[Audyssey] FW: piracy of judgment day

2008-02-06 Thread Darren Harris

Yes I agree that gw micro do seem to be better to my mind. I don't disagree.
Far from it. I like how they especially don't release something until
they've ironed out as best they can all the bugs. I've had 6.1 for nearly a
year and it's great. What am saying is though, is that something like we is
still a lot of money for what it is. Yes I feel like I've got more bang for
my buck for the following reasons:

1. unrestricted amount of installs. I love that feature! Instead of having
to mucl around with pothetic ILM's from jaws I don't have to worry about
that. Especially as I've formatted my machine once in the last 3 months and
now because of hardware issues, I have recently replaced most of the
hardware in it so I've had to have it formatted again. New mobo, CPU the
works.
2. it doesn't matter what ms opperating system I use. Whether it be xp home
or pro, vista home, premium business etc etc so on and so forth. There's
none of this stupidness about having to buy windoweyes pro where as with
jaws that's what you have to do. With jaws there's not just a jaws pro cost
there's also a jaws pro SMA. And yes, there's a cost banged on to that as
well. Yes fs rip you off they really are the microsoft of the blind world
and I don't care who's on here that works for them. Like it.
3. I don't know if it's available in the UK I never bothered to ask but at
least with gw there's a payment plan that people can make use of should they
wish to. That I like and respect probably that above any other reason I
mention here. whilst the product is expencive at least they are aware that
not everybody working or otherwise has the money to make a pc talk by
purchasing something that is more expencive than most computers.
4. you get 3 SMA's instead of 2 with jaws.
They are the 4 main reasons why I think that we is better value for money.
But equally what I will say that it is a lot of money for what it is. Now
there are free screen readers out there, and some of them I've herd from
various sources are coming on quite nicely, I think may end up forcing the
prices of the likes of fs and gw down. Which I think is a good thing.

I'm not saying that gw isn't a bad company actually I don't think it is. I
like it. But even so for those people out there that have families, kids
what ever, lets face it, 700 quid just to make a computer talk and that's
not even talking about a braille display, how would you justify that to your
kids who are young? It's not realistic is it. I don't have any kids. Am
lucky whilst am not single financially I am my own dependent.

Hi there.
I think that gwmicro are one of the more ethical blindness technology
companies.
I was in a situation where I needed more than 40 minutes at a time to
evaluate wineyes, because of an issue with the computer crashing
sometimes whilst jaws was speaking.
I was using an old jaws version and wanted to see if the new version
would fix the issue.
annoyingly, it never crashed during the 40 minute window, I tried
ringing up my local dealer and asked if they had a 60 day timed
evaluation, and the guy proceeded to give me a lecture about how
freedom scifi dont do timed evaluations any more and then he tried to
tell me that the 40 minute demo was enough time to do whatever I
wanted to do. I tried to explain the situation about my soundcard
but he didnt' seem to want to take it in.
This from an old schoolfriend of 16 years, I couldn't believe the
elitest crap he was spouting about how freedom scifi need to make
money, and nothing is free, etc, etc, they must have him brainwashed
or something.
On the other hand, when I tried the same approach with gwmicro, they
were much friendlier, and they sent me a special version of wineyes
which would run for 60 days.
Moral of the story? if you charge $3000 for a product with crap tech
support to go along with it, and make the demo restrictions too
harsh, then you have it coming to you!

If you're a pirate, you're a pirate. You can't say any more than that.
Whether it be downloading mp3's or games or what ever. Games and
software I don't pirate in case I need the technical support. But for
stull like jaws cracks and the like I can definitely see why they are
around. But then again if a company wants to charge stupid prices for a
product then they deserve everything they get. Just because it's a
small market doesn't give fs or gw micro the right to scoop the market
for all the cash they can.

Like I say I don't pirate software because I want the technical support
that goes with it. Also because sometimes cracked versions of software
can leed to all sorts of strange and wonderful problems. Am lucky
enough to have a credit card so I can buy what I want and pay it back
in the manor of time

well I have hal and jaws on here.
One of these I'd like to get the gw stuff to.
Both hal and jaws were funded by various agencies for various courses.
True I have had to pay a bit for upgrades but its not as much as I would have
had to do if I got it all myself.
