Re: [Audyssey] Blind Playing Sighted games?

2007-09-06 Thread Charles Rivard
I'm way behind on Email because of PC problems, but, as a matter of fact,
you did state that you aren't a good braille reader. These people just
aren't paying attention or aren't thinking, not sure which. As for
brailling cards, it is better to braille the upper left corner of each card,
then turn the card 180 degrees and brailling what is now the top left
corner. This will prevent having to have the card facing a certain way when
reading. The braille is put on the side that has the numbers on it so that
face up to you is aqlso face up to sighted players. And there is no need to
use dymo tape if you have a slate and stylus or a brailler. Just emboss the
braille right onto the card. As for other games, chess sets that are
adapted for use by blind players are available, as are tactile versions of
other popular games. Most are for braille readers, although some are not.
I know that some sites have already been mentioned, and you might also find
sources through the use of a search engine such as

www.google.com

I apologize for not saying this, but I thought I had..
 I don't read braille.
But I do have a weird numbering system I made with a dynamo labeler..
I was thinking of putting these home made labels on a deck of Racko cards.
If I put them dead center on the card..it should not interfere too badly
 with shuffling the cards.
and won't cover the numbers the sighted person will need to read.
but I do thank you for your offer.

I'm wondering why you would want to purchase a game of Blackjack? All you

Evil Zone is one very awesome fighting game, which is more like a TV show
than a fighting game. But you'll know when to fight.
GameFaqs.com
has plenty of walthroughs for it, and if you can find the manual for the
game online for playstation, then you should be able to navagate the menus
with no problem!

A sighted lady friend of mine asked me what games she and I can play
together?
As I don't know braille and probably will never learn..it seems doubtful I
can go and buy some sort of game that we both can use.
I had considered teaching her backgammon.
I can take the pieces I would use and replace them with either dimes or
 pennies.
This way I would know what pieces were mine and which were hers on the
 board.
I have dice with deep grooved dots in them so I can read the dice when i
 roll them.
So this will do for a first sighted versus blind player type game.

But I would like to know what other options I have to either make or buy?
I know I have alot of computer games I could get her into from the Jim

But we are looking for something we can easily take with us when we

2007-08-27 Thread Robert Montowski
Hello there,
Um, I am not quite sure what you are talking about when you say backgammon
and cover the holes with paper?
but i already have figured out how to use the backgammon set I already have.
Normally a set comes with tiles that are round and sort of flat.
Kindof like thick plastic nickels.
one set is brown/black and the other is white.
I can replace one set with actual coins..either pennies or nickels.
and by touch..very, very careful touch..I can read the board.
and know my tiles from hers.
Man it is going to feel great to beat someone at a game other than a
computer game...grin.
Now I have to practice my dice rolling..
double 6's..o yes..
grin

Shawn,
Right now I think we are going to take the backgammon board on the road with
us.
It is a game I loved playing years back when I still had sight.
Risk was another game I loved to play with 3 other buddies years back.
that would be an awesome game to play online against other blind players if
anyone ever has tht time to program that puppy.
Never thought of connect 4...will have to buy one and see how I can mark my
pieces with puff paint or something like that.
Bought a friend's grand daughter a game called toss across.
loved playing that one..it is like tic-tac-toe but you throw bena bags at it
to flip the tiles to either blank or x or O's.
The girl beat me more than I won..but it was till pretty fun.
I have an idea for a game..even bought another board game to modify it to
use for my idea.
My lady is going to help me put it all together and then I'll see if I can
whoop her butt playing it.
I just wish I knew how to approach Hasbro with this game as I think it would
work well for sighted and blind folks
but I need to make the prototype first to prove it is a good game
but I do thank you for all your suggestions.

yep. i bought that, too, and play all the time with my brothers and
stuff. its fun. one set of coins does have holes, the other set is
just a closed, round coin. and there are little slots on the top of
the board, and there are holes... its hard to explain, easier when u
have a board in front of ya to inspect and touch and figure out and
such.

Subject: [Audyssey] Blind Playing Sighted games?

 Kitchen line of games.
But we are looking for something we can easily take with us when we
 travel.
Thanks in advance for any tips/ideas given.
 Robert

Hi robert.
Well there are a few things.
1. scrabble, you can buy this.
loodo, snakes and ladders.
peg chess of which I have a set.
Probably monopoly except I have not got it.
Thee are a load of board games you can buy check your local blind
foundation for all that stuff.
Beetle.
this is a wood game where you try to put the beetle together.
happy families.
there are braille playing cards, plastic is more durable.
ulsas.
Ok I had to get mum to make the board, but it was made with cardboard and foil.
connect4.
norts and crosses.
domonoes.

The disadvantage being though that these games are big, like huge,
they all come in rather big cases, etc.

Do you have a laptop?
you probably can play the kitchensinc games on a bord at the same time.
There is also the popomatic games, you need someone to tell you whats
actually going on but its a semi half way accessible game to play.
Scatogries is also good, granted, its a children's game but its got
timers and such and makes noise.

There is the 20 questions game you can get on the system, and also the board.
there is the trivia game by jim kitchen, but I suppose you could play
a game like that on the board.

You probably could play risk to, as although you need to role dice
and move counters you have to do strategy and it can be quite good,
never tried it though.
Then there is drafts, never tried that or batgammon even though I
have sets of each.

Hi
How about good old card games. The cards are very portable. You can
either Braille your own or buy them already Brailled.
