Date: Fri, 03 Jun 2011 19:05:20 -0600

Hi all!

I've been browsing the AudioGames website, and found the one called
Finger Panic was still listed. I played that game a long time ago on
another computer. Apparently the homepage for that is broken. So I
did a Google for BSCGames, and found the BSC site. I looked through
the games there but didn't find the one I wanted. Why was it taken
down? Or is there somewhere else I can get it?

Thanks!

Sharon

Hi Dark,
Hmmm...not surewhere you got the idea that Inform 7 wasn't geared to those
who haven't had any programming experience. Inform 6 needed some knowledge
of OOP to make things work correctly, but all in all the language has been
user-friendly for quite awhile.

Hi Michael.

I'm not really sure this is the place to ask inform related questions
simply because I don't know how many people have used that language here.

Your best off searching on resources like http://www.wurb.com/if/ for
tutorials on the subject and asking on the forum on
http://www.intfiction.org/forum/

from what I've heard though, inform is not the best place to start if you
have no knolidge of programming.

You might try http://www.textadventures.co.uk/quest/ for the quest system,
which is supposed to be absolutely right to none programmers.

Btw, as regards the site thing, one reason why so many visually impared
people are into programming and such is simply that a lot of programming
involves essentially writing the correct text files in the right language,
just like bgt explains.

though there are exceptions, such as when developers like microsoft make
inaccessible tools for manipulating their program libraries etc, these
shouldn't come up until you get into the more advanced areas.

So the bottom line is being blind makes no difference really!

On a politeness front, also on a list ful of very compitant blind people,
it's not really the best manners to play the I'm blind so help me card,
sinse most people here could if they wish. That atitude is just going to
irritate people sinse it's one of the things that often gives blind people
a bad name, heck I'll freely admit I have a prejudice against the
sort of people who do that myself.

Beware the grue!

Hi,
Well...you have to consider the pray. I've never heard of cats eating too

Willem, I completely agree. I didn't originally intend for mice to be so
useful, but as things got more complex I was afraid to go back and start
messing with the underlying equations of the game. When I was designing
the game I expected rabbits and squirrels to be much better in different
situations because they provide predators way more food when eaten. I
hadn't counted on the fact that mice reproduce to fast that a predator
can just eat several mice to do just as well. As you can imagine, even a
slight change to how the mice work would cause balancing issues to ripple
up through the layers, and I just didn't have the confidence in myself to
start fooling with it. Just my luck, I would have broken the entire game
lol!

version of an RPG engine

Ok, have almost finished off very first version of a sort of experiment
using the python programming language, where I'm putting together a sort of
RPG game engine - very simple at this stage, were it will let you quite
easily create your own world/environment, add bad guys to fight, etc., but
one question to finish off this version.

Basically, what would be a simple, but relatively meaningful way to say that
you'd completed/won the game?

As in should I make it something like placing a collected item in a certain
location, or should it just be that you solved some form of puzzle and
therefore made it to a specific location, or should I keep it open to
both/either-or?

Will again just say that this is at this stage a very simple thing which I
might build onto, but I primarily used it to get comfortable in what is a
new programming language to me - and the one other joke is have now found
out that python is literally/officially named after monty python...smile

Stay well

Re: [Audyssey] phraze madness on the pac mate

2011-06-04 Thread The Addictor
I did, on the Audyssey games list--I must not have mailed that particular
message here, but I have mailed others, so I thought people would
understand. As far as an installer goes, I could make one, but remember
that it would be about 80 megs. I thought it would be easier for the user
to just copy the folder over--no installs, no registry editing. However, if
people would like a cab file I could build one.
I play it on a HTC Ozone, and it works well with that. I have also played
it on a Pac Mate 4.1.

So I accidentally found out that there were a few different executables in
the phraze madness directory, 1 for the pc and 2 for windows mobile. So I
took the whole folder, placed it on my pm omni and pooled the wm5/6
executable up and... voyla. it worked like a charm, and it was pretty
stable too. I'm just wondering, ken, why didn't you actually release a
separate wm installer or even tell people about this quite neat trick?
