Subject: [Audyssey] Help with TTS.

Hello.

I was wondering if anyone knows if I could get a different TTS voice for
Windows 7 32bit?
I would like to play with a voice that is louder then the default voice. I
would only be using it with the Kitchensinc games.

Thanks for the help!

Hi Josh,

Don't forget about Cereproc. They sell voices for Windows 7 as well,
and they aren't bad. Although, Cepstral or Ivona would be my personal
choice for a place to purchase voices from. In addition the AT&T
voices can be purchased from Nextup for a fair price as well, and
those work with Windows 7 32-bit just fine. They just haven't been
updated for Windows 7 64-bit, and I'm not sure AT&T is going to.

Re: [Audyssey] Help with TTS.

2013-09-10 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Michael,

Well, if you are looking for free voices for Windows 7 there aren't a
whole lot to choose from. Basically, you are limited to Espeak from
http://www.espeak.sourceforge.net
which is fairly robotic sounding, but is fast and responsive as a
synthesizer as you are going to find.

However, if you are willing to spend a little cash for a decent voice
there are a lot of choices out there. First, there are the Cepstral
voices from
http://www.cepstral.com
which are fairly decent for games as well as screen readers. There is
the Ivona TTS voices from
http://www.ivona.com
which are a bit expensive, but are among the best sounding voices I
have ever used. There are the Cereproc voices from
http://www.cereproc.com
which aren't too bad. These aren't my favorite, but are worth checking out.

Bottom line, in my opinion unless you are willing to pay $30 or so for
a high quality voice you aren't going to find any better than Anna for
free for Windows 7. Windows 8 has some better SAPI voices, but that's
going to cost you more than just buying some third-party voices from
the sites listed above.

Cheers!

Re: [Audyssey] tts uninstallation help needed for windows 7 64 bit

2013-09-10 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Shaun,

I'm afraid not. Microsoft's support for Mike, Mary, and Sam officially
ended with SAPI 5.1 which was for Windows 2000 and XP. Since XP is
about to be dropped in 2014 I'd also assume all related components
such as SAPI 5.1 will also be dropped. Windows Vista comes with SAPI
5.3, Windows 7 SAPI 5.4, and Windows 8 SAPI 5.5. Personally speaking,
I am sort of glad Microsoft abandoned those voices, because the new
SAPI 5.5 voices that come with Windows 8 and the Windows 8.1 beta are
far superior in quality and anyone who is looking for free SAPI voices
that are fairly decent should upgrade to Windows 8 or 8.1 when it
comes out.

As far as using the SAPI 4 version those voices actually sounded
better than the SAPI 5.1 versions did, but no games I know of use
them. The Kitchen's Inc. games use SAPI 5 not SAPI 4, and besides
which SAPI 4 has been deprecated a long time. Its a Windows 98
technology for heaven's sake.

Cheers!

[Audyssey] for jim kitchen-question about .cfg files

2013-09-10 Thread Johnny Tai
Hi Jim; I need to manually go into the .cfg files for the games to mod the
sapi voice number so the voices work properly.
For the most part it works fine, but I can't find the .cfg file for trucker
at all.
Can you inlighten me as to where the sapi and score info is stored for
trucker?
Thanks
