Re: [Audyssey] Lovecraft

2015-12-05 Thread Cara Quinn
Hi Dark,

thanks very much.

Yes, Shadow Horror stood out to me as being a good candidate but the reviews
were saying it was pretty buggy. So it’s nice to know that that may not still
be true and that it is worth checking out.

As for Bodies, I have actually played that one about ten years ago and was not
sure it was even still around. Perhaps I will revisit it and give it a play. I
don’t think I’d ever finished it. It’s been a while so perhaps it will be fun
to check it out again.

Thanks for the other suggestion as well. I will definitely look for it.

I wonder what creating a story for the COG /HG peeps entails. Perhaps one might
need to be written in a Lovecraftian style. ;)

Have a great weekend!

Cheers!

Shadow horror is worth a try though for general creeipiness and a great monster
as well as multiple endings and puzzles.

If you want something directly lovecraftian, go to the fighting fantasy project
site and try bodies in the dock by James Osborn, which is set in the thirties
and very much in the mythos.

From that site, Devil's flight, though it is a scifi game set aboard an
abandoned colony space ship also uses lovecraftian ideas, for example it has a
madness scale that goes more extreme the more paranormal creatures you
encounter.

If you are a beta tester for Kid Friendly Software, should you be letting
people know of what is to come? Most contracts between tester and company
do not want you to tell anything about what is being tested.

Re: [Audyssey] Lovecraft

2015-12-05 Thread dark

Hi Cara.

Well I've played shadow horror and didn't notice any bugs, maybe the
reviews were posted of an earlier version? It's a little odd as far as Cog
games go, because basically it's almost more like an if title in cog with
lots of objects to interact with.
I also like the way the descriptions are fairly plane, then suddenly you hit
nightfall and bam! everything goes ultra surreal and freaky. Not literally
lovecraftian, but a good bit of horror writing with a nice point and good
replay, you can even replay with the writer's commentary.

To write Cog/hg games, you just need to write them in the Choice script
language. This isn't a programming languageas such, it's a scripting
language letting you defign sections, choices, what choices go where, defign
stats and variables and how they are affected by choices and tested etc.
It looked fairly easy going as languages go, you can find out all about it
under the "make your own games" section of www.choiceofgames.com, indeed
their hosted games range are just that, games written by guest authors and
published, but not directly under the choiceofgames line, which is why the
hosted games tend to range in quality, although generally I've noticed a
very high level of quality control among the cog/hg games.

So all this is to say, if you want to give choice script a go, feel free, a
Cthulhu mythos game sounds great!

As to ffproject, if you've not been on there for a while it might be worth a
look, they come out with new books occasionally, most recently last week
with golem gauntlet (which I have not yet played but looks cool).

Beware the grue!

Dark.
