Re: [Audyssey] Inquiry on Inspector Cyndi games (Eleanor Robinson)

2012-05-06 Thread dark

Hi Eleanor.

while I certainly appreciate that developing games for the Iphone is
important, heck, I'm probably going to get one myself (lots of gamebooks!),
i do think it'd be sad if people missed your pc games for want of a demo.

While the games page describes them, those descriptions could equally apply
to interactive fiction or gamebook titles (yes I know your page mentions!
video and sfx, but there's a big difference betwene mentioning and
experiencing).

There are mistery works of standard if, and at least a few mistery gamebooks
on the net I can think of, - albeit usually with a more supernatural
theme like Bodies in the docks on fighting fantasy project.

thus, from point of view of a potential customer, there is a certain element
of why should I buy this game?

that's why malinch, for all I rather dislike their actually rather
irritating promotional style and confusing website, have done at least one
correct thing in selling works of interactive fiction, offering either full
scale demos, or a 60 day money back guarantee.

Your games however have imho much more to offer even someone who is used to
playing If and gamebooks than malinch's (the fact they're a third of the
price and also that you don't beat your customers over the head with self
congratulations helps a lot too), and it'd be nice if that was taken
advantage of.

I may be able to have a bash at doing a recording myself, but I don't make
promises at the moment, sinse I still have a thesis to finish and a couple
of other bits of recording to do (for phil for instance), though i will do
if I can.

I do however think a recording would help hugely, even just a standard mp3
file showing off a couple of rooms, talking to various characters with the
menue system, and maybe a quick look at how the solution submission works.

all the best,

Dark.

Hi Dark - Thanks for the suggestion. John and I have had some
conversation about using HTML5 on the website to produce demo-like
trailers which would show just what you are talking about - the game
features such as the videos, the sound and music and so forth. If that
does not work, we will get back to you regarding the sound recording.

The HTML5 stuff would not take as long to do as some other alternatives we
have talked about. We do want to minimize the time taken away from
working on the IOS stuff though.

We certainly appreciate your offer to do a recording - if and when you
get a chance - obviously with what is on your plate, you can't make any
promises. We would be happy if you or someone else on the list did a
recording of a portion of an Inspector Cyndi game as you described in
your post. You could put it on the Audio Games website and we could put
a link to it on our website. One reason we haven't done that type of
thing previously is that since our games are not just for blind and VI
gamers and we didn't think that it would be appropriate on our website.
We still are thinking that we will try to do something like a trailer
demo on our website, but it may take a while.

Anyway we certainly are open to whatever works best for people.

Hi Eleanor.

i'll have a go if I can, I've been meaning to do some more audio reviews
anyway, though at the moment things are rather hechtic due to various other
matters.

Even if I can't however, it'd be great to see an audio ddemo.

one other idea you might considder is a straight up utube trailer which
would obviously showcase everything about the game. lots of game devs are
using them as promos at the moment, indeed Shard workshop has been using
utube to offer audio of their zero site game and now the upcoming extention
right from the start.

All the best,

Dark.

Mike asked - any time frame for the iPhone? Mike the only thing I can
tell you is that we are starting to look at how to develop in IOS. This
means it will take some time before we can start putting actual games up

before we will have some of our current games re-coded for IOS.

If our company was bigger and had more programmers we might be able to

get stuff out through.

Hi eleanor.

If sapi won't work with the demos, might it be possible to reccord some
gameplay footage? I'm thinking here particularly of the inspector cindy
games, sinse to my mind what really sets them apart is the acting, writing
quality, music and ambience, and those are things that just can't be
explained by a webpage, and as I said, it'd be extremely sad if people
missed playing your games because of a lack of demos, though to an extent I
can understand it, and providing official audio demonstrations would at
least show off some of the best features of the games, namely their music,
sound and interface.

[Audyssey] Inquiry on Inspector Cyndi games

2012-05-04 Thread Eleanor Robinson

Hi gamers

The reason we stopped the demos was when we updated it to the SAPI voice
we ran into some changes that had to be made to continue the demos.
Some of the more knotty tech support problems were associated with the
demos as well. So we decided to put them online. The problem is that
we have a very narrow bandwidth and so far new development has bumped
redoing the demos. It is still on the drawing boards, but we really
want to work on iPhone and iPad games, as well as finishing the ones we
have already started.

Dark and others are right that the games do have the same outcome. But
the scoring is based on correctness and efficiency. So there is
re-playability. Each story is different, but shares some characters.
You are the detective who solves the case.

One Inspector Cyndi game comes with the Perception GameBook, along with
a Tyler Game, a Woople game and two Woops games, for a total of 5 games.

All of our games can be found on www.7128.com

Do you have to ask the characters all of the questions or are there

How do I find out which ones to ask?

Hi Michael,

What questions you ask and find important and unimportant is a
judgment call. When you play the game there is a dialog that pops up
and you are prompted to ask certain questions. You will find ifyou ask
one character something that relates to another character you can go
back to the prior character and get more information on that subject.
However, the only way to know if a question is important or not is by
asking them.

Cheers!
