Re: [Audyssey] student computer setup
Hi tom. Yeah I missed the lti games out, oops. The other homer games are part of the kitchensinc stuff and would probably fit. The only reason I havn't mentioned the early pb games is that I have had some issues with the java system. Although I know they can be set up reasonably easily, I don't trust the java systems as they sometimes need fine tuning and my plan is to stay with straight library based games. I have all libs from dotnet 1.1 to 4.0 slim dx directx visual c 2005-2010 and a few others. My plan is to bump all those, and maybe tads, hugo and inform with sapi active maybe the infocom archive, and some of my old games from my old games directory that are in inform and tads, and let em wrip though some of those are not suitable either so I will have to go through and fiddle a bit with my stuff. Anyway if things work with established libraries thats fine. I have also left games that need experienced cracking and hacking of settings and manual library installations as I am more than likely going to have a limited setup time once this all goes golden. I have no idea of the time frame, but I assume asap. THe core software will be active. My main tasks will be to load office, load any extras, do a full drive scan and frag check. upgrade everything to full, then do a performance test on the system, a stress burnin and crash test all with pcpitstop and a driver upgrade run. Games are at the end of my list. And based on those I want stuff I can load and configure with little or no actual work on my part as I have no idea what the runtime for this is. I have been on the recieving end of projects where its taken far to long to run things. So worst case senario I am looking at a runtime of basically 5 days ago. Which means I need to be able to load and configure straight if at all. This means no fiddling if I can help it. Its a pitty that the guy has no net as I have enjoyed the quentin c playroom and would definately like to use that. but oh well. I have no idea what will eventually get on. And to tell you the truth, what I just put out is a broad software list chunk. On a couple other lists I have put out a vote list for other software. THats the first stage. Ofcause the next stage is the brief. Its possible that the guy will be destracted with games and this part of the project will end. Or it may mean that even mild violence is disruptive meaning I will have to choose what I load and it may not be everything. So its why I have stayed with the smaller stuff. stfc may be ok as well as old trek2k to, and maybe world of war and bocura2 but who knows. I am probably going to load bgt, and some stuff like roadsplat. However whatever I load needs to be reasonably safe. I am not sure what leeway I have and if I get it right fine. if not I will get shot with a rocket and my life won't be worth living. The game idea is just an addon, I will know what exactly I will get. I plan to put out what is round, but as you probably know sighted vs blind especially in schools in general and what they can and are allowed to do can be as open as a front door or as closed down as a 386 running windows 95. I won't go into things right here but I had an experience where a probabal misconfiguration got me access to a system that I shouldn't have got access to. I was then blamed for hacking and fired and then given a lame excuse why I was fired. i doubt the origional issue was solved either as I had someone on the inside and he aparently told me it got even worse. sertain sightlings are set in their ways of managing the poor blind and knowing what is best for the poor disabled, retarded and helpless. This is a load of cow dung but just like cow dung it smells and sticks to things, and you can't move it easily. So once I give the brief I fully expect to run the minimal things. Ofcause at heart I am a hacker, and will try to break the rules where I can. However that may mean dumming down majorly. Right now I am just getting a feel on what is good or not. sertainly shooting monsters or even other junk is probably out but we will see. Hi Shaun, From GMA, David's card games, and his rocket lander that are in beta. I'd like to call it Lunar Lander but it also allows you to land on Mars, Earth and other places. Star Trek 2000, is now free In which you command four Federation Star ships. On my site, PCS games,For a Harry Potter fan, the demo of Sarah and the Castle of W and W allows you to play on the ground floor and basement for free. My Super Dog Egg Hunt is free even though it says demo. And finally many people like to play my Pacman Talks on the one free level as the layout of the game is the same, with the ghosts getting faster on the paid levels. Re: [Audyssey] Sennheiser headphones, was Shades of doom audio review.
Fair enough on the ear buds point tom, though I do find the senheisa ones very comfortable owing to the good quality rubbers they have. Also, because they're very much down your ear hole, the sound quality is improved over simmple ear peace types I find, which for a £30 set of headphones that I cart around with me is a great improvement. The only headphones I find literally uncomfortable are those solid ear peaces that just sit in your ears with no protection, some makes can feel quite unpleasant and I've a couple of times got electric shocks when they're wearing out, why I prefer either propper ear phones or the inner ear earbuds with comfortable rubbers on them. the 200 quid uba ones I have (which i will check the model details of), are indeed massive, padded and very comfortable to wear, but the sound quality is what recommends them, in headphone terms I've not heard better. Re: [Audyssey] rocket lander, was: Re: student computer setup
Hi, Below is David's message with the link to the beta lander game. One suggestion is to occasionally hit v for your velocity. Landing on the moon takes a velocity of less than 5. Hi all, I wrote this a while ago, but I cleaned it upm did some documentation, and then packaged it. The game is called GMA Lander. The space key is the only key required to play GMA Lander. Your lander is accelerating towards an asteroid, moon, or planet and you must use your thrusters to slow down your ship to a speed where it can safely land. As long as you keep the space bar pressed, the thrusters will continue to fire, but be thrifty since you only have a limited amount of fuel. If your landing velocity is greater than the ship's crash speed, your lander will crash and you will have lost the game. That is pretty well all you need to know to play the game, but you may want to read the documentation for more details. Warning. Although tested, this is a beta and so there may be a few typos and bugs you may come across. Although you can play the game with only one key, some experience with the game is needed to play well, so don't be discouraged if you can't make a successful landing on the first few tries. Re: [Audyssey] Getin run time 6 overflow when trying to launchtheGMAlander.
Hi Ron, Yeah, it took me about 20 times to land on the moon. I needed to use the v key several times to make sure my velocity was under 5. It would be a lot easier if you had more than 9 seconds of fuel. I think Apollo 11 had 25 seconds of fuel left when it landed. - Original Message - From: Ron Kolesar kolesar16...@roadrunner.com To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Tuesday, December 11, 2012 2:08 PM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Getin run time 6 overflow when trying to launchtheGMAlander. [Audyssey] GMA Lunar lander
Hi Ron, In the GMA lander the amount of fuel is the variable. Easy landing on the moon gives you 9 seconds, Moderate 7 seconds, and hard, 5 seconds. I usually wait until 200 to start firing and then try to keep the velocity around 10 or less. Here is the Apollo eleven landing transcript. altitude, feet per second 700 feet, 21 600 feet, down at 19 540 feet, down at 15 400 feet, down at 9 350 feet, down at 4 330, down a three and a half 300 feet, down 3 and a half. 270 feet, down 1 and a half. 250 feet, down at 2 and a half, 220 feet, down at 3 and a half, 200 feet, 4 and a half down, 160 feet, 6 and a half down, 120 feet, 5 and a half down, 100 feet, 3 and a half down, 75 feet. When it comes to purcahing credits in alter aeon, how much do they cost, and how many actual credits do you get for lets say each dollar you pay? Re: [Audyssey] student computer setup
Thanks phill. right now I am probably going to avoid demos, well to be honest the guy won't have the cash to buy. And then there is the fact that a lot of demos will expire. So I am restricting to free games which are complete. Its doubtfull the guy will have any eccess cash, so I want to avoid all comercially done games for that reason. Saying that, there is teraformers, but that will depend on the soundcard, I have noticed that in some rooms on the ocean level tf does not work well with high def cards, not supprising as it was meant for analog units. I believe this information is listed on the website. 1 dollar is worth 100 credits, so one practice is worth 2 dollars and 50 cents. You purchase credits by sending a paypal donation to s...@xirr.com, which is shown in help credits I think. -- From: Keith ks.steinbac...@gmail.com Sent: Tuesday, December 11, 2012 07:17 PM To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Subject: [Audyssey] donations, credits and alter aeon When it comes to purcahing credits in alter aeon, how much do they cost, and how many actual credits do you get for lets say each dollar you pay? Re: [Audyssey] student computer setup
I meant javascript. however even lately on xp I had had sisues setting them up and to be hones I have played these a lot. At 10:29 p.m. 11/12/2012 -0500, you wrote: Hi Shaun, Well, about the PB Games fair enough. I've had my own share of problems with those games especially on Windows 7 with Internet Explorer 9 and on Windows 8 with Internet Explorer 10. That said, I want to point out the PB Games were not written in Java. They were written in Javascript. Despite the similarity in names Java and Javascript are two completely different programming languages and you should be aware there is a big difference between them. Cheers! On 12/11/12, shaun everiss sm.ever...@gmail.com wrote: Hi tom. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org.
