Hi,
While Nicol could have been much less rude, and stated her opinion much
better, by saying he rather have had the game be free. End of story. He went
on threatening members which isn't solving anything, he was lucky he could

Hi,
I did the same thing Stephen, I almost closed RS Games because of the
complaints, I did close it, and came back several days later thinking no one
said why they hated GSV, but of course I have received few complaints on
SDM, other then the constructive criticism. I no longer listen to flames, or
anything like that. You can block them damien... And know GSV is going
open-source, so it turned into a learning project for others of what not to
do :)!

And don't leave Damien, they most likely complained just for you to lower
the price...
And it wasn't like people didn't like a particular thing, they hated every
last thing...

also, try to place a rule to auto delete there emails, or a rule to place

Re: [Audyssey] I am really worried, we could lose another game dev again

2008-02-16 Thread Bryan Mckinnish
Hi all.
This sounds like something similar that happened to me a while back.
WHen I first started developing games, they were simple games to play. Some
people said I had no talent.
It got me down for a couple of months, but I recovered from that. It sounds
like the same thing here.
I'm still developing games, even some simple ones, but I'm building up to
complex ones as I continue to grow in programming skills.
I'm not sure if this is Damien's first or second game in vb, so I know what
he's going through at the moment.
That's just my 2 cents on the matter. I hope Damien keeps on making games
and stuff.

Actually, if someone posts privately to someone else, we, the mods
cannot do anything about it. As long as it's off list, we don't have any
say or any control over what goes on in private e-mail.

Jeremy Gilley wrote:
 Damien,
i would email that post to the mods, especially if that email is harresment
and especially even more if that person has been put on mod status, and they
know that they wont be able to reach you through the list.
also, try to place a rule to auto delete there emails, or a rule to place
there emails in the deleted folder.
I am sorry people are going to such extreems about this issue.

2008-02-16 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Stephen,
As someone who has litterally been there before I know what Damien needs
is some time to himself and down time. When the community lashes out as
they are now it is often best to not be active until things die down.
I don't think Damien should go yank his web site down and totally leave
the list, but I do think all he needs to do is stay away from his email
for a day or to. Perhaps put a few nasty peoples email addresses in his
junk filters.
Believe me when I was being verbaly abused by a few members of this
community a while back over the time it is taking to complete Monte and
Raceway I eventually just put their email in my filters and off to the
trash they went. I told them nicely that I would get it done when I
could, and when they cussed me out I told them I was blocking them as I
would not respond or argue with unreasonable customers.

Re: [Audyssey] I am really worried, we could lose another game dev again

2008-02-16 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Damien,
Rest assured Raul and I are attempting to moderate the flaming parties
on our end of things. As far as what to do on your end I would try
adding certain abusive critics to your junk mail controls and off to the
trash they will go.
As a game developer myself I have seen both the good and bad this
community has to offer, and generally the community as a whole isn't
bad. There are however 5 to 10 people that can really get out of control
and flame, bash, or complain no matter what you do. In such a case what
I did is simply add them to my Thunderbird junk mail controls and if
they have been writing me their emails are going strait to the trash
without me looking at them. I haven't the time or the energy to deal
with being flamed by immature, rude, or very unreasonable users.
As a game developer you really need to have two important skills. One
you need to have a thick skin, like a force field, and let complaints,
attacks, etc bounce off of you like you are made of rubber. Second, if
it gets to be too much to handle just let them know you are in control,
and are not going to take it any more. Just block their emails, set up a
filter rule of some kind, and goodby trouble maker. It is your choice
weather to tell them you are blocking them or not. Though, it is funnier
if you don't so they send a billion emails that goes into some spam
trapper, junk filter, and ends up in the trash. Hehehehe.

Re: [Audyssey] I am really worried, we could lose another game dev again

2008-02-16 Thread Ryan Smith
Hi,
Yeah Damien just take some days to yourself, you made a good game, and be
proud of it. Just add it to blocked users, or whatever you use... I went
through the same thing, flaming emails, they are all blocked, and if they
need support, thats there problem now, there blocked and thats final.
ThunderBird is great, I was actually considering writing an autoit script
for general POP to block any words, which includes email. I based it on a
since this community is so small, that if 2 people hate it, everyone else
does. Thats not true. Those 2 specific people will always be in my mind,
and I forgive them, but it's not forgive without forget :). I've been in
this community for about a year, and have seen black-hats, crackers, mean
people, the whole lot, and I never spoke to them again. There blocked. I
mean, I probably can list those people right now, and they just complained
on gsv, which cost them nothing... So what I'm trying to say is, just keep
making games, we're here for you, and some people, who feel using aggressive
and threatening messages will solve the problem deserve to get there
messages moderated. There's a way to express anger, and publically isn't
necessarily the answer.
I thank you.
