[Audyssey] replay value, was:RE: audio game question

2009-11-20 Thread Che
Hi ya,
Personally, I think the multiplayer games out there offer the best replay
value for obvious reasons.
Sound RTS is hard to beat when playing other humans, especially some of
the more well thought out maps.
Entombed is going to be amazing as well, Jason has done a great job on
this one, and I hope the audio game community supports his efforts when the
game is released, we need more well thought out titles like this.
And although I am of course biased, I think Rail Racer offers amazing
replay value, given the career mode, multiplayer tournaments, and the
ability to create and share your own tracks. I won't kid you, it takes
practice to get good at it, but its very rewarding once you start getting
the hang of it.
  Later,
Che

Subject: [Audyssey] audio game question

Hi, I have been into audio games for a while, but recently have been
thinking. I have seen many audio games, but what I have realized is
that most or all of these audio games have vertually no replay value.
Are there any audio games out there that people could recomend that
someone could play multiple times without the exact same reaction from
the game? I don't mean any offense to the audio game developers on
the list, I am just wondering about something that has been bugging me
for quite some time now.
Thanks, Matthew

I'd actually agree, even about railracer ;D.

As I said in my long woffle about game engines, any game which includes
user created content has already great replay potential, and that goes for
sound rts maps too.

thankfully though developers are getting very good at this, so even a
game intended as a fun arcade smasher like Q9 has the fun of random enemies
to keep things interesting.

Re: [Audyssey] replay value, was:RE: audio game question

2009-11-20 Thread Scott Chesworth
The interesting thing I've found with Rail Racer is that if I don't
play it for weeks at a time, the next time I fire it up I have a
truely horrible few runs while I get the knack back. It's got nothing
to do with remembering controls or tracks, it's more like tuning back
into the balance so you can do turns and jumps accurately without
overthinking. That in itself adds replay value for me, because
there's always a few awkward races when I first pick the game back up
before I can crank up the music and really enjoy it.

It's bizzarre, makes me feel like that gaming session was actually
slightly productive. It might just be specific to me, since even at
my best I'm not as good as I'd like to be, but it's something I've
never seen from any other accessible title.
