Re: [Audyssey] Kingdom of Loathing discussion.

2008-07-03 Thread Shadow Dragon
The level 12 quest I'd have to agree, its rather tedius and annoying. But
the level 11 quest is still my favorite quest in the game, just because of
the originality of the puzzles and how its a parody on almost every RPG ever
made to date. But yeah, I agree, ascending is kind of annoying, especially
since its really tough for us to do the hedge maze without wasting a lot of
turns getting mazes. The naughty sorceress challenges are kind of a pain too
since NS13, they added a lot more to the challenges.

[Audyssey] judgment day 1.2 is here

2008-07-03 Thread Liam Erven
You can now download the latest version of Judgment day from www.l-works.net

it is the year 2015, and the world is at war. This war has been the most
catastrophic to humanity. Two powers are fighting for control. The allies and a
group of nations calling themselves The Supreme Evil. Little is known about
this group and it's motives, but one thing is clear. This group has advanced
weaponry. Over several months, the Allies have been slowly destroyed by strange
and lethal weaponry. The commander of the Supreme Evil known as Supreme
Commander Ather has quickly dispatched several countrys in the span of a few
months. In one last effort to retain any hope, the allies have gathered all
their forces in one area. A defensive station was built, and plans were made to
finally lay the Supreme evil to rest. However, this task may prove to be
harder than one thinks. and this is where you come in. Your job is to fend off
the group of The Supreme Evil's forces, as well as deal With supreme Commander
Ather.

You command the only allied defensive post left. Your job is to fend off the
enemies. Compared to the Supreme evil, your weapons are primative. However,
they can be effective. You are given a machine gun with unlimitted shells, a
supply of rockets, and a small supply of sky clearing nukes. Your crew will
do there best to keep the base undamaged. If there's no damage, they may even
find time to replentish your nukes and rockets if you're running low.

The version has a host of updated features, so feel free to install it and give
it a try. The demo now consists of more levels, plus you'll get a sample of
the first two bonus games.

happy gaming:

1. How would I set something up so that when my health falls below a certain

below 1000h my character will automatically sip from his health vial.
Thanks,

Hi

Well, this here aluminum case was really a bargin, because it came with a
lighter adapter, earbudds, and cleaning cloth, not to mention 6 game cases.
Everythings compartmentalized, so you don't need to worry about things
banging around. It was all tolled about 24 bucks, and that's saying
something since each item would probably have costed you at least 20 bucks,
so you get 5 things for the price of 1, oh yeah and it came with a screen
protector- which I'm using. I don't take the memory stick out iether,
because that case also came with a USB/power cord for the psp (one end has
the plug to plug into the computer, while the other end is rather neat. It
has a USB plug for the PSP, which you can charge it with, but it takes more
time, or there's just a regular power plug which charges it like normal, but

from your computers power! I thought that was neat, and I'll be using this
with the pac mate. Oh, I also recommend getting a good pair of headphones -
I'm currently using sony noise-canceling ones and I absolutely love them for

gaming. Everythings crisp and clear, and they're good for when your in a
very loud area- I find the volume doesn't go high enough to mask that, but
who cares? Those speakers aren't meant for that. By the way, I just finished

updating mine, because the manual and my psp's menu spoke differently- mine
was a few firmwares out of date.

 Hey Tyler.

I don't have any light perception any longer so I cannot comment on the
display although my nephew, the one I have mentioned before who is a big
gamer, says it's the best looking display he's seen on a handheld. I
believe there are four brightness levels but I am not positive on that.

I agree with you on all points that you mention, the unit really does
have a nice design that is very pleasant and easy to handle and work
with. I keep a spare cleaning cloth in my carrying case and am forever
taking it out and wiping the unit down lol. Before I will let anyone
play on it, am I am very picky who I will allow to, I ask them if their
 hands are reasonably clean.

That case sounds really cool, all I have is the standard psp case and
while it seems quite sturdy and well padded enough to protect the unit
if you are reasonably careful with it which I am, I very well may check
out that aluminum case if it isn't ridiculously expensive. The standard
case is really small and has no room for the adapters and such which is
kind of a drag. So if you can tell me where to look for that I'd
 appreciate it.

I am used to that sort of power plug, a lot of things use them so I
don't really mind it. I see what you are saying about that little cover
deal on the memory stick slot fortunately I don't take it out very often
at all. As for the buttons sticking and so forth, that is the main
reason to make sure your hands are clean when playing that is the best
way to keep this from eventually happening.

Thanks for the update keep us posted on your progress. Sorry I've not
been around to chat on skype, have been pretty busy lately.

 Best regards,

 Tom

Re: [Audyssey] Puppy 1

2008-07-03 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi,
Right. Specifically, the file that is missing is DX8VB.dll. Though, I
have been told by Windows 7 insiders that Windows 7 will have to have a
complete VB 6 runtime environment installed manually in order to support
VB 6 apps under Windows 7 since Microsoft has now officially scrapped
Visual Basic 6 and earlier as a core Windows technology. it should be
interesting to test out some of these older accessible games on Windows
7 as soon as the MSDN betas are released.
Not only is VB 6 do to be scrapped, but the XNA Framework is suppose to
replace DirectX as the core gaming technology in the next couple of years.

Hi,
You can buy a PSP anywhere Play Station stuff is sold.
As far as the menus go you have to memorise those. If you have a poor
memory what you can do is create some braille menu sheets and read those
as you move through the menus. That way you can compare where you are by
the menu sounds and something writtendown.

Hi Michael,
It has been my experience if you want to Play PSP and PS2 games it
involves quite a bit of memorisation. Playing sighted games like that
isn't impossible, but not instantly accessible. Takes a lot of trial and
error, or a nice walkthrough to tell you where everything is. Fighting
games are more or less accessible because the focus is on hand to hand
combat.
For example, if you can memorise the menus, how to do certain moves, and
identify what sounds means what then you can do pretty well in the WWE
Smackdown VS Raw games. I'm not real good at it myself, but I have heard
Bryan play it on his web site so I have a good idea of what is possible
if you have the patients to sit down and play with the game.

Re: [Audyssey] Puppy1 keyboard Issues

2008-07-03 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Jim,
Smile. Yes, I know how DirectInput polls for keyboard input. I guess I
should have been more specific what I meant.
In my games how I handle this problem with DirectX skipping menu items
or polling too fast is I trap the keyboard states in a Boolean array.
If the array reports that the key is already being held down my input
timer ignores the key. However, if the array shows the key is not down
it will perform the action once and ignores future requests until the
key is released and pressed again. Here is a little VB 2008 sample to
show you what I mean.

' Poll keyboard state.
key = keyboard.GetCurrentKeyboardState()

' Down arrow was pressed.
If key[Key.Down] And keys]VK_Down] = False Then
keys[VK_Down] = True
MenuDown()
End If

' Down arrow is not being held down
' so release it in the keys array.
Else
keys[VK_Down] = False
End

' Up arrow was pressed.
If key.[Key.Up] And keys[VK_Up] = False Then
MenuUp()
End If

' Up arrow is not being held down
' so release it in the keys array.
Else
keys[VK_Up] = False
End

As a result of the code above if the keys array returns true the if
statement will skip the keyboard action until the keys array returns
false. Otherwise it will wait until the key in question is not being
held down, and then take action on the next key press.
Hope that helps.

Jim Kitchen wrote:
 Hi Thomas,

Yes and no. Some of the menus in Puppy1 such as adjust volume, adjust rate
of speech and change voice still use the VB6 keyboard input, because those
are chunks of code from before. The main menus though are DirectX keyboard
input routines that I took from Homer on a Harley and just changed what they
 say.

DirectX keyboard input does not have key presses and releases. You simply
pole all keys or the keys that you are looking for being pressed and it
returns a value of the state of the key.

What I do and have always done is have a slight delay before poling for
another key press. It is working perfectly for me in Puppy1 and Homer on a
Harley. I guess though that the speed of some computers and fingers may make
a difference. It really shouldn't though for the speed of the computer as
the delay routine should be constant regardless of computer speed.

Yes, sorry, I forgot that some computers do not have a right control key. I,
as I did in Homer on a Harley will add for that the space bar does the same
 as the right control key.

Agree with Tom in every respect. Fighting games are the more popular type,
however there are also other games that simply require patience to wander
around to find enemies to kill. 300: march to glory, and devil kings spring
to mind. Both consist of a map where you basically just eliminate everything
in site while trying to accomplish minor things like kill certain people or
simply clear the stage.

Oh gosh no. Hopefully the dev team has dropped that idea. It hasn't been
mentioned in a long time which is always good hope. Hobopolis is awesome
though! best thing that ever happened to that game

The level 12 quest I'd have to agree, its rather tedius and annoying. But
the level 11 quest is still my favorite quest in the game, just because
 of
the originality of the puzzles and how its a parody on almost every RPG
 ever
made to date. But yeah, I agree, ascending is kind of annoying, especially
since its really tough for us to do the hedge maze without wasting a lot
 of
turns getting mazes. The naughty sorceress challenges are kind of a pain
 too
since NS13, they added a lot more to the challenges.

I did the following steps:

1. went to run

It just stood there. It did nothing else. It did not register the file it
did not do a thing. I finally just clicked on the x in the top right hand

 Hi,
Yes, Liam's games work on Vista provided you have DX8VB.dll installed.

 but...
Hi Karl,

Cool! congratulations! It looks like you kicked the Puppy1 games tail.

I did write the game so that it got harder and harder each round. I was
thinking that a score of a million would be good. You more than doubled that.
Nice job!

I might make it in version 2 so that it doesn't get harder as quickly, but I do
think that it should get harder and harder until it is impossible. You know
like it was stated that the old Atari games did.

Again congratulations.

The level 12 quest I'd have to agree, its rather tedius and annoying. But
the level 11 quest is still my favorite quest in the game, just because
 of
the originality of the puzzles and how its a parody on almost every RPG
 ever
made to date. But yeah, I agree, ascending is kind of annoying,
 especially
since its really tough for us to do the hedge maze without wasting a lot
 of
turns getting mazes. The naughty sorceress challenges are kind of a pain
 too
since NS13, they added a lot more to the challenges.

Eh, I had an Mr. A just after I signed up. Shame I don't still have my old

Re: [Audyssey] Kingdom of Loathing discussion.

2008-07-03 Thread Shadow Dragon
Ok, sorry I misinterpreted. Anyhow, yeah, I imagine the dungeon is a fair
amount easier with a bunch of high level people playing it at once. My only
problem there is the loot distribution, its sort of touch and go if you
don't have many good friends in the clan. Least that's how it seems to me.
I'm sure with enough perseverance and patience the multiplayer dungeons
could be completed by a smaller clan for much better loot distribution. It
will definitely be tough though.

Re: [Audyssey] Kingdom of Loathing discussion.

2008-07-03 Thread Shadow Dragon
Nah, just have to have it in your inventory, or any other item of the month
or donation item or familiar or the like. I don't have any Mr. A's anymore,
sold them all for meat. Awesome money-making strategy, that one, if you've
got that cash to spare anyway, which I imagine not many people do.

I believe you needed to have the Mr. A equipped during rollover to prevent
 the account from being deleted.

Eh, I had an Mr. A just after I signed up. Shame I don't still have my
 old
account, but yeah, Mr. A's just aren't that hard to come by. 10 bucks is
 nothing really.

Or, you could always use www.kolsales.com and pay ten bux and buy an
MR. A if you wish. Doubt I'll be doing that though.

Unless you had a Mr. Accessory or one of the donation items, that
 removes
 the inactivity deletion timer.

If you haven't played in a while, your account is most likely
 deleted.

yeah, well I'd like it to be that you reach that point and get something like
the game over thing rather than you dieing and then advancing to the next level.

Hi shaun,

Thank you very much. Very glad to hear that you like Puppy1 so well.

That 71 thousand is on beginner level right?

Yeah, you know I wanted to make it harder and harder each level. Sounds like
you also got to just about as far as one can go for that level.

Oh gosh no. Hopefully the dev team has dropped that idea. It hasn't been
mentioned in a long time which is always good hope. Hobopolis is awesome
though! best thing that ever happened to that game

Ascending is extremely annoying with the NS13 implementation. I hate
 level

I play the game fairly regularly. I've ascended a few times, and have
some
rare and powerful equipment. I'd be willing to help anyone who needs it
 get
a good start into the game, since i remember it can, or used to be a
 bit
 rough on newbies.
