 Hi Thomas,

I never got to play any of those games. I just made Puppy1 up as I went.

Forget if I mentioned this before or not. You know it is Puppy1 because
it is an aerial dog fight game and because my Dad's life long hobby was
building and flying model airplanes. He got so that he was designing and
building them from scratch rather than from a kit. Puppy1 and Puppy2 were
biplanes, Puppy3 was a single wing plane.

 Hi Jim,
Cool. So far Puppy1 sort of reminds me of the old Atari World War II

planes. I haven't quite got the hang of it yet, but I think I'll be
postponing my next Baseball game so I can practice splashing a few enemy
 fighters. Grin

Hi Charles,

Yeah, it is mostly because it is an aerial dog fight game, but because of the
planes that my Dad built I thought that Puppy1 was especially fitting. But no,
I think that it will just be Puppy1 version 2 etc. Otherwise you would have
Puppy1, Puppy2 etc listed in the Kitchensinc game menu program. grin

Re: [Audyssey] Puppy1

2008-07-01 Thread Jim Kitchen
Hi Phil,

Thank you very much.

I'm not sure about the running out of fuel. That way you would not ever have a
chance to come back to get the enemy, but I will definitely put in a check to
stop the error.

I also don't know about the feet and degrees. The math for this game is not
like a flight simulator. You start out at 0, 0, 1000 and the enemies start out
at random places such as -800, 2400, 1200 and all of the planes just move and
are adjusted depending on what you do with the arrow keys. And since the
enemies are constantly moving such as towards or away from you it would not
give you an exact look at how much the arrow key is actually doing.

BTW none of my games have real math with real physics, it is just Jim's math.
grin

- Original Message -
Hi Jim,
Great game!
I have two suggestions for your update.
First, If you get too far away from the enemy, thus the numbers getting too
large, have the game say you are running out of fuel and then you crash
before you get the run time error.
Second, for easy difficulty, I would like to hear when hitting the right
control key,
enemy 2000 feet below, and 10 degrees to the right rather than below and
right.
This way the beginner will be able to see how much hitting an arrow key does
to your relative position.
Thanks,
Phil

Re: [Audyssey] Puppy1

2008-07-01 Thread Jim Kitchen
Hi Thomas,

My Dad built and flew all kinds of model planes from biplanes to modern ones.
I guess long long ago he even did fly some of the control line ones, but they
were always the radio control gas powered ones for as long as I can remember.

To tell you the truth in my game I can not even tell you what kind of planes
they are. Your plane for instance, I got the engine sound from the Microsoft
Flight Simulator Version 5 dos program. But it was a single prop plane and I
turned it into a twin engine plane. The sputter and spin down plane is a
Fokker. The first enemy might be as well, but it might be a biplane. I forget
what the second enemy is. The third I believe is more of a heavy bomber plane
type. I really really wanted to get a p51 in the game, but none of the sound
files of them that I have would allow me to cut a long enough piece that would
sound right as it was looped.

I did have plans to have one level where the enemy would have a tail gunner.
Don't know, might still try to put that in, but it wouldn't really fit in with
the code of the current levels.

Yeah you know like I said Puppy1 is not like a flight simulator program, but
more just a simple dog fight shooter type game. That is why I had the take off

Re: [Audyssey] Puppy 1

2008-07-01 Thread Karl
Hi,
I think you could get around the distortion problem by not decreasing the
wind volume when the plane is farther away. What I mean is, when a plane is
near the maximum range, the wind is just about inaudible, especially on the
higher difficulties. If you simply don't have the wind get as soft, that
will fix some of the problem.

 Hi Liam,

I can try to raise the volume of the wind wave file itself and hopefully
it will not get too distorted. It is already played at maximum volume by
the time that you are about to over take the enemy. In the mean time
using the right control key might help.

2008-07-01 Thread Phil Vlasak
Hi Jim,
For the distance number getting too large, you could put a check and if it
is getting near to the crashing number, then flip your plain's direction
around so the number gets smaller.

I can understand that no numbers is preferable.
How about instead of ,
below, and right,
you have the game say,
below but closer, and right, but closer,
if you are closer in both x and y axes than the last time you hit the
control right arrow.
or,
below but further, and right but further.
or
below but closer and right but further, if you are closer in one axes.
You could still have below, and right, if you have not changed
significantly.
You would need to save the last x and y numbers and have the game compare
them with the current set.
Still a great game.

 Hi Phil,

 Thank you very much.

I'm not sure about the running out of fuel. That way you would not ever
have a chance to come back to get the enemy, but I will definitely put in
a check to stop the error.

I also don't know about the feet and degrees. The math for this game is
not like a flight simulator. You start out at 0, 0, 1000 and the enemies
start out at random places such as -800, 2400, 1200 and all of the planes
just move and are adjusted depending on what you do with the arrow keys.
And since the enemies are constantly moving such as towards or away from
you it would not give you an exact look at how much the arrow key is
 actually doing.

BTW none of my games have real math with real physics, it is just Jim's
 math. grin

What about having Sapi say 0 0 as soon as you are on target? That way it

Hi Lisa,
Yes, using headphones makes the game a lot easier to play. I tried it on
my laptop just on the built in speakers, and I couldn't figure out where
the enemy planes were. The minute I attached a set of stereo headphones
I went from 0 kills to 10 kills. So at least for me the headphones
helped out a lot.

[Audyssey] Puppy1 keyboard Issues

2008-07-01 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Jim,
I am having a couple of keyboard issues with Puppy1 i would like to ask
you about. Perhaps you can address them in a future update of the game.
the first one is about the menus. While in the menus pressing down arrow
or up arrow scrolls too rapidly. Instead of moving to the next item it
will often scroll 2 or 3 menu choices at a time. I believe you mentioned
before you have switched to DirectInput for keyboard handling. In that
case the menu keyboard input for the menus should be looking for
keyboard releases and not key presses. If youcheck for a key release
rather than a key press in menus the menu item won't scroll to the next
item until the up or down arrow is released.
The second one is just a laptop vs desktop keyboard layout issue. As the
game currently exists you need to shoot with the left control key and
fire with the right control key. that is fine for desktops and laptops
with a full sized keyboard, but not all laptops come with two control
keys. I have owned two laptops with a left control key only, and in that
case the gamer could fire but not get information on enemy positions.
Perhaps you could add an extra information key to the game to address
this issue with laptops?
Cheers.

Hi Jim,
Actually, I believe I have some high quality P-51 Mustang engine sounds
at home you would be welcome to if you want them. I should have a
standard P-51 loop since I have been collecting World War II sound
effects for a possible WW II combat simulation game over the Pacific.
Cheers.

My Dad built and flew all kinds of model planes from biplanes to modern ones.
I guess long long ago he even did fly some of the control line ones, but
they were always the radio control gas powered ones for as long as I can
 remember.

forget what the second enemy is. The third I believe is more of a heavy
bomber plane type. I really really wanted to get a p51 in the game, but none
of the sound files of them that I have would allow me to cut a long enough
piece that would sound right as it was looped.

I did have plans to have one level where the enemy would have a tail gunner.
Don't know, might still try to put that in, but it wouldn't really fit in
with the code of the current levels.

[Audyssey] problem with audio quake server

2008-07-01 Thread alex wallis
Hi list.
Recently me and a group of friends have taken to playing audio quake on a
server run by one of us. We are running the jedi quake 4.2 mod.
However whenever anyone joins the game, it always complains about them running
non standard models, and gives a hole host of other warnings. Also, on one map
for some reason we get no crosshair sounds meaning we have to skip it.

Also, it just seems like there aren't a lot of maps with the 4.2 mod.
Does anyone no how to fix the errors?

Also, is jedi quake mod 4.2 supposed to be a new version of the mod? or can we
have multiple versions installed such as 4.1 etc. as the main site where i
downloaded the 4.2 mod seems to have a lot of files for earlier versions on it.

Re: [Audyssey] Puppy1 keyboard Issues

2008-07-01 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Charles,
The fire key isn't the problem. One of my laptops has the left control
for firing, but it does not have the right control key which is used for
checking the enemy fighter's position.
Fortunately, the laptop I have with me currently has both control keys
so it isn't currently a major concern, but could be an issue if I wanted
to put Puppy1 on my other notebook computer.
Idealy Jim could use left an right shift as backup keys since every
laptop I have owned has both shift keys since it is the most commonly
used modifier key on the keyboard. Though, space would work for an
alternate info key as well.

Charles Rivard wrote:
Maybe the space bar could be the fire key? Every keyboard has one. Just a
 thought.

That's how I play all my games, mainly to hear what's going on better but
also because there's two others besides me in the same room using computers
in the same room! I just have to get used to using the down arrow to go up
and the up arrow to go down on this game, but it's still a fun
game. Thanks to Jim for coming up with another one for us!

I can try to raise the volume of the wind wave file itself and hopefully
it will not get too distorted. It is already played at maximum volume by
the time that you are about to over take the enemy. In the mean time
using the right control key might help.

Re: [Audyssey] Puppy1 keyboard Issues

2008-07-01 Thread shaun everiss
Yeah I noticed the laptop issue.
I thought the issue was my system, but didn't mention it.
At 02:51 a.m. 2/07/2008, you wrote:
Hi Jim,
I am having a couple of keyboard issues with Puppy1 i would like to ask
Cheers.

Hi all

I got my psp today. I've done a bit of browsing and, I couldn't believe
it, however there are user manuals down at http://www.playstationc.om

Under the psp section. They're not in pdf and are, in fact online. Not
to mention, the menu items go in order, so you can memorize it pretty
easily. I also got burnout legends and tekken dark reserection, so there
will be more info to come as time goes on. I'm just fooling around with
the settings as we speak. I really like the sound qualtiy from these
speakers- nothing wrong with it.

laters, just thought I'd let you all know

Have a good day from Tyler C. Wood!

[Audyssey] sapi issues

2008-07-01 Thread Damien Sadler
Hi.
I have some SAPI5 issues on my computer because some of the SAPI5 voices
wouldn't uninstall when I tried to uninstall them properly, so I deleted their
folders.
I tried using the DelUserLex.exe app on Jim Kitchen's website but that now
seems to have prevented the use of all SAPI5 voices installed on my system.
What should I do to fix this?
Thanks.
Regards,
Damien

2008-07-01 Thread Shadow Dragon
I believe there's a walkthrough up on the ifarchive site. The harry potter
game, Harry Potter and the legend of the dragon if I'm not mistaken, puts
you in the role of a student and basically the objective of the game is to
go through the school, learn spells, practice said spells, advance the plot
and eventually slay the dragon. it can be found on the ifarchive.

Re: [Audyssey] psp

2008-07-01 Thread constantine (on laptop)
I sure am having fun. Just a general question- what do you think about the
display? On the gameboy advanced sp, when the light was on, I could tell.
When it wasn't, I could (I have a bit of light perception in my right eye).
On the psp, however, I can't tell how bright I'm making it. I tried making
it as dim as possible, but then if I want sited friends to play it, they'll
need it a bit brighter. How many brightness settings does it have? Maybe
I'll try it in a totally dark room, as I can't see the light at all.
I love the organomic design though! You can feel the stylishness of the
thing. Its just something you want to pick up in your hand and it fits in
there like an ipod. Sleek, black and beautiful. Its something you'll want to
pick up and use, but once you pick it up you'll protect it to your death,
and if any finger print creeps onto its surface, out comes the cloth, at
least for me, if someone tells you, hey there bro, you got a coupla finger
prints on it. Its like your ipod, your jewlery. Something you love but don't
want to harm in any way. It just feels so right when you play it. Sorry I'm
ranting but I absolutely love it. People can see it, they think wow, that's
nice. But I don't think anybody can ever say that they've felt something and
they could tell it was stylish. The finish on it is glossy and looks great
with the color, black, apparently. The only problem is though, with the
slimness comes, most likely, fragilities. I'm treating this thing with
reverence. Nobody touches it but me, and nothing gets on it, I got an
aluminum case ((A place for everything, everything in its place. Yo ho ho.)
I've got a cleaning cloth, earbudds, an extra battery which I haven't opened
yet, a car adapter and the power cord. Now, this power cord. I hate it. I
hate the fact it has two peaces, why couldn't they have just made it into
one peace, like the car adapter? Oh well, that's my only real complaint. I
love the aluminum case- it feels very, very sturdy. I doubt anyone stepping
on it would do any harm (Of course I'm not about to try it, but its ten
times better than just a regular psp pouch when your transporting it).

Some other things I'm seeing in the future are those little tiny buttons
might stick, or the l and r buttons seem very clicky. I can't explain it any
better, they feel clicky. Other than that, the analogue nub takes getting
used to, but other than that it feels well balanced. I wish it vibrated,
though! I loved the ps2 for doing that. I also hate the way the memory stick
comes out- there's a cover on rubber rails. I could see that coming off if
someone wasn't careful. The power switch is nifty, though, I especially like
the standby mode, that sure helps a lot. I can just hit pause, hit the
switch forward once and bang. No saying hey, wait for me, I gotta turn this
thing off. And no load times to get the game started again.

I wish there was a program out there, on the pc, that told you how many
hours or percent left of the psp's battery. I wonder if someone could make
one of those?

That's about all I have to say on this matter, those are my observations, or
maybe my rant, so far.

reported though, so no need to send off the ones you get--they're being
worked on. Have fun!

hi claudio,
the sim is called three-d velosity, and it's still in development. there are
still some bugs. there is, however a demo, that can be obtained from
http://www.bpcprograms.com/
the game is cool and i recomend it.
you need .net framework and managed direct x 9.0 c libraries to run the game
successfully.
to be honest i like to do crazy things like simply crash for no reason. the
scenes when you crash rock!
i also like the moment when you take off. as i said the game is cool.
great job munawar!

By the end of the week, Judgment day 1.2 will be released at
 www.l-works.net
so I thought for this episode of sunday night gaming, we'd do something a
tad different. The show is more or less a two hours. using an empty
trophy file, how many trophies can I collect in two hours. All week you
can submit guesses to [EMAIL PROTECTED] here's the rules.
 1. you may only submit one guess to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Please include
 your
name, email address, and a number between 0 and 40.
 2. the guess must be a number, so no aproximations are allowed.
 3. all trophies will be earned fair and square using the release copy of
 judgment day 1.2.
 4. trophies involving special times and days won't be used.
 5. the person who guesses the closest with out going over will earn a
 free
copy of Judgment day 1.2 from www.l-works.net. In case they already own
 a
copy, they can either choose to give their prize to a friend, choose
another current title, or earn an upcoming LWorks title.
 6. contestants do not need to be present to win, but all guesses must be
submitted before 8 PM Eastern standard time on July 6th to be valid.
 7. have fun. that's a rule.

The show starts at 8 PM sharp on sunday July 6th at www.jjrn.net

Re: [Audyssey] a don't miss sunday night gaming show.

2008-07-01 Thread Liam Erven
not sure. it's going to vary.
could be baseball one week, could be two hours of kitchensinc monopoly.
If I play baseball every week, it'll get boring super fast. At least, to me
it would.
it's also up to what people find interesting.

So basically what you're doing is playing JD this week, and the weeks
 before and after it's Baseball?

wellf or those who miss it, I'll see about posting an archive.
I gotta find out if current licensing regulations with the station
 allow me
 to do that or not.
Either way, I'm hoping it'll be a blast. And it would be fun to do
 more of
 these too.

By the end of the week, Judgment day 1.2 will be released at
 www.l-works.net
so I thought for this episode of sunday night gaming, we'd do
 something a
tad different. The show is more or less a two hours. using an
 empty
trophy file, how many trophies can I collect in two hours. All
 week you
can submit guesses to [EMAIL PROTECTED] here's the rules.
 1. you may only submit one guess to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Please
 include
 your
name, email address, and a number between 0 and 40.
 2. the guess must be a number, so no aproximations are allowed.
 3. all trophies will be earned fair and square using the release
 copy of
 judgment day 1.2.
 4. trophies involving special times and days won't be used.
 5. the person who guesses the closest with out going over will
 earn a
 free
copy of Judgment day 1.2 from www.l-works.net. In case they
 already own
 a
copy, they can either choose to give their prize to a friend, choose
another current title, or earn an upcoming LWorks title.
 6. contestants do not need to be present to win, but all guesses
 must be
submitted before 8 PM Eastern standard time on July 6th to be valid.
 7. have fun. that's a rule.

The show starts at 8 PM sharp on sunday July 6th at www.jjrn.net
