It's really random, especially when games like shard workshop's zero site,
which to me was an exceptional flight simulation game with a lot of replay
value seem to have been largely forgotten by the community.

Hi Jody,

Unfortunately, that is true. There is a lot of things the developer of
Bavisoft could have and probably should have done, but he strikes me
as not really giving a care. He wrote Chillingham and Grizzly Gulch
and after that pretty much let things go without too much in the way
of technical support, follow ups, and insuring people can legally
obtain his products once Bavisoft closed its doors for good. Its sad,
but in my opinion the games weren't that good to begin with so aren't
that much of a loss to the community in my opinion.

Cheers!

It's interesting that audio adventures (as I've called the genre on
audiogames.net), are now becoming far more common and we have some rather
better examples like the inquisitor games and codename signus, not to
mention graille to the thief which is about the same difficulty as the
bavisoft games, but just costs 5 usd, and is hopefully just an intro for
similar games later on.

Re: [Audyssey] looking for another game please.

2015-10-22 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Dark,

Actually, I believe the ICANN shut the Bavisoft site down last year
not 2012. In any case it makes little difference because as you say
they were long since not a going concern by then. They wouldn't answer
their e-mails, couldn't be contacted by phone, and were notoriously
bad about not shipping orders for their games. So regardless of when
they were shutdown they were pretty much done anyway.

Cheers!

2015-10-22 Thread Milos Przic
Hahaha yes, the little gremlin is very nice and funny one. I am now so
confident of my character that I most often kill the lady without losing a
single life. I do this by jumping 3 jumps from her to the right (if possible
hit her first once), then I turn and shoot 1 or even 2 arrows if she is far
enough. Then jump back or over her, depending on where I have more space.
The things that can kill in the process are the nasty gosts but I often kill
her before she summons them!

I totally agree with your sentiments. I think she should have been a later
boss too.

I was so frustrated that I was wishing for cheat codes, just so I could
get past her. But after a couple hours of trying, I finally beat her. You
need to hit her, then jump over her, then try to hit her again, and jump
in the opposite direction while she's frozen and screaming in pain. Repeat
the process until she's dead, which, frankly, does take far longer than it
should. I know I'm not explaining it well, and it didn't make any sense to
me either until I'd actually done it.

When I got to the little gremlin dude, as I call him, which is the second
boss, it was so much easier to beat him than the Gray Lady that I was
really questioning why he wasn't the first boss.

[Audyssey] Zero sight was: Re: looking for another game please.

2015-10-22 Thread dark

Hi.

Most Certainly.
http://www.shardworkshop.com/audiogames.php

The main game is zero sight, there is a short demo to play and several audio
tutorials. Bare in mind the game is intended to simulate the difficulty of
flying an aircraft, so expect to crash and burn a few times before you can
even take off, still it's like most games that take practice worth it when
you get the knack.
There is also the Extended operations addon for the game which adds 8 new
missions making 16 in all, two newweapons for your plane, the ability to
parachute out when your in trouble and best of all, randomly generated
missions.

I've always been very impressed with Zero sight and am rather sad fewer
people don't put in the time sinsce it's an exceptionally well put together
game, both the initial and the addon.

All the best,

Dark.

Also - before anybody comments on the legality yes, we can do that (barring

I would have been curious to know why she was stuck on the stairs too.
That could have made for a pretty interesting twist to the story. If
someone is frozen in limbo, there's usually a pretty compelling reason
for it.

It could even have worked against Patrick. Suppose that there was a
choice to help her. He's then allowed to pass the stairs unharmed, and
in the following level he has to search for clues about this gate and
how to find it. And if he does, he could go back, but then the Gray Lady
decides that she doesn't want to show mercy on him after all, or even
that she can't, for whatever reason, leave the staircase. Then you could
fight her. That would have been a lot more intriguing, not to mention it
would have completely justified the difficulty level of the fight.

Additionally, if he took too long, his karma, or energy, could be
drained by her evil presence. That would have been awesome.

I totally agree with your sentiments. I think she should have been a
later boss too.

I was so frustrated that I was wishing for cheat codes, just so I could
get past her. But after a couple hours of trying, I finally beat her.
You need to hit her, then jump over her, then try to hit her again, and
jump in the opposite direction while she's frozen and screaming in
pain.

Repeat the process until she's dead, which, frankly, does take far
longer than it should. I know I'm not explaining it well, and it didn't
make any sense to me either until I'd actually done it.

When I got to the little gremlin dude, as I call him, which is the
second boss, it was so much easier to beat him than the Gray Lady
that I

was really questioning why he wasn't the first boss.

Re: [Audyssey] looking for another game please.

2015-10-22 Thread Shaun Everiss

I must say I do want to see what things were like before.
Its why I go for old soundcard soundfonts crappy that they may be for
general use.
I mean gameboy soundfont, crap for almost everything else but what if I
want to play a old game soundtrack and remember it.
Or if I get something what about getting something like a snes or nes
font or old synth not suited for music and play it for something not
supposed to do that.
hvsc does c64 and thats one synth I enjoy playing, the older stuff some
of it is so good it stays.

Game wise well who knows.
Last night I watched an old video of a mainframe starting up, computers
starting are nothing to what it was back then and I liked the nostelga.

Hi John.

Bavisoft vanished off the map long before their site shut down, indeed
the
last I remember anyone hearing from them was in August of 2009, and that
was

only a "please don't copy our games", nothing about the game compatibility
problems with newer windows, their future plans or most worrying of all
their lost orders, or why the hell they were persisting in trying to sell
games on cd that could be easily downloaded, indeed as far as I know
nobody
recieved a new cd of a Bavisoft title sinse after 2008, and even before
then

several orders went missing.

To set the hole matter to rest I tried to even phone Bavisoft myself after
I

got hold of the founder's actual new york number through some creative use
of Google, and got what I believe is the American out of order sygnal,
which

seems pretty conclusive proof.

Bottom line, Bavisoft seem to have dropped off the map as far as I'm
concerned, and they did so long before their website went bye bye.

Beware the grue!

ICANN, the internet corporation for assigned names and numbers, is basically
the organization that manages domain (website) names, and keeps track of who
has what website. They also require a certain degree of accountability from
anybody who has a website - requiring a valid address, phone and email
before you can set up a website - and its the term "valid" that got Bavisoft
shut down.

Cheers!

Bavisoft didn't "close". They were "closed" (as in their site was shut down
by ICANN).

Cheers!

Re: [Audyssey] looking for another game please.

2015-10-22 Thread dark

Hi John.

Bavisoft vanished off the map long before their site shut down, indeed the
last I remember anyone hearing from them was in August of 2009, and that was
only a "please don't copy our games", nothing about the game compatibility
problems with newer windows, their future plans or most worrying of all
their lost orders, or why the hell they were persisting in trying to sell
games on cd that could be easily downloaded, indeed as far as I know nobody
recieved a new cd of a Bavisoft title sinse after 2008, and even before then
several orders went missing.

To set the hole matter to rest I tried to even phone Bavisoft myself after I
got hold of the founder's actual new york number through some creative use
of Google, and got what I believe is the American out of order sygnal, which
seems pretty conclusive proof.

Bottom line, Bavisoft seem to have dropped off the map as far as I'm
concerned, and they did so long before their website went bye bye.

Beware the grue!

Dark.

Oh sure they vanished long before - but I was talking about when folks
started officially declaring them gone, which was when (forum user whose
name I can't recall) got them kicked off the net.

I suspect there may also be a bit of psychology at work regarding their titles; meaning that Bavisoft has gotten a lot of attention. Not positive attention for sure, but attention nonetheless. Therefore, some folks will naturally want to see the
subject of that attention.

I would agree John on that generally, however I seem to have seen more
discussions of bavisoft's games than those from any other defunked developer
for some reason, even Bsc hasn't generated this much sporadic interest, nor
code factory despite their games being in the same genre as bavisoft's.

For some very odd reason, Bavisoft just keeps coming back in people's
minds, and I'm really not sure why, sinse the games, while as I said worth a
playespecially what I'd call landmark titles, not compared to something
like superliam or troopanum.

I suspect for the same reason folks ask for a lot of old games - they just
want to see what it was like.
Either that, or they once played the game, no longer have it and want to
play it again.

I think that was in 2012 or so, but as I said they were long sinse dead
before that, indeed to be honest I always wonder why there's so much
discussion of bavisoft. The games are available for whoever wants to play
them, and as I said they're probably worth at least one run for amusement
value, however once you've played them there's not a lot else to say.

Even as far as the audio adventures genre goes much bigger and better
things

have been done sinse and will likely continue to be done in the future.

It's really random, especially when games like shard workshop's zero site,
which to me was an exceptional flight simulation game with a lot of replay
value seem to have been largely forgotten by the community.

I yelled many an explitive at the Gray Lady I can tell you. LOL. As for the
King Gremlin as I like to call him, I actually would consider him more of a
miniboss since there's no cutscene or explanation before you fight him.

I totally agree with your sentiments. I think she should have been a
later boss too.

I was so frustrated that I was wishing for cheat codes, just so I could
get past her. But after a couple hours of trying, I finally beat her.
You need to hit her, then jump over her, then try to hit her again, and
jump in the opposite direction while she's frozen and screaming in pain.
Repeat the process until she's dead, which, frankly, does take far
longer than it should. I know I'm not explaining it well, and it didn't
make any sense to me either until I'd actually done it.

When I got to the little gremlin dude, as I call him, which is the
second boss, it was so much easier to beat him than the Gray Lady that I
was really questioning why he wasn't the first boss.

jump quickly to my right, she gets me, no matter how quickly I jump. What
am I doing wrong? It's really anoying me, especially as she's the first
boss, she'd have been better off being a boss either on hard mode, or a
later boss in the game.
