Re: [Audyssey] baseball
Hi Ishan, If you choose hit and run, and hit the ball, the base runner or runners will advance one or two bases more than usual. They start running sooner. Actually as the pitcher winds up and pitches. Hopefully the batter will hit the ball. If you choose steal and hit the ball it will be pretty much like a hit and run. But if you do not hit the ball the base runner or runners will try to steal a base. But any time that you hit the ball the base runners will run. If a batter is hit by the pitch, he goes to first base. It is just like a hit. Well a single. So the next batter is up. Re: [Audyssey] braille/large print/other media for audiogames(wasinfo games game engines)
Hi Dark, Yeah, I guess that packaging and postage could get expensive, but I was thinking that they could be passed out at conventions, meetings, organizations etc. And you know I think that just about everyone can play an audio CD. And allot of people can make copies of them. BFN - Original Message - Hi Jim. That is a very good suggestion Jim, and shouldn't be too hard to arrange either, though distributing the cds could be interesting. All the best, Dark. Re: [Audyssey] Update my games
Hi Lisa, I myself am still running XP, so wouldn't know how to update my games. Below are the instructions for installing my games. The first thing that you need to do is to run the setup.exe file in the winkit.zip file as it installs files that the rest of the games need. So open the winkit.zip file, press S and then enter. The winkit.zip file is the first link on my free windows text to speech games page. The rest of my games require full administration rights to install. To do this arrow to the games installation file, press the Windows context menu key, arrow to run as administrator, and press enter. This will allow you to install the game as administrator. Or you can just turn off the whole User Account Control thing in Vista or Windows 7 and it will do the same thing. And here is a message about my games and Windows 7. Hello all, I just found out something I hope will help you Sherry, ok you no how in windows 7 we have two program file folders? One is just called program files, and the other is called program files x86, well here is what happen to me. I installed the winkit program and it went into just the program files x86 folder. And when I installed the games they went into the folder. Called just program files. So fined out which one is the winkit one and go to which of the program folders the computer put the games in and copy and paste them into the winkit one it works. Like I found out winkit was in the program files x86 so I went to just program files and copied the games from kitchensinc and put them in program files x86 kitchensinc and then I removed the one in program files. Just deleted the folder. Make sure you are in administrator Hope that helps. Susan I hope that helps. Re: [Audyssey] history of Jim Kitchen's games?
Hi Josh, I started teaching myself the Basic programming language in 1980 on a Texas Instruments 99 4A- home computer. Next on an Atari 800 XL home computer, then an IBM PC Junior. I mostly wrote games with some simple graphics. By December of 1989 I no longer had any sight. I bought an N E C 286 running Jaws for dos version 1 with an Accent SA synthesizer. In January 1990 I was at the Cleveland Sight Center learning braille etc. So I wrote my braille reference guide program at that time. I was now programming in Quick Basic 4.5 which wrote directly to the screen, so the games were only accessible via Jaws for dos script files. Those games were on the Henter Joyce BBS in like 1991. Then I was told how to make Quick Basic 4.5 write to the bios and that made the games accessible for all dos screen readers, so I up loaded the games to the BBS PC Ohio, which was part of the planet connect system. So the games got distributed to BBSs all over the world. That was probably in 1992 or 3. Then Phil Vlasak showed me how to shell out and use an external program to play sound files. So now we added sounds to the dos games. Well they had the little beeps etc from the little PC speaker before that, but now we were playing actual sound files in the games. In 2000 David Greenwood got me started with Visual Basic. Trucker was the first game that I converted from dos to Windows. It put temporarily highlighted text on the screen. Really only worked with Jaws. Also used something simple to play a sound file. I next wrote games such as Mach 1, golf and casino using recorded synthesized speech and TegoSoft to play the sound files. In 2003 I started the winkit.zip thing with the game menu system using the sapi5 text to speech engine instead of recorded speech. About that time Allen Maynard shared some DirectX code with me which gave me even more features when playing sound files. Dan Zingaro shared code with me that told where at in the sound file you pressed a key. Th at was for the golf and baseball games. When the BBSs were replaced by the Internet David Poehlman put my games on his web site. Later I learned how to write my own web site from OSCAR SOSA's home page program. And of course Joshua Griffith has helped with VB6 code and maintaining my web site. Sorry if I forgot to mention others that have helped. I know that there were. There used to be a blind programmers list with lots of people who programmed in Visual Basic 6. And thinking back, can't forget Willie Wilson and his Blink Link BBS. That was the place to go for accessible games and other programs. There was also all of the FidoNet echoes for Email such as Blink Talk, Blind Talk and NFB Talk. Then the Blind X mailing list. They were general chat echoes, but accessible games were discussed allot on them. As far as I know, people are playing my games on M E, XP, Vista, 7, 8 and 8.1. You know as long as you install the Visual Basic 6 run time libraries. Does anyone know what year and maybe the date Jim Kitchen came out with his first game probably for dos? The first game Jason introduced me to was pcs-games monopoly, followed by any night football and then the pcs games world series baseball game. and then the island of mystery adventure game. But right after that, we got immediately into Jim's games for dos. Every time I play Jim's games it brings back memories of growing up as a kid playing them. I hope someday they will all be recompiled for a later version of microsoft basic so future generations will be able to enjoy them after Jim is gone. Well I think I'll go to Jim's casino and play the craps or blackjack games right now. Re: [Audyssey] Jim?
Hi Thomas, Those things bother me, but even more so things like, I just get things organized on my table. I wake up and the table is gone. People walk in and out without announcing who they are or what they are doing. I got yelled at for not eating my meal. I never knew that it was there. After surgery, I got yelled at for not telling someone that my catheter bag was full. Like how would I know? I got yelled at for smoking in the bathroom. I was not a smoker at the time. I just threw a tissue in the toilet. The last time that I was in the E R I gave the doctor a print out of my medical history. She asked if I ever had pain. I said yes, some times where my aortic aneurysm is. She put her fingers on my back and asked me where. When I said right there, she tickled me. She sent me back for a C T scan. They started to explain a C T scan to me and I said I know. They were like, what you have had one before. I said yes, but not to often because of my kidneys. They were like what? Oh, we will have to wait for your blood to come back to look at your kreatnum level. Sorry, it just goes on and on. But for now Doctor Barns is just recommending physical therapy and wants to see me again in a couple of weeks. BFN - Original Message - Hi Jim, I can definitely empathize. I hate going to the hospital myself, and have spent my fair share of time in them over my life. No matter what they do it is hard to get comfortable since they always wake you up, poke you with needles, take your blood pressure, whatever when all you want is time to have some rest and relaxation. Hi Dark, Sorry, but I can not even share to Thomas the software to create the babble and thread reports. It's a whole system. That is, I bought a tool kit and wrote my own Email program. That program down loads all of my Email into one text file. Then I wrote a program to daily go through that file and copy all Audyssey Email to an Audyssey archive text file. Then of course the program to go through the Audyssey archive file to actually create the babble and thread reports. Re: [Audyssey] Adult Delivery game
Hi Phil, Thanks for all of the ideas. I will have to think on them. BFN - Original Message - Hi Jim, For your adult Pizza Delivery game you could change that to, Pot and prostitute delivery game. For Marijuana, you could specify which Strains of it, 1. Grape Stomper- super heavy, very kiefy sativa strain with a crazy high THC level (usually 20% and above) 2. Golden Goat- a completely unique smelling sativa dominant with a sweet taste and great high for enjoying all the other things that make Colorado awesome other than legal weed. 3. Sage n Sour- If you absolutely have your heart on something Sour. An amazing hybrid that stands for Sativa Afgani Genetic Equilibrium; legend has it that it was an attempt to create the first true hybrid 50% sativa, 50% indica strain. So cross that with a strong sativa and you've got something special for sure. 4. Critical Mass- a fruity tasting high CBD strain that is great for pain relief. Though lower in THC and great for a relaxing effect without too much of a psychoactive effect, the very high CBDs still pack a punch that will leave you locked to the couch for several hours. 5. Presidential Kush- a sativa dominant cross with OG Kush, this is just not to be missed if you can find it. Truly one of Colorado's most unique and pleasing strains for overall effect, taste, smell, and bud density. And for the prostitute what type of toppings to wear, bra, bikini, glitter, tassels or bare. And with your choice of hair colors in black, brunette, blonde and red, or even gray. smiles, Phil Jim I used to be an exterior automotive reconditioning specialist. Re: [Audyssey] A Brief Tribute; was: Pizza Delivery
Hi Thomas, Live and let live is kind of my motto for life in general. I think that I am going to buy a motor home and park it on the boarder of Nevada and Colorado. That way I can legally smoke pot on one end and hire a prostitute in the other end. I'll be broke all the time, but have a huge smile on my face. smile BFN - Original Message - Hi Jim, Yeah, that has been pretty much my outlook on adult entertainment as well. As long as it isn't hurting anyone live and let live. No need to get on a moral high-horse and make a big deal out of it. Of course, I feel that Americans are overly sensitive when it comes to sexuality anyway. I know of European countries where women walk around topless, but do that here in the USA and she'll find herself behind bars for public ludeness and indecent behavior. There are places where there is legal prostitution, but not here in the States. Somehow hiring someone for a few hours for sex is viewed in America as a crime. There are religious groups trying to get rid of pornography, fighting against gay marriage, etc and that just gets under my skin. The problem with all of those groups is they disagree with the concept of if someone doesn't like it they don't have to buy it, don't have to watch it, play it, etc. The mere fact that it exists is reason enough to protest, complain, and make a fuss. Anyway, like you I just feel if it doesn't hurt anyone then people should just learn to live and let live. Cheers! Jim What do a drug dealer and a prostitute have in common? Hi Thomas, Thank you very much for the info. I'm most likely going to stick with Windows and VB6 for the time being. BFN - Original Message - Hi Jim, There are basic languages and tools for Mac and Linux although they are not very popular on those platforms. They don't have Visual Basic 6, as that is a Microsoft only technology, but there is Pure Basic which is similar enough that you could probably learn it were you interested in doing so. I have also heard that Mono now supports Visual Basic .NET executibles so that may also be an option for Basic developers on Mac and Linux. Point being, there are basic options out there, but since that isn't my forte I haven't really looked into it too closely. Cheers! Re: [Audyssey] A Brief Tribute; was: Pizza Delivery
Hi Dakotah, Yes, all have fun. I got my first talking computer in December 1989 and like you, I didn't find much out there for us to have fun with. I stayed at the Cleveland Sight Center for 10 weeks starting in January 1990. While there learning braille etc, I wrote my braille reference guide program. My braille instructor made sure that it was all correct. I also started converting my graphical games to be accessible. At first I had to write Jaws for dos script files to do so. I think that it was in 1991 that those games were on the Henter Joyce BBS. Later I learned how to make the games work correctly with all dos screen readers, and up loaded them to the PC Ohio BBS, which was part of the planet connect system, so the games got shared to BBSs all over the world. Some times though I would also up load them to Willie Wilson's BBS Blink Link. At first it was just all text and some sounds out of the PC speaker. Then Phil Vlasak found the source code for a golf game and added wave file s to it. He showed me how he did it. I found a different golf game and did the same to it. Then started adding wave file sounds to my other dos games. When the BBSs went away, David Poehlman kept my games on his web site. I believe that it was in 2000 that David Greenwood helped me to get started going from dos Microsoft Extended Quick Basic (PDS7) to Microsoft Visual Basic 6. At that time we were using TegoSoft to play the sound files. Later Allen Maynard shared me some DirectX code for playing sound files. Speaking of my original Mach 1 race game, Guy Vermeulen suggested that we have a racing series, so his friend Hugo janssens organized one. He would tell us which track, the difficulty level and how many laps. We had days to run as often as we wanted and then send him our best time. He would collate the results and Email them out. He did that for years. I think about a hundred and twenty five people were part of it at one time or another. I also know and have had fun joining people such as Charles Rivard who play my games such as golf, monopoly, skunk, yahtzee etc in, on line voice chat rooms and phone party lines. That is a really nice and social way to play my games together since I do not know how to write on line games. Oops, late for my pills. Hi Dakotah, Wow, I'm not sure what to say other than thank you very much and I am very glad that you have enjoyed my games for so long. I hope that you don't mind the below. From Dakotah Rickard] dakotahrick...@triad.rr.com Date 05-31-2002 Subject: Hello. This may sound kind of strange, but... Hello. My name is Dakotah Rickard, and I have been playing your games, and enjoying them, for quite a long while. I have always loved games. Who hasn't? Somehow, I'm not sure how anymore, i found your website. I played every game on that site, played until I knew every part. The original Mach1 is still, in my humble opinion, a great racing game. The fact that you have put out so many different kinds of games is amazing. The fact that they're all free is borderline miraculous. You may not remember, but I sent you an email a while back, asking permission to build on a couple of your game concepts if I started making games. It would have been reasonable, expected, that you would be upset, but instead, you welcomed my additions. Your openness and warmth are an important part of what makes you such an admirable person, a fantastic developer. Hi, I have put a new file up on my site. File name; winpd3.exe File size; 9.2 meg In version 3 I fixed the repeated delay slash function key bug. I also added more toppings and sound files. And now from the main menu you can create and edit city street files so as to name the streets. Keep your screen reader running and be sure to keep the same number of street names. Pizza Delivery Earn tips and promotions delivering delicious pizzas from the Pizza Kitchen. The faster you get the pizza to the customer the bigger the tip. The speed limit is always 35. There are three roads that the police never patrol. However there are also stationary things that will cost you time, such as railroad crossings, speed traps and hospital zones. And there are random events that when they pop up will also cost you time. The layout of the city is, Center runs east to west. East from fifty first avenue to first avenue, then west from first street to fifty first street. North of Center the names are names of trees in alphabetical order from Apple to Willow. South of Center they are names of automobile manufactures in alphabetical order from Buick to Volkswagon. Special key instructions f1 repeat the pizza delivery order f2 speak game time f3 speak the amount of time of the current delivery trip f4 repeat the lay out of the city f5 toggle the vehicle rev sound f6 speak real world time To uninstall Pizza Delivery run the uninpizz.bat file. Re: [Audyssey] jim's pizza game
Hi Bogdan, Thank you for all of the ideas for my pizza delivery game. When I was 16 I worked at a car wash. There was a pizza place not too far away. The name was Vine Pizza. They delivered pizza in yes, a psychedelic dune buggy and psychedelic van. He would stop by the car wash and sell me pizzas that didn't sell. Gave me a good price and all. But that is why my pizza delivery game has a psychedelic dune buggy and psychedelic van. I am thinking that I am keeping pizza delivery the way that it will be in version 3, but then maybe make a whole new different adult version where one could do things like go in for drinks, drugs, sex etc where you deliver pizzas. And maybe have shoot outs on the streets etc. Thanks again. Re: [Audyssey] jim's pizza game
Hi Nicol, Sounds like an idea, but I don't think that the scooter would be able to carry and deliver cans or 2 liters of pop. It can just carry one pizza. Maybe the other two vehicles could also deliver pop with the pizza. Like others, I have never gotten pop with my pizza, it is just too expensive from the pizza places. I just got my computer back from the repair shop. It was occasionally making a strange noise. I asked them to image the hard drive on to a new one just in case it was that. They said that the hard drive checked out just fine. The only thing that they found was that the power supply unit was loose. They tightened it up, and so far my computer is running quiet again. The best you or I can do is to know where you can get away with what speed. Well and take a direct route to the delivery destination. Hi Bryan, If you install version 2, your saved game from version 1 should still be good to go. Version 2 does count the number of pizzas that you deliver and it would start at 1 if you resume a saved game from version 1, so the count will be wrong, but you should be able to continue any saved game from version 1. [Audyssey] Pizza Delivery
Hi, I have put a new file up on my site. File name: winpd2.exe File size 8.4 meg. In version 2 I fixed 2 small bugs, added a bit more spoken information and 40 new sound files. Hi Phil, The reason a person gets that message is because they changed or deleted a sound file. Or it didn't down load correctly. Re: [Audyssey] jim's pizza delivery game
Hi Nicol, I am working on version 2 and have added the reminder about where the Pizza Kitchen is like you suggested. Yes, one can find cheaper pizza, like from the big chains like Pizza Hut. And Dominos is hot right now, building a bunch of new ones across the country. But I like my Zeppies. I am pretty sure that a Zeppies extra large, 12 cut, 18 inch, one topping, not on sale, pizza starts at $18.95, plus a dollar to deliver, and $3.00 per extra topping. You know such as extra cheese, mushrooms, etc etc. Zeppies pizzas have a thicker, fresh crust, great tasting sauce, and lots of fresh toppings. So you know the Pizza Kitchen pizzas are more of the gourmet pizza, like Zeppies. grin In my game The toppings are $2.50 on an extra large and $2.00 on a large. And the tips are very generous as long as you get there on or before the time quoted to the customer. But you know, I have never ordered a pizza with 6 toppings like in my game. Re: [Audyssey] jim's pizza delivery game
Hi Milos, The bad thing about getting pulled over by the police is that it takes time and thus the pizza gets to the customer later, and thus your tip is less. Re: [Audyssey] jim's pizza delivery game
Hi Lori, Almost everywhere you can get away with 40 miles an hour, however there are a few stationary speed traps where the mean officer will pull you over for anything above the 35 mile an hour speed limit. And there are three streets that the police do not ever patrol at all, so you can do any speed on those roads. Well as fast as the particular vehicle will go anyway.
