Hi Mohsin, Well, a lot would depend on your own personal skills. For example, you said you know a little programming, but did not specify what language or languages you have experience with, nor specified what platforms you wish to target, etc. I don't know of any tutorials specifically designed for real time strategy based games, but if you know a programming language well enough the basic design of one should come naturally to you. Plus on Linux, for example, there are hundreds of free open source games that could allow you to look at the code and see how they are built. In my early programming days I'd often download the source for a game similar in design with what I was writing and I'd look through its source code to see conceptually how it was put together by the developer. So once you know what languages and tools you will be working with if I were you I'd explore the open source archives for code examples that will help you with conceptual and design issues. Cheers! Hi Mohsin, The way BGT is designed you can pretty much write any type of game you want. That said, there are a few limitations that goes with using BGT. The first is BGT is currently a Windows only tool so Mac OS and Linux support is for the moment out of the question. The other is that it doesn't have good 3d audio support. If you want rich 5.1 and 3d surround sound support you won't get it with BGT. However, BGT can pretty much do anything else you can think of. So if you want to use that for an RTS game go for it. Hi Mohsin, When it comes to which language to use it is largely personal choice, what you feel most comfortable with, and which language is best for the task at hand.For many reasons I do not recommend VB 6 because it is really really old and is not officially supported on Windows 7 and Windows 8. However, C++, Java, and the various .NET languages like C# .NET and VB .NET are fine for what you want to do. Again, this comes back to personal choice and what you really plan to do with this project. Cheers! Hi John Have you ever played a game called Civilization? It wasn't a RTS it was a TBS game. I was thinking of starting off like that. But making it a RTS game. Civilization 3 or 4 I can't remember it's been a long time, but anyway in the game you could go online and download mods and go online with friends that had the game and play with them. I have been learning C++ so I can start programing all the ideas I get in my head. Some will bomb but I know I'll have at least one good idea. Hi James, I would certainly like to. I've got too many irons in the fire, so to speak, to start on one. Still, if I did I think I would like to make an accessible version of Galaxy Civilization. You would start out at the beginning of space flight, slowly upgrade through first space flights, develop deep space travel, and then end up encountering alien races and such. Galaxy Civilization was one of the coolest games I remember and too bad there isn't an accessible equivalent right now. Cheers! Hello Guys ! I have searched alot but couldnt find any other RTS(Real Time Stretegy) games for blind except castaways , Tectical Battle and sound RTS. I used to play a lot of RTS games when I was sighted. the games like, Age of Empire, StrongHoldCrusader, Empire Earth, Rome Total War, etc etc. I really miss those games. can somebody tell me that if there are any other RTS games for the blind available? please do reply ASAP. will be very grateful! Lunimals is somewhat similar to castaways, and you might be interested in towers of war, which has a strategy-heavy design. There's nothing really simlar to sound rts that I'm aware of though. Hi, Sadly, RTS games are one genre with which the blind community isn’t overly familiar. The only other example I can think of is Galaxy Ranger, which is sort of RTS but has a few arcade elements. Lone Wolf isn’t quite what you’re looking for either, it’s a submarine simulation which, though it can be very strategic, isn’t unit-focused. I’d say Time of Conflict isn’t an RTS either. It’s turn-based, though I suppose they can go quickly enough if you like. Still, not quite the same reflexes required. All the best, Zack.
