get
accustomed to things, and make sure that new tracks didn't always equal
losses (it might also be good for trying out the mouse control).

I also like the customization aspects, particularly as regards gear ratio
changing, - usually as I understand in driving games the differences
in top speed, acceleration and handling are controled by variation in car
types, but having them set by the player adds a good deal of stratogy to
 the game.

the nitros and gravity puller are also nice additions, - it was using
a nitro that let me do for art at Pro level, with longer tracks, I'll also
be interested to see how fuel management figures into the equation.

Perhaps in a future version you might also considder adding atmospheric
sounds for the various tracks to emphasise the theme and location, just to
add a bit of realism and variety to the soundscape. You could for example
have an alpine track with snow and wind sfx in the background, with the
track containing many sharp curves and jumps, - a long desert themed
track with some long streights, - or even some tracks from the Uk with
appropriate sounds of driving rain (smile!). If this is something that
would be a pest to program I appologise, it just struck me as something
that might add to the feeling of the game.

finally, i have a question. thus far I've been playing the game on
keyboard (and fun it is). I did try the mouse but I found it rather
difficult to keep up a constant accelleration, sinse when the mouse got to
the back of my desk and I had to pick it up and move it I'd lose a lot of
 speed, -- any suggestions?

all in all it's a great game, and I'll look forward to getting the full
 version.

appologies for the long and rambling mail.

 Beware the Grue!

Hello all. I found a knew mud that I think people will like. The point
 of
it is elegantly simple since its pure pk, but its the way in which you can
go about it that's fun. Also, there isn't a lot of ASCII junk to throw
 off
our screen readers either. Its wonderful. Don't let the lack of players
discourage you. The occasional npc can make your life quite hard as a
newbie. I found this thing at 2:00 in the morning yesterday when I
 couldn't
sleep. Go figure. The information is below. This might cause your jfw
 to
hang, if so read by hand. Sorry.

This is not your typical Mud. Certainly not your typical DikuMUD. You see,
GZ (as the natives call it) doesn't bother with all that hack-n-slash,
 roll
or role playing, magic, skills, levels, and classes DD crap. Hell,
 there's
not even the traditional concept of zones and areas. You see, we're pure,
unadulterated, unapologetic PK. Now, I know what you're thinking: if
 there's
no magic, no skills, no levels, no classes, no zones... What is there?
 Guns.
And explosives. And tanks. And one helluva' adrenaline rush. We're not
masking our violent tendencies and immature behavior behind Grokthar the
Level 23 Barbarian. We're bringing it right to the forefront. We're rude,
we're crude, and we'll definitely try to put a bullet in you. As you start
out in the game, you're going to start noticing that things are
 drastically
different from what you've come to expect from Muds. Some of the concepts
 are the same, some of the commands are familiar, some basic ideas remain;
these similarities will only compound the differences into a potentially
confusing and frustrating first play experience. There's a significant
learning curve: the best way to get over it is by playing and not getting
frustrated. Still, it'd help to have a more gentle introduction than what
most of our players will want to give you...

 The connection information is
 planetmud.net

Now I will tell you that at this time, I think vehicles is getting a
 rewrite
so I don't yet know what else is being re done, but its still quite
 possible
to have fun with out them. Make sure you read the help hints, help tips,
help faq, and help tactic files. It makes life a bit easier. I hope to
 see
you all around for some serious killing. I'm marhan in game. If you want
to talk to me more about this game you can skype me with
fabian754 or I'll be in game off and on.

 Take care,
 Scott
