 Hi.

 good news!

niels has now finished the patch for smugglers 5 that fixes the combat
problem. Get the patch at http://nbsd.fileburst.com/Smugglers5
 _Patch_AllVersions_To_V100c.exe
and just run it to have your copy of the game updated.

it works on the demo or the full versions, so you can now try the demo
 too!

And for anyone who wants to download the demo, find it at
 http://www.nielsbauergames.com/index.html

Also note that if you buy the game you can get all four! previous
 smugglers
games, plus the addon for s3 and I believe s2 for just 2.5 usd! which is
pretty fantastic even taking into account eh fact that unfortunately s2
 has
unlabled images of ship parts meaning it's not completely doable with a
 screen reader (I don't know about s1).

So enjoy! and please support niels by buying the game. The reason he
 didn't!
include the compatibility mode for empires and dungeons 2 was that not
enough people showed interest, so now is the chance to make a real
difference! if you ever wanted complex accessible games, here they are!

 Beware the grue!

 Dark.

Re: [Audyssey] iPhone Audio Games Extant question

2012-10-12 Thread Richard (AudioGames.net)

Hi guys,

Thanks for your input, much appreciated! Extant was developed using a
tool called Unity - http://http://unity3d.com/ - which allows us to
quite easily and cheaply port the game to a multitude of platforms (PC,
MAC, iPhone, Android, browser, Steam, Wii, Xbox, Playstation). The only
real hassle is that we need to take into account certain platform
specifics such as memory, processor speed, screen sizes (jep, even with
audio games ;-) and input controls (mouse, keyboard, controller, touch
input, etc.). We are already experimenting with this with our (video)
game Gluddle - http://gluddle.com - that's currently on sale in the App
Store and free to play online on Kongregate.com and hopefully soon on
Android too. It has allowed us to find many of the pitfalls common to
multiplatform development.

Our personal wish is to design a single version of Extant for all
platforms. However, the PC/MAC versions are probably the most easy to
design for because of the platform specifics mentioned above. For
instance, the audio in the current version of Extant on iPhone tends to
tick/distort/stall sometimes because of memory issues. We'll let you
guys know when the new Extant follow-up project is initiated. If you
have any input or wishes for its gameplay don't hesitate to share them
here on Audyssey, through the AudioGames.net forum or via email! We're
currently busy with promoting Gluddle but you could really help us out
spread the word to friends and family, that way the sooner we can get
back at developing Extant :-)

Have a great day!

Iphone, my thoughts and questions)

Hi Dark, Audyssey

Thanks for your interesting review! Much appreciated. Sander and I are
thinking of developing an iPhone version of Extant for some time now.
Actually, we already got it running for a year on iPhone/iPad but since
Extant is not much more than a tech demo without real gameplay, we did not
yet persue this project. Our questions are these - for you, Dark, but also
the Audyssey community...

- would you be interested in an iPhone version of Extant (and then a full
version game, not just the tech demo)?
- would you be interested in audio games for (mobile) iOs (iPhone/iPod
Touch/iPad) devices?
- would you be interested in audio games for (mobile) Android (for example
Samsung Note, Galaxy) devices?
- how many of you play the adio games that are currently in Apple's AppStore
- and what do you think of these?

Thanks for your input. If there's enough interest we might want to make
Extant (or another audio game) one of our next projects! Oh, and if you
really want a full game version of Extant on PC or Mac, please let us know
too :-) And if you don't know what Extant is, check this out:

Ah, not that

Was hoping fors omething dif, smiling frown.

Yeah, sure sounds like what happen to the Vista long time ago.
And never could move up its securty package.

That's why Shown did not want to mess with the error and ignore it..e

Yup, right on the money, Inno just updated the installer.

But if JS Installer is only a set of Jaws scripts for Inno.
The latest version think 5.5 looks doable without any scripts.

I do have my own batch file that did the job nicely for the Baseball
scripts.

But even my things changed and revamping the batch file can be done.
But even a few words of instructions, will have novice blind computers can
be left in the dark.
Wile the batch file was for moving files arouind after unzipping and
locating the folder from the extrat to a location.
I guess, was looking at the front end of this process more for me then
gamers.

As I took a quick look at the program Inno installer.
I'll have to do some testing and writting.
I had users in the shell window to accept or not in replacing files.
Thinking of junking that, things like that.
What I am considering then in the batch file to us a unzip command.
Or at last, the Jaws packager, wkhich long time ago may had a bug in it and
caused me to abandon that direction.

But thanks Shawn, extactly what I need, had thought in the same direction
and others.

well garry, you should download the latest installer.
due to the new certificate polocy every windows installer package that is
from january 2010 to 8 october 2012 is now defunked and useless.

Several companies have not updated.
inno has just upgraded their scripts though since innos are not msis they
shouldn't be effected.

In fact I just tested inno installer I had and its not effected.
Never the less assume that any installer with certifficates signed after
january 1 2010 to the present month are now rubbish.
anything after say the 10th of this month and up will work though as
previders can't make 512 bit certifficates anymore.
Some like adobe have updated bits of stuff, and assume other companies
will start releasing programs in due cource.
this cert thing has to do with security certifficates on emails, websites
and activex controls so yeah.
Saying that if you are wanting to create a new installer and need a
certifficate you shouldn't have a problem.
any old installer made from the period january 2010 to september 2012 is
now in the can.

anything made after october 10th or before january 1 is still active.
You could just delete the certifficate unless you really want it in there.
Right now expect everything you do as outdated and there fore crap!
everyone's software is now a pile of junky crap since everyone is
effected.
Personally I would have actually made sure all software was upgraded
rather than ms forcing the upgrade on people that obviously hadn't
upgraded yet to the new security model.
Now users and developers will have to wait for upgrades or redo their
certs.
As a user I am angry at ms for not actually getting everything set with
its previders like verisign to verify that most had upgraded before making
the change.
You can crack the registry temperarily to lower your security, but you
will then put your system at risk though ms does acknowledge that for a
time there will be a backlog as everyone tries to resign their security
with the new standard.

The cheapest way is to avoid ms installers.
if you do need ms components aparently they will install since windows
will allow for them to be installed.
For the general blind dev that has payed probably a lot to get their certs
concider what you need that security for.
it may be easier to kill that or stop using windows installers all
together.
If you are new though then you can only buy the new standard now so there
is no problem.

[Audyssey] question regarding emon games

2012-10-12 Thread Keith
Hi I was playing the stand alone emon games and have a question. When you
are at the main menu, you can view your selected character and see how much
damage a particular weapon can do. Is this possible to do when in the
actual game, like when you find a new weapon? Or is it pretty much trial
and error?

Also, when you find a companion, like the amazon, or eddie, is there any
way to check their stats, equipment or whatever?

Thanks

Re: [Audyssey] question regarding emon games

2012-10-12 Thread dark

Hi kieth.

Firstly on weapons. It is true that is a weakness of the system as far as
weapons go, you cannot check their stats during an adventure, though usually
you can get a pretty good idea of their damage by using them. Also in most
adventures descriptions are pretty accurate so something that is described
as a standard sword is just that, and you'll usually want to keep
everythingaround anyway to sell when you get back to the hall so you find
the good weapons then.

Also, note that in the actual eamon game, grendel the smith in the village
by the main hall sells exceptional quality weapons, that are usually far
better than the ones you find on adventures so it's more often than not
better to use his.

all in all while not seeing weapon stats is a bit of a pest, it's not a
major flaw in the system when your playing the full games because of the way
the main hall works.

As to companions, look amazon or look jo will tell you their basic
physical condition, for a more complete readout on hwat their carrying
try i amazon or I jo, indeed it's usually a good idea to inventory anyone
who becomes your friend sinse in some adventures they can be carrying
important objects.

to get something from a companion type request, and to give them something
type give. This way you can arm unarmed companions or share healing potions.

Hth.

hope your enjoying the games, especially runcible cargo, I was most
impressed with that one.

[Audyssey] Kitchen's Baseball game doesn't find a voice

2012-10-12 Thread Gerardo Corripio
Hi Jim or whoever is reading this email: On a Windows Xp machine in
which I have several Sapi voices I can't get the Baseball or battnig
program to work! Only I hear the crowd sounds, but no voice, thus giving
an error and won't close.
I've had it working fine using the Akapela's Heather Voice which I have
as default, but wanted to change the Baseball voice to Ryan; I did f12
and it cycled among Sam and when it got to the RealSpeak Paulina is when
it got stuck; it kept on playing the baseball song over and over and
over; i had to close via the Control+alt+delete.

Several actions I tried which didn't work?
1.-Uninstalled everything and reinstalled the game system and the
Baseball and other games. I was careful to perform the CCleaner and
restart the pc.
2.-Deleted the Realspeak Paulina voice so, as I thought, when the game
would start, it'll default to the Heather voice as before but no go! I
had to reinstall the Paulina Voice because not only the Baseball/batting
Practice, but the game system itself didn't work! Upon reinstalling the
Paulina voice and when I made sure everything else worked OK, I
relaunched the Baseball/batting Practice and The error keeps coming up
on both, the Baseball game and baseball practice.
3.-I tried uninstalling the Baseball game by going to Program Files
Kitchen Sinc; Uninbase bat; on pressing Enter Windows xp comes up saying
it can't find the Uninstabase file! Any other ideas? I might as well
give up on Baseball since all other games work great!

What are people using to play Z-Code/Infocom games on Windows nowadays?

I tried the latest WindowsFrotz, but I wasn't able to read som eof the

Upon reinstalling the
Paulina voice and when I made sure everything else worked OK, I
relaunched the Baseball/batting Practice and The error keeps coming up on
both, the Baseball game and baseball practice.
3.-I tried uninstalling the Baseball game by going to Program Files
Kitchen Sinc; Uninbase bat; on pressing Enter Windows xp comes up saying
it can't find the Uninstabase file! Any other ideas? I might as well give
up on Baseball since all other games work great!

Tobias, Winfrotz enables you to turn on self-voicing via installed SAPI

[Audyssey] Question About Playing Smugglers 5

2012-10-12 Thread Kelly Sapergia

Hi,

I've been reading about the Smugglers games for awhile now, and finally got
some time to check out the Smugglers 5 demo. So far, it's not bad, but I'm
wondering if there's anything that can be done to improve the accessibility,
other than turning on the compatibility mode for visually impaired
players, which I've already done. I find it annoying listening to various
columns of information, at least during the tutorial. Also, there were some
occasions where JAWS couldn't see the word guns when I tried moving to it
in order to use them during a battle. Any suggestions, or is all this normal
behavior?

Re: [Audyssey] question regarding emon games

2012-10-12 Thread shaun everiss

Hi kieth.
Hmmm you can do x weapon or i and get stats, and you can also examine
yourself and your chars I think.

However the demo adventures are now quite old and crappy, all out of date.
the next version is aparently almost done just manuals and a few revisions.
A couple days I got the next prebeta snapshot, and loads have been updated.
In the full build you can do things like crack your char stats wide
open, crack your cash wide open as well as make any weapon as
powerfull as you want.

actually there is a limit of 50 dice and 50 sides.
you can only get 50 k
in bank and in hand.
Depending on what you want you can learn and go up and up but you are
encouraged to hack your char, in fact you are encouraged to cheat
your way through.

Right now though I don't max my cash unless I need it.

new weapon? Or is it pretty much trial and error?

Also, when you find a companion, like the amazon, or eddie, is
there any way to check their stats, equipment or whatever?

uninstall and reinstall realspeak and don't run the paulena voice
unless you need it.
note! if your apps are not working right you need to check general on
priperties and find the unblock button.

if it exists press it.
Due to certifficate upgrades, everything is now suspect.
if you unblock it then the system thinks its trusted.

Hi Dark, in the game you mentioned at the end of the last post, I came
across a safe that I can open which contains a letter. But, I have found
that the only way I can get things out of containers (cabinets, safes,
fridges, etc) is to attack them, thus breaking them. Is there any other way
of getting objects and people out of small enclosed spaces without
damaging the container? Plus, some containers seem invincible to damange,

I feel like tossing my netbook though the window.

Hi kieth.

Firstly on weapons. It is true that is a weakness of the system as far as
weapons go, you cannot check their stats during an adventure, though
usually you can get a pretty good idea of their damage by using them. Also
in most adventures descriptions are pretty accurate so something that is
described as a standard sword is just that, and you'll usually want to
keep everythingaround anyway to sell when you get back to the hall so you
find the good weapons then.

Also, note that in the actual eamon game, grendel the smith in the
village by the main hall sells exceptional quality weapons, that are
usually far better than the ones you find on adventures so it's more
often than not better to use his.

all in all while not seeing weapon stats is a bit of a pest, it's not a
major flaw in the system when your playing the full games because of the
way the main hall works.

As to companions, look amazon or look jo will tell you their basic
physical condition, for a more complete readout on hwat their carrying
try i amazon or I jo, indeed it's usually a good idea to inventory anyone
who becomes your friend sinse in some adventures they can be carrying
important objects.

to get something from a companion type request, and to give them something
type give. This way you can arm unarmed companions or share healing
potions.

Hth.

hope your enjoying the games, especially runcible cargo, I was most
impressed with that one.

Beware the Grue!

Dark.

Re: [Audyssey] Question About Playing Smugglers 5

2012-10-12 Thread Tobias Vinteus
Thanks, Kelly. I am mainly a braille user, and would prefer not to rely on
speech output. I know there are two frotzes for Windows, namely Winfrotz
(the older one) and Windowsfrotz (the newer one). It would have been nice
to be able to run games on the newer interpreter. I've also seen a few
other Windows-based interpreters on the IF Archive. I think I'll try out
those too, and see what I can get out of them in terms of accessibility.

It might also pay off for me to try Windowsfrotz with NVDA, since at times
it seems to surpass Jaws in certain areas. And maybe I'll throw a mail at
the Windowsfrotz dev and see if that person is willing to make the program
more Jaws friendly.
