[Audyssey] A new sound pack for SoundRTS

2008-04-06 Thread robjoy
Hello all,
Those who want something new for their shiny SoundRTS game, i've merged
the two great soundpacks from (Ken Downey and Brian Smart) and Sebastian
Delit), and replaced the older version of Scansoft daniel with Scansoft
Lee (australian accent).
The pack contains all of the in-game voices except those of the
campaign, and if it will be a great success, i will update it when a
newer version of the game or the packs will be available.
The download link is:

Re: [Audyssey] writing a text adventure

2008-03-02 Thread robjoy
Hello Ari et all,
Inform 7, at least with jfw, is mostly accessible. It has two windows,
the coding area where you actually enter your story mostly in full
english sentences, and the second window is the viewer, where the
program displays it's messages like compile status, errors, help pages,
examples, etc.
Features like the built in inform interpreter, skein, keywords list are
not accessible, but to write your code, to compile and see the errors
it's perfect. You can test your story with an external interpreter, like
Zoom for the mac, frotz, etc.
Inform 7 has an excellent help system, with many many examples and
because the mode you're writing your stories is almost like natural
english, it is extremely easy to learn and use. It's portable, there are
interpreters for windows, linux, mac, even for pacmates.
I've tried lots of if authoring systems which are programming-based, but
since almost every one uses a c-syntax, i did not like them. There is
one however, called JACL, which is extremely easy to learn if you have
basic programming skills (no matter in which language). It is not that
popular, in fact, the author told me i am the only person using it at
the moment, but i hope that will change soon.
It runs on linux, can run on windows under cygwin, and probably on the
mac too.
I say, if you want to write stories easily and you don't know how to
program, go for inform. If you do know, go for JACL, it's much easier
than tads, inform 6 or others.
You can download the Inform 7 environment at:
http://www.inform-fiction.org
and you can get JACL at:
http://jacl.sf.net

Hi all,
I remember asking this ages ago, and someone suggested that, without any
knowledge of programming, you could use inform to write a text adventure,
but that it wasn't too great for screen readers. What I want to know is,
even using programming, what's the most accessible package to write text
adventures in, and what's the difference between them. If you also don't
know programming, isn't there maybe an quickstart guide somewhere for a
text
adventure writer?
Thanks

2008-03-02 Thread robjoy
Hello,
Indeed, blind programming has changed a lot. I don't think so you would
find any good IF-related article, or anything regarding IF on it though.
There is an IF demo, called Cloak. It's like the Hello world in
programming, a very basic story with 3 rooms, 2 objects and a simple
puzzle to solve. On jacl.sf.net you can find the implementation in JACL
format, and also you will find other implementations, like in hugo,
alan, inform 6 and 7, tads, etc. You can check it out and see which IF
authoring system is good for you.

tried Alan and what is it like? I'm asking because I also like it's

there a guide for beginners? I know even for programming, Tom talks about
Safari, but I wanted to also look on blindprogramming, and, I don't know if
it's just me, but the site seems totally weird! I remember in the old days
there were tutorials and stuff, but now there's this weird login screen

Re: [Audyssey] smuglers 3 missions trouble

2008-01-13 Thread Robjoy
Hello,
Actually there is a way to have music and background fx and speech too. All you
need to do is to load up the intro.mp3 and background.mp3 files into a sound
editor such as sound forge, goldwave etc, then lower it's
volume till your speech synth is louder.
As an admiral i think i can give anyone advices if the need arises *smiles*,
feel free to ask.
Dungeons empires, the other game from the same author is really really
awesome, it has far more sounds than smugglers 3, the theme and the different
scenes are simply great. However, i have to say it is not
accessible. You can start a game, choose your scennario, etc, but to play the
game you'll need to click on various graphical items such as a red arrow next
to your army to move them, etc.
I've been looking for an offline fantasy-themed strategy game, which is
accessible, but i found none so far, of course, except for sound rts.

sorry for replying to my own message, but I worked it out.

One of the nicest applications I've seen with Hal's Vf, the music and sound
is also cool to.

I'm now going to buy the game I think, because it is cool, and I'll probably
get the upgrade as well. It's interesting that the author also produces a
fantasy game, if that uses a similar engine to smugler's 3 it might be just
as good, and just as accessible.

Beware the Grue1

Hello Thom,
If you're viewing the map pausing the game'd be unrealistic indeed, but
currently while you're in map mode you can't hear if a monster coming closer to
you. You hear them like they're standing at the same position
where you heard them when you had pressed the v key.

Yeah, i just tested this, and it looks like the run/walk code is failing
to kill Angela when she steps onto a row of spikes. I'll definitly have
to fix this bug. Thanks for the bug report.

Quote
Another one is when you're viewing the map, the game is not paused.

This isn't a bug. The game is supposed to do that. The game is not
suppose to be paused when viewing the map. If you want a monster not to
kill you while reading the map put your character somewhere safe before
opening the map and looking at it.
The pause was removed from the map in Beta 6, because it is more
realistic. In real life if you were reading the map and monsters started
attacking you they would not be frozen while your attention was elsewhere.

Also, when you're typing n for no, then l for load game too quickly,
sapi will still

The simplist answer I can give here is just to wait for the main menu to
fully load before pressing l. There is nothing I can do at this point to
delay the load game option unles you wait for the menu to load
correctly. Though, I may be adding a yes/no prompt to load game as was
requested some time back which may have the desired effect you are
looking for.

Cheers.

sometimes i find that i don't get a warning before the fire. the ledge is

sometimes it doesn't. for instance today, i stepped near it, stepped back,

I also agree with Christopher, also think about it, with some units its
realistic. For example, a knight needs 2 food, because one for his horse, and
one for himself. With catapults, two person needed to move and
operate the catapult. The dragon is a huge beast, so it needs lots of calories,
smile. Mages are using magic, and maybe magic needs calories? Lol. Anyways,
it's good as it is now, in my opinion.

Hello,
You can use the turboes to quickly lower or pull back your hook. Its really
great, because if a fish coming and the shark cyrcles below in the water,
obviously you don'T want to go down and try to repair it. So, you
can activate your turbo, quickly pull back the hook, and then continue playing.
The same for lowering. You can quickly lower it, quickly get the chest, then
pull it back, before a fish catches it.

Re: [Audyssey] sound rts rally

2007-07-04 Thread Robjoy
Hello,
A rallypoint is a place where the recruited objects go. For example, lets say
you want to exploit wood. You define a rallypoint to a gold mine, (with the
town hall, keep or castle), and when you recruit a new peasant,
he'll go to that defined gold mine, and will start mining. It can be useful
when a gold mine is far from your town hall, and you don't want to go to that
coordinate. Also in battles, lets say a battle is going on f2, your
baracks are on a1. The enemy's dragons are really outnumbering your footmen, so
you need to recruit archers, plus you want to send them to the battlefield, so
they can immediatelly defend. You define a rallypoint to
f2, with your baracks, and then every recruited soldier (archers, footmen, etc)
will go to f2.
Hope this helps.

Re: [Audyssey] sound Rts, audio stratogy game

2007-07-03 Thread Robjoy
Hello,
Thanks for the info, this game rocks.
I just started playing today, and i can't quit. Its quite good when i go around
the map with twenty footman, and neutralizing everything, while archers
protects
their back. And if they're in a really big danger, several mages can heal them
immediatelly.
Oh, and while i'm attacking, and trying to get new resources, my peasants build
buildings, exploit gold mines, woods, its really awesome. If i'm in a position
where i'd lost, a dragon flies through the map, and keeps demolishing
everything and everybody.
I recomend this game to everyone who love strategy-based games, it's really
worth to try.
For the king!

Greetings.

Earlier today someone posted a topic on the audeasy forums about an audio
fantasy stratogy game based on he early warcraft games (not to be confused
with the world of warcraft massively multiplayer online rpg game).

the game is a beta version at the moment, has just been translated into English
from the original French, but from what I can tell it works absolutely fine.

It even includes playing against other humans over the net, and various
missions and games against the computer.

All in all it's good, - though I'm stil getting my head around the
navigation and control of multiple units.

You can find it at: http://jlpo.free.fr/soundrts/

Let me know what you think.

Beware the Grue! (which can eat an entire army by itself).

Re: [Audyssey] Urgent! pyracy issue for Shades of doom

2007-06-06 Thread Robjoy
Hello all,
First of all, as you may know, nothing is uncrackable.
As you said in the earlier posts, its quite disappointing, in the developer's
point of view, after the hard work, now somebody cracked it and sharing the
crack. If this happens with us, i hope it won't, that we discover
that someone cracks one of our games (i know, no registerable game yet), we
should take serious steps (like Che and Thomas), but it may won't be
successful. Personally, i don't think so that a company should
just stop developing games because of a few person, who are using it for free.
What about the others who are really enjoying the game, and would like to see
more games, but now they won't, just because of a
cracker? So, personally, i'd begin the long, endless fight against crackers,
with the knowledge, that someone keeps ruining my hard efforts. Yes, true, but
the audiogames market is really, really small, so even if
one developer stops producing games would be crytical. Of course, there will be
a few people who will use a cracked version, but someone who really enjoys the
game, will buy it, just because of respecting the
developer(s) work.
Maybe one good thing, if they're cracking a game, its possible that the game is
awesome? I know this is not true in most cases, but usually they're cracking
something because the product has a good quality. Very
little thing, but still the best thing which can come out of that.

Re: [Audyssey] mud cliant.

2007-05-16 Thread Robjoy
Hello all
If i have to compare gmud with JMC, i have to say JMC is way, way, way better.
And you ask why? Well, i'm not an advertiser of JMC, but here are the most
valuable features.
First of all, it supports scripting, so you can write your own scripts. While
monkey term uses VbScript, JMC supports Vb and javascript, while gmud has no
scripting ability.
If we're talking about scripting, JMC has scripts for jaws only, but that is
not a problem. Window Eyes has an api as well, which you can use, so you can
write a script which sends the mud output directly to WE. If you're not using
JFW or WE, you can still write a script for SApi.
If you run the program, you'll see a few menus, which contains quite
uninportant information, while you're on a mud. This is because most of JMC's
features
are available through commands. For example, you can type .connect
dentinmud.org 3000, and it will connect to alter aeon.
As i mentioned before, it has so much features that i am sometimes confused
what does what. It supports advanced aliases, triggers, and anything you can
expect from a client. Advanced means you can do lots of stuff with them. For
example, your aliasses can include parameters. Lets say you type: get
something from somewhere, to get something from somewhere. You can make an
alias, so you have to type get something somewhere, as it is on most
merc based muds. That alias looks like get %1 from %2. Yes i know, monkey
term supports parameters as well.
JMC has unique features, which i never saw in mud clients. For example, it has
an internal tick counter (mudders know what i'm talking about), which you
can set, and then you can check the remaining time until it ticks. It can
evaluate basic mathematical expressions, with the multi action ability you can
get
different values from a mud's output. Lets say you want to know your hp. You
set up a multi action, which gets it from the prompt. Then, you make an alias
which prints out that variable. Yes, it's that simple.
Of course i didn't mention everything, since this mail won't go through if i
do, smiles. Here is a short list, which the help file also mentions:
Telnet protocol support, Full ANSI color support, Command history, Macro
language, Regular expressions, Hotkeys, Profiles, Log files and RMA and HTML
form, Character substitution, ActiveScripts support, command line
auto-completer, and much more!
In my opinion, that's why JMC is the best client. While all 3 apps are
discontinued (monkey term, gmud, and JMC), JMC couldn't give you more. The
features
can make us ignore the few things which are in the program. For example, the
different messages are not always correct, thus different grammar mistakes,
but since the author is not english himself, it's totally understandable.
I don't think that this is a proper review of JMC, but i was never a good
reviewer, so excuse me if i left out something.
Rob

Hi Nicol and all,
The arrow hit sound is supposed to scarry you, since its not really a cool

When you hear an arrow from either side, you should press and hold the left

that
you can release the left ctrl key.

HI rob and all
I have this thing of certain sounds in games that frightens me. Not
frightening such as being scared, more like a shock. Any sudden loud
sound gives me that sudden fright. Such a sound is the sound that
plays when an arrow kills you. Is it possible to put another sound in
there?
The thing is: I'm busy experimenting with this dugging. Its eems that,
sometimes, not always, just sometimes, you can press control once and
then you are free from arrows hitting you. But that only happens
sometimes and when I expect it the least that arrow hits me and the
sound really frightens me. I remember reading a post long ago where a
member said the sound of bees frightens him in the tj game, so sounds
in games that frightens us is something common.
I'm not the only gamer that gets frightened by sounds.
I must say: I'm very impressed with the yelling sound in the new sod. I
have played the demo of 1.0, I haven't upgraded from 1.0 to 1.2. I
played the demo of 1.0 and then when 1.2 was released I also played that
demo and liked it more. But with 1.0, if you are busy fighting a
creature, your character suddenly gives the death cry, just all of a
sudden and that frightened me that I feel like going through my house'
roof. But with 1.2 there is a slight pause when your character dies
before it gives the death cry. If I'm in a fight and my health drops to
0, I notice my spacebar suddenly does nothing and then a second later I
hear the death cry, so that is really a rocking improvement.
The impact sound when I'm hit is also a nice improvement in sod.
The treasure mania game rocks, its just that sound of the arrow hitting
me that gives me a sudden shock.
Its the same when you are sitting in your room and you are busy
studying and all of a sudden you hear a door banging. That sudden loud
sound can be frightening, isn't it? I would prefer rather a lazar sound
when an arrow hits me. You can keep the sound as it is when the arrow is
on its way to me, I would just like the sound when the arrow hits me
to change.
If its possible to change it, its greatly appreciated, but if it can't
be done I understand.Just a little suggestion I thought of dropping in.
Happy fish ing and treasure hunting

I enjoy this game. I managed to get 12,200 but I didn't reached the top 10
when I attempted to post my score.
A couple of questions to rob. Do I need to hold left control down the
whole time or does only one press of control cause my character to dug?
Can I move my ship, catch fish and collect treasure while I'm in the dug
position?
Spoiler
space
I noticed something: if you press r it toggles your detector, when you hear
the beeping sound, don't move your arrows at all, stay where you are, now
lower your chest until you hear a little boom sound. You have to listen
carefully, it's a short boom sound. Once you hear this sound bring up your
chest and you will collect the chest.
It works like rob said, I also noticed that after a while there is no more
treasures but if I save my game and reload it I get new fish and chests and
this is how I managed to get 12,200.
The game is rocking.

Well, it is possible to record reviews, so they're like screen shots, but with
sounds.
A trailer is a bit different, as it is supposed to show the features of the
game, or to give a demonstration how the game will look like when it'll be
released.
In this game, a learn game sound feature could spoil important things, for
example if you play the game at first, you won't know that the shark can catch

this version fixes more than 5 reported bugs plus gameplay has been made more
realistic:
 1. runtime error 91 after sending score is fixed.

on the dangerous clifs.
 3. We have excluded the Y factor from all environmental sounds in the game
to avoid unnecessary complications.
 4. jumping is now quicker and so an aproaching enemy will not get you above
water whilst trying to jump.
 5. A life won't be subtracted anymore if a fish causes your chain to entangle
itself.
 6. from now on try not casting your net if a shark is under you or he'll have

Re: [Audyssey] light cars suggestion

2007-03-30 Thread Robjoy
Hello Nicol and all,
Giving a suggestion won't hurt anyone, as suggestions are always good.
Here, i have to mention that i'm not the only one person who makes lighttech's
games, i'm just one of them.
And, now back to light cars.
The main concept of the game is to avoid as many cars as you can. If you can't,
that doesn't mean anything, except that you're not that good playing that
game. But, also i'm not that good in technoshock, so its ok. If you have
hand-ear coordination problems, e.g. you're not that quick, it is also okay. We
have
to accept that this game is not for you, and it won't hurt me, nor the other
developers, as everyone has his/her own opinions.
While the fourth track idea sounds really great, it'd be a bit interesting to
add, not because its difficult, but because the game's goal is totally
different. This is
like adding a telepathy option in shades of doom, for those who hate killing
monsters. So, they just can hypnotise the monsters, and just get the items from
them. So, as you see it totally changes the gameplay. Of course, you can do
that, and play normaly, but it'd be never the same.
That's why, while i hate refusing ideas and suggestions, all i can say is try
to do it as the best as you can, and if you absolutely can't do it, then you
have to
uninstall the game. You know, every game can't be good for everyone, someone
will always dislike something in it.
As i said, i'm really sorry to say that, as now i made you stop playing with
lc, but new games will follow, and who knows, in one maybe you'll be able to
get a
way beter score than the best audiogamer in the world, who has to battle for a
few thousand points, like now you do with lc.
Hope you understand my point.
Rob

Re: [Audyssey] light cars suggestion

2007-03-30 Thread Robjoy
Hello Nicol and all,
I like to explain why i did something before doing something, so in that way i
can't ignore other's opinions.
About telepathy, no its not the same.
Telepathy means you have an ability to use your mind in a non-usual way. I
think i could fill a book with telepathy examples and explanations, but
basically
what you can do with it... I guess examples can serve you better.
You can use your brain to: tell someone something, show your emotions, read
other's mind (read is just a virtual thing, as you usually hear their mind or
you
just know it.), move objects, float objects, and much more.
Teleporting, is indeed another thing. By teleporting, you can disappear and
appear somewhere else, teleporting an object means moving it from another
location to you.
While basically this is accepted as non-existent, there are a couple of books
which can proof that it exists in eastern cultures, etc.
I think, we're sailing to another non-audiogame related topic, so better if we
leave it.
Just a final note, google is always your friend.

Re: [Audyssey] Lightech Interactive: A new game released!

2007-03-29 Thread Robjoy
Hello all,
A patch for our games, which supports score posting, will be released tomorrow
(friday).
We discovered several bugs, which needs to be fixed. Also, after the update for
tm1 (which will be 1.0.1), a v1.1 release will be posted soon, with slight
modifications.
Of course, you can ask, why are we releasing a v1.0.1 version, and a week or
two later 1.1, but 1.0.1 is a crytical update, as this bug prevents others from
playing.
So, tomorrow, four updates for the four games (light locater, light cars, tm1,
and blankblock).
I'm really sorry about the bugs, wish we could control them, but we can only
squash them, as nothing is perfect.

Hello,
This is a bug which we discovered a few days ago, and it appears on some

We'll put up a new version soon, which fixes this problem.
Until that, i'll send you the appropriate patch file in private.
If someone else has the problem as well, please send us a mail at [EMAIL

Hello all,
This is not a bug, when you hear the currents on the cliffs, and you know there
is a chest nearby, you have to slow down, and go really slowly, sometimes
by tapping the right arrow, because the chest is really close to the cliffs.
Sometimes you are going too fast, and you just crash on the cliffs, and hear
the chest detector together. That is because the ches was really a few inches
away from the cliffs.
Its really hard to get these, i know.

Hello,
If it hurt your ears, then it did its job pretty well. *Grins*
Seriously, when it beeps, that means you're below a chest. Here, you can stop,
turn of the engine of the boat, also the detector, and hook up the chest.
Of course, you don't need to do it to be able to hook the chest up, its enough
if you just tap the down arow until you hear the hook connects with the chest,
then you can pull it up.

Hello Nicol,
When you're able to hook up a chest, your detector will make a constant
alarm-like sound. When this happens, you have to tap the down arrow until you
hear your hook connects with the chest. Then, tap the up arrow to pull it
onboard.
In the next release, we'll have a sound index, so you will be able to know
which sound is for what.

Re: [Audyssey] hp question

2007-03-22 Thread Robjoy
Hello
A portkey, usually a small object, is a thing which if you touch, it transports
you to another location. They're quite fast, you need to spend seconds to
travel.
Other things, which you can travel with, but takes up more time to do so, are
for example the ones which Phil mentioned before, but they're not portkeys.
They're just objects, which made usable in another way (flying car, for
instance). The most common is the broom. Many witches/wizards use it, because
using a portkey is not that confortable.

change the normal car into a flying car and thus it becomes a portke to

Well, I've spent a lot of time between my classes playing Sarah today. Of
course I can still only play the demo due to a mixup involving my reg key and
user

chapter. I can usually find the broom and the mirror fairly easily, and
yesterday I found
the Rememberall (although I haven't found it again since), and a little while
ago I found an Extendable Ear. So far I haven't regretted putting forth the
money
for the game, and that rarely happens on the basis of one sneak preview, so
that should tell you what a fine job I think Phil's done on the game. And let's
not forget Sarah Alawami's acting. Man I love hearing her say those
incantations! Let's hope Sarah never decides to become a Death Eater. Crucio!
But
anyway, hopefully Phil or someone will be able to help me get the problem with
my reg code squared away. Sent him an Email this morning, 'cuz I wanna
explore the rest of the castle!
