 Hi again gang,
I was just reading the list archives and had forgotten to mention I
downloaded a lot of Jim Kitchen's sappy5 games the other day and seem
pretty addicted to monopoly at the moment. The description says you
can create your own board, but how does one go about this? I want to
try and make an Australian board. (note I wrote to Jim privately but
the email address was old I think).
 Thanks,

 Hi all

I would just like to get your opinion on light cars. I think it's a
real pity that Lighttechinteractive don't want to bring out a light cars
which have a winning point. I wrote them a real kind mail; giving them
all the credit and honour they deserve for making free games. I assured
them that there is features in light cars that really gives me heavenly
excitement, but that it is a pitty that the game goes already on level
21 extremely fast. If only they can bring out a light cars that either
have a winning destination or they can keep the levels unlimited but
they should keep the pace of the cars at least for the first 100 levels
medium. Because from level I think level 9 onwards the cars is coming a
bit faster than on levels 1 to 8. That speed I can still handle, but the
speed the cars is coming from level 21 onwards is really too fast for
me. If Lighttechinteractive can either make the game so that I can
finish it, so that it have a winning destination or they can keep the
levels unlimited but then they should at least kept the speed of cars
from level 1 to 100 medium and then from level 100 upwards they can make
the cars go faster. I would like your opinion on light cars. The stats
I read that was posted to the list were only played in tetras mode. I
only play it in arcade mode. I really like to pick up the item cars and
I enjoy the skit offs and the holes in the road. But I can't actually
enjoy the game if I only have 20 levels of fun. If the cars are coming
at the tremendous speed from levels 21 onwards, it doesn't give me
enough time to use an engine repair. If they only can enable me to
pause the game and use an engine repair before I continue avoiding cars,
because its really impossible to use an engine repair if the cars is
coming at such a tremendous speed. If you guys feel ok with light cars
and you don't think they should make the game more lenient for more
levels, in other words keep the cars' speed medium until at least
level 100, then I'll abide, but I just think that if you feel the same
way as I do, more than one person can approach Lighttechinteractive to
modify light cars. If there's a popular demand to modify light cars they
will certainly do it. But they definitely will not do it only for one
person. They replied on my mail advising me that light cars is a
non-ending game and that each person should play it until he can't
manage the cars anymore. They said they're not going to change the
game, they are willing to fix one bug in the game: When the sound plays
that indicate the start of the next level, they will make the sound a
bit softer so that I can hear the cars coming, also when I use my lazar
cannon. They released a new version of the horse racing game with bug
fixes and new features, which I still have to download. I would
appreciate your opinion on light cars, if you agree with me. If you
 disagree, I won't mind.

 Take care

Subject: [Audyssey] azabat software

 Hi everyone,
I'm not really sure how to put these points across, but I'll try.
I read the news in Audyssey about this new company called Azabat Software
which produces 4 games CD's. I'm interested in the type of games they
produce, one CD has Sudocu and some other games, and another CD has games
which I really like such as Draughts and Backgammon. Here however are my
 problems:
 1. The site doesn't give proper information like how the games would
actually be played. How would you play their Draughts and Backgammon, how
much control do you have over the game, also with draughts, are their
different skill levels? And how is Sudocu? Their are no demos, sound
files,
 etc of these games.
 2. This company, if it's a company making these games, is not well-known.
It
is not a Code Factory, which has a huge organisation like Once as it's
backer, and since you can't test the product, you really don't know about
the quality of the games. I'd never heard, for example about USA games,
GMA
Games, etc, but since they'd let me test their products, I knew they'd be
 good and fun.
 3. My biggest problem is that each game CD costs 50 pounds, a huge amount
of
money here, the exchange rate is 13 to 1. To give you guys an idea, one CD
is more expensive than Terraformers, ($60), or even Time Adventures (also
$60). I've never seen such an expensive games collection, it's nearly as
much as a one month's dissability pension in SA. Even for people in the UK
and the USA, this is quite expensive, since even sighted games on CD are
 around 20 to 30 pounds.
I really like Draughts and Backgammon though, as a real passion, so I'd
consider saving up and buying such a game CD, but I just don't know what
to
do, since I really feel as if I know too little about the product, and if
I
buy it it will really have to be quite a bit of saving, not a throw-away
 amount of money.
Can you guys give me some advice? have you guys played these games? Is
their
 a recording available?
 Thanks
 Ari

 Hello Gamers,
I too was looking to maybe play games on my cell phone. I currently have
Cingular as my provider and one of their agents gave me some info so this
is
what I was told. I called the following:

 disability department @ singular
 Tel #: 1-866-241-6568

I talked to a representative there and this is what I found. Currently
singular has only one model, the Nokia 6620, has a program called talks
 software from nuance corp.

For more info about this software can be found at:

 nuance.com

According to what I was told you have to purchase the phone which will
cost
over $200 and then another $200 for the software. You can probably only
get
this phone thru their disability dept. You may be able to find the newer
model phone Nokia 6680 (I think that is the correct model #) in a local
store but cannot run the software. The phone comes preloaded with version
2
which will not play games. you can go to the nuance website and download
an
update which will play some games. I would definitely give them a call for
 more information.

I am not sure what other carriers offer at this time.

 Take care and happy gaming.

I can see how Monopoly could be played in an FTP room using a mike or even
by sending a text message to the room so that everyone can hear it,
providing their screen reader is able to detect and vocalize it. But I
cannot see any game of Monopoly being played through Email. It would just
take an impractical amount of time. The game should be played in real

 Hi all,
I guess this question would probably be better for Jim, but has anyone
else noticed that the computer player makes huge purchasing mistakes and
doesn't know how to play Monopoly properly?
For example the computer player will land on an expensive green property
but have $11 in cash. It will decide to purchase the property anyway and
morgadge everything to get it. Yeah, that is legal for the game, but is
usually a risky move that will end the player in losing the game soon. I
suppose it would be ok for the computer to try it for absolutely
necessary properties, but I notice it does it over and over again until
it runs out of money and commits financial suicide.
Another mistake I saw was when the computer player decided to unmorgadge
something it started automaticly with the most expensive properties.
Duh, if you are trying to get some houses up unmorgadge the less
expensive properties, and get some houses on them, and once they bring
in some cash then unmorgadge the moreexpensive properties and build on
 them.
In short I hate to be critical, but the computer player for Monopoly 6
doesn't have a head for business at all. I can see several moves ahead
and see when the computer player is making massive blunders and this or
that is going to end up in the computer losing.
When the computer player makes such blunders I am master enough of
computer and board based monopoly to capatilise on the computer's
blunders and make huge proffets etc usually killing the computer even
 faster yet.

2006-08-22 Thread Maria visiting her folks
Hi. no games are playable with talks as far as I know. mobilespeak has a
game called mines I think and it is quite simple but ok to pass the time.
it's like mine sweeper. there are another 3 or 4 games available but I
haven't got them yet so can't tell you exactly what they're like. From
reading the descriptions on the code factory website one is like simon
called tone master. Go to the code factory website and look for cell phone
games for more info. I'm stil hoping that accessible games for cell phones
will be further developed one day.

 Hi all

I'm still a very beginner with text adventures. I'm going totally blank
when trying to solve a text adventure. Can you suggest a very basic
Winfrotz game to start off which only requires a few moves to complete
 the game?

The problem I found with these games where you have a lot of hallways to
go through, I tend to go in circles all the time. How do you guys make a
map not to go in circles? One such game is a fable. The only topic in
the help system in that game is: about the game. I tried that game so
many times and each time I go in circles.

Many of the games' help system only contains walk throughs that gives
you a solution to the game.

It doesn't give the help I need: I need help on how to create a map not
going in circles. Do you think I must go that far as to open a word
document and create a map there? It's a schlep to do it like that. Do
you need to have a good memory to play text adventures?

So if you can recommend a very short text adventure just to start me
 off, I'll appreciate it.

I have the z files that came with Winfrotz, there are 95 games when I
 downloaded Winfrotz.

 Thanks

Subject: [Audyssey] Favour

 Hi,
I'd please like to know if someone on the list can help us out here.
Damien
wants to send me the text editor, but his Microsoft Outlook won't handle
.exe files. He has suggested that, with Skype or MSN, he can send me the
file directly. My problem is that I'm an absolute beginner with both
programs, having only just installed Skype (but not as yet having read the
manual, and for some reason I am still having problems with the connection
from my Mike to my PC, so I don't have a clue how to chat, let alone how
to
do a file transfer), and I don't have, or am fimiliar with, MSN either.
Could Damien Skype or MSN the file to someone who could then email it to
me,
or could someone suggest another way of file delivery?
 Thanks
 Ari

 Hi Maria,
Not to mention the different types of quizes we could make, like trivias
for
each decade, sports, food, travel, etc. Their should really be a way where
we could make our own quizes, because it's really a great game, just a
shame
that half the General Knowledge questions fall out of our knowledge in
some
ways. I never knew the answer to the $100 question that the American
president had one leg and used a whelel chair! Nearly every would get that
one right since they learn such things in school, but for the rest of us
in
our countries, the $100 question should at least be something easy for us.
Another example is when you get questions about TV shows like Full House,
something I've never heard of, or am even able to watch, so it is not as
suitable for us. It would be cool if we could sort of have a geography
quiz
 set or something.

 Hi all,
Is it possible, and easy, to make or add your own questions to Freedom
Millionaire? I somehow need to get a new set, if some of you in other
countries could help, as I find this set very American based and really
not
cool for me, and it would also be cool because I could set up different
sets
for players. You guys won't believe how bad I am! I'm like losing on the
$100 questions sometimes, since I don't know about the American Flag,
penalties of Icehockey, and I had no idea that overtime was called
something
else. Another problem is that their are many TV questions which deal with
shows I can't even watch here! I'd like me and my friends to be able to
compile questions so that I can play with them with questions that we are
 more familiar with.

Well, I noticed I had an old handheld game laying around the house,
don't know the name of it, but it is fully accessible. Basicly, it asks
you math questions like 5+5 and you enter the number in on a keypad much
like a calculator. As you got better the math problems got harder. Was a
cool game and as the problems got harder you were given less time to
solve the problem kind of a cool game.

 Hello all,
I'm sorry if this was asked before, but when I looked back over the
discussion on Mobile phone games, I couldn't find this discussed. Firstly,
as owners of Mobilespeak will know, Mobilespeak does come with a game of
Minesweeper. My real question is that Code Factory have got other games
for
mobile phones, which you can buy in a pack. They also have I think a
colour
detecting thing used with the phone, and a light detecting program. The
problem is that the dealer here doesn't sell these extra softwares, and
when
I go and download the games to try, it won't let me, I need a code to
actually unlock and register them. Has anyone tried the games, and what
are
they like? I also wonder if their are any games playable by wap, sort of
online games? I agree that it would be cool to have so more entertainment
 for the mobile phones.
Actually, talking about Code Factory, all their products are actually
extremely hard to get. I did get KM2000 from Independent Living Aids, but
their's nowhere where you can buy their games online. Another thing is
that,
I actually contacted Once to ask them the prices of the games, and the
shipping to SA was about 3 times as much as the game! We still wonder
whether they sort of made a mistake, but I have asked Sensory Solutions to
see how much they can get the games for, still waiting for the answer.

Not sure if still sold, but try Wallmart. My dad got one a few years
ago. Its like a small fishing rod and real. You hold the handle and
cast it out like the real thing. Then you crank it back like working
the lure. If you get a fish it will vibrate and when fish is brought
back in magic boat. It then tells you type, size and ranking on how
many fish caught for the day or week as in a tournament. You can get
fish strikes, lose them on the way in and also at the boat. The
sounds aren't to bad even when hearing the fish splash on the way in.

Thanks guys, this is the kind of stuff I was thinking of. One I now
remember
seeing, you could sort of clasify it as a game, was a rowing machine, not
really accessible though. The point about this thing was you actually set
your resistance, and for sighted people, you were actually in a race
against
other boats. Even for blind people, their was also excitement, since you
could sometimes hear this shark, and you had to row faster to get away
from
him, or it would eat you and the machine would stop. I also heard of an
excersise bike where you ride a planned route on the screen, e.g through a
maze, or a race, and you had to pedal, look, and turn the handle bars to
 turn the bike.
The problem about hand games, is that people assume that if it talks, it's
sort of accessible. Their are some handgames where you can shoot quite a
lot
 of things before you die.
My friend actually had a game on the Nintendo called Wild Gunman. This
game
was totally accessible! You plugged a gun into the console, centred it on
the screen, and waited. The guy would say 'Fire,' and if you fired first,
you would go to a faster level, but if he fired first, you'd die and have
to
start from the beginning. This was probably to test hand-ear reflex, but
it
was hard, since it somehow knew when you weren't aiming the gun to the
middle, and your hand really has to be steady and you really have to have
nerve to wait tensely before hearing the fire to shoot. I often wonderd
how
fast that game could get, or if it had an ending, since I think the
furtherest I got was I think level 16.

Well, this is actually an idea that's been buzzing around in my head for
 quite a lot of---well---time. It's a rather crazy idea for a game I'd like
to develop or see developed. The title of this proposed game is Mower Man.
I
would have called it Lawnmower Man but that's already a mainstream space
 shooter.
Anyway, today I got to thinking about that again and I went so far as to
write up the first draft of what the game's manual might look like or, at
least, the story part. Here, for yourenjoyment, is what I've come up
 with.

Welcome to the action-packed and generally weird world of Mower Man!
Prepare to take on the role of Lawnmower Jim, a landscaper tasked with the
upkeep of the McClaggen family lawns and gardens for the duration of their
week-long Caribbean cruise. Unfortunately, there were a few rather
important
little details that were conveniently left out of the discussions. Not the
least of these was the deplorable condition of the property, but there
were
a few other nasty little surprises as well, as you discovered the hard way
on your very first day on the job.

It all started when Mr. Johnston, your immediate boss, called you into
his
office with the news that he had a big job to discuss with you.

It's been a while since I've had a decent job for you, Jim, he said,
but I need your help now if I ever have. Curious, you asked him what he
had in mind. Mr. Johnston proceeded to tell you that Cormack McClaggen, a
wealthy businessman, contacted him in search of a landscaper who could
tend
the mansion's lawns while he and his family are on vacation. I want you
to
take this job. Johnston says. McClaggen'll be here in a few minutes to
discuss the terms of the agreement.

Ten minutes later you were seated in the presence of your soon-to-be
employer, a rather rotund man with the Scotsman's brogue and, judging by
the
purple veins around his nose, the Scotsman's taste for strong drink.

I've heard tell yeh're the best. McClaggen declared. When you shrugged
moddestly, the big man roared with laughter. Don't let fame get to yehr
head. He said. That's the mark of a good head on yehr shoulders, that
is.

The details of your assignment were soon laid out before you. Your job
was
simply to mow the rather expansive lawns and tend to the mansion's gardens
for seven days. Yeh'll be paid nicely. McClaggen said. Without a second
thought (a mistake you would soon regret), you agreed.

Your task is not only to mow and tend to the lawns and gardens, but also
to find and eliminate all manner of weeds and other nasty, unwelcome plant
life, some of which has a mind of its own. All this is made even more
complicated by the hoards of nasty critters out to make sure no unwary
strangers come onto the McClaggen grounds and leave again. For starters,
you'll face off against birds that'll either try to peck your eyes out or,
worse, leave a little gift on your just-washed hair or, worse still, on
the
fresh paint job of your trusty Craftsman riding mower! That's not
including
Killer, the McClaggen family's vicious dog, whose name you'll soon
discover
was not given lightly, not by a long shot!
It's up to you to guide Lawnmower Jim through seven levels of nonstop,
crazy action. Along your journey you'll find various special items to help
you out, and trust me, you're gonna need every last one of 'em!
Well, this was an idea that came to me while I was sitting on and
pretending to drive my dad's riding mower (which does happen to be a
Craftsman). To say that it hasn't left me alone since then would be quite
the understatement. Here are some of the possible features of the game,
were
it ever to come to light.
 Realistic sound effects
 Stereo sound (obviously)
 Catchy music
 Quality voice acting
Seven levels, each spanning one day of your work period
Weeds to eliminate with your trusty weed whacker
Hoards of vicious squirrels, bees, birds, bugs and, of course, Killer the
 dog.
Special items to find and use
And much, much more (why the heck does every feature list end with those
 words?)
Well, just thought I'd share my idea with the list. It should give you
an
idea of my brand of humor. Maybe, just maybe, you'll see this game emerge
from the vaults of BPSoft one of these years.

It ain't pretty when the pretty leaves you with no place to go.

  Hi gamers,
I found this quite interesting. I was listening to On Screen from the
BBC
World Service, and their was a feature in their about how people sell
virtual items in multi-player online games for real money! What I mean
  is,
say now some of us were playing a strategy game. I've managed to
  accumulate
many weapons, and huge wealth. I then go onto ebay and put my
game-acumulated wealth up for auction, and a person who wants prestige
in
the game buys it from me with cash! They say their are now game players
  who
deliberately just collect certain items and large stocks to sell for
  cash.
They say it's actually become a million-dollar industry. I suppose
  players
would be furious if the developer reset the server! It's nearly about
as
weird as that guy who's selling land on the moon.

 Hi all,
Is their actually a person who has got Sonic Invaders to work and played
it.
I just get a stupid message I think it just said their was an error
running
the game. I've read from other posts that most people have had errors, so
what's the game really like, how close to Space Invaders is it, and are
 their those cool bonus rounds?
Also, because it's such a large file, is it worthwhile downloading
mudsplat?
Is it something like Troopanum where you line up centred and shoot? How
 difficult does it get?

 Hi,
You need to use the left and right arrow keys to line up the piano note
with
one of the seven blocks represented by the seven bass notes and the drum.
You can also press the down arrow to lower the notes by one half step and
one octave. You need to use different falling piano notes to make chords
 vertically, or scales horizontally.

  Hi all,
I'm trying the Metris game. My problem is that for me the help file is
  very
vague, and since I've never actually played tetris before, I'm not
  actually
sure what to do, and their are no examples. I even get more confused,
because it says I must make cords, but instead of having one instrument,
  it
even has a drum as well, and I'm just not sure what to do when I hear
this
drum and this piano note getting lower and lower (how on earth can you
  sync
a piano note with a noteless drum!)

Re: [Audyssey] Creating a game programming list?

2006-05-03 Thread Maria visiting her folks
Hi. I'm way behind in email so if this thread isn't supposed to be
discussed please forgive me. I think it's a great idea. I've sometimes
thought of learning to programme so I could create a game, but have wondered
if I was clever enough to do such a thing. A list for newby programmers or
those wanting to explore the possibility would be wonderful.

I would personally love the idea whereas we can share ideas and/or
resources
and maybe we can get a on line class set up or something like that.

I like a separate list to talk to others about. I really want to learn but
need a start and guidance in how to learn and what is the best way of
 learning.

I personally think it is a great idea.

 Hi,
This question in particular goes to Raul and Kevin, but I think we all
should be involved in this idea. A while back us developers created a
list for ourselves called the agdev list. However, in it's own way is a
 closed list just to developers.
I'm wondering if all of us would like creating a newby programming list
on audyssey for all those who are interested in wanting to learn how to
program accessible games. It could even become a part of the audyssey
site as a resource center for college students, interested blind gamers,
 etc...
I know Richard has been putting together some stuff similar, and perhaps
we can hammer out some ideas what to do about this?
I feel the current programming thread is a bit off topic for this list
as we really only talk about existing games, but we may want to branch
off to a new list so all can freely talk about the specifics of game
 programming.
 What do y'all think?

[Audyssey] top speed

2006-04-30 Thread Maria visiting her folks
Hi listers.

I downladed topspeed 2 and have been playing with it. Man this game is
addictive. I only have one query. What happens when you win a race? Is
the engine sound supposed to stop? When I come last or second in a race the
engine sound stops and I get the option to sellect another track, however if
I win a race the co pilate says finish but the engine sound keeps playin and
the only way I can get out of the game is to do an alt f4. Is this a fault
in the game or am I supposed to wait for the computer cars to finish?

thanks

Sorry I haven't been contributing much but haven't felt all that
whippy...in
much better mood though so back on the list and back playing games. I
love
STFC and play it 'til my 20 turns run out. I wish I could play the full
version but will patiently wait. I love all ofJim Kitchen's games and
used
to play trucker late into the night. Never figured out how to beat
starmule
though. Love playing monopoly with my friends. The extras are cool.I've
played the Tarzan Jr. demo a ton and hope to register it soon.
Also like Dark Destroyer, Duck Blaster, tourniment and sryth. Sryth I
seem
to be quite addicted too at the moment.
Last Castle I've almost beat but can't kill the king.
Used to play grizzly gultch but lost the cd so there goes that game...but
it
 provided hours of entertainment.
Lastly, allinplay gives me tons of joy. I wish more games had interactive
ability where you can chat over the net and make new friends while you
play.
Wouldn't scrabble be great like that? Or some other game like
dominos.why don't they make dominos to play on the net? Gosh
that'd
 rock!!! I'd play it non-stop.
Also love pong and play it a ton.
 Peace all!

  Hi,
I also go through different moods. Sometimes when I have time to plan
and think and am in to something like that I spend hours at STFC
plotting, planning, each move. Lonewolf is another game I take care in
playing. I will spend several minutes waiting for the right attack
position or moving to attack position and ambush ships.
Other times when I am not in to planning I will launch an arcade game
like Troopenum and just blast ships out of the sky. Dark Destroyer is
another fun one to play when thought is not desired for the game.
I sometimes go through moods where I want something like a board game.
Then I pull up Jim's monoply game and plot, scheme, and build my
financial empire. Quite fun doing that.

 Hi Chris,
You can easily access the ftp site with Internet Explorer. Just enter
the ftp download site in to your address bar in I.E., press enter, and
it will take you there. However, since you are not logged in it will
give you an access denied error. That is fine just go to file, select
login, and enter the user name and password for the site, and you will
 be set.
