Re: [Audyssey] virus alert! on list

2012-11-18 Thread Trouble

FYI.
It was probably one of your friends that did that, because no virus
or email hacking would not even bother doing something like that. But
your friends at school would.

Viruses either send out email, attack web sites, or try to crash your computer.

Since this has never happened to me before, I'm curious to know how or
why my account was hacked. I, too, didn't think it was likely for that
to happen to a Gmail account, but I guess I was proved wrong. Does
this mean I have a virus on my computer that I should be looking into,
or do email accounts get compromised randomly sometimes? I'm not
noticing any weird behavior otherwise from my computer, nor has
Microsoft Security Essentials alerted me of any problems, so I'm not

well my friend got spam sent through his account.
his account was not hacked, there are services where you can mimic
someone elses email address.
All you need to do is trick the recieving email program that you are
another address.

If you are scared you can always change your password.
As long as you keep your antivirus and windows and other programs up
to date and your protection on then you should feel better or rather
be as safe as you can be.

If you still feel scared, you can reformat every few months.
It won't do anything really but it may make you feel happier.
Ofcause it goes without saying if you use any ms account they are
always targeted.

gmail is really good from the get go.
You may need sight to set up the account due to recapcha being a real
pig but once done its really good.
If you are that scared put the 2 step varification which sends codes
at your phone whenever you want to access it.

you will need passwords for each app though.
If you are really paranoid like me, don't link anything to your gmail.
I have aol for aim, and my printer company for support but twitter I
don't have same with facebook, I have an apple account but my email
is not listed.

Hi Lisa,

No it wasn't you. The original message that kicked off this topic was
from Orial Gomez's account. We have isolated that account, and are
monitoring it for any potential spam messages. In addition it appears
Desiree's account was hacked and we did get a couple of spams from
there as well, but it is no big deal to filter out that stuff as we
are on it and are monitoring the source of the spam messages.

Re: [Audyssey] virus alert! on list

2012-11-16 Thread Shadow Dragon
Looks like yours got hacked as well, but it was actually Oriol's account
that sent the message. I translated the message from spanish using google
translate. Not exactly certain what it was, but it had ogomez92 in one of
the links, which is the name he goes by on twitter and some other places. So
it may not have been spam but something that was unintentionally sent out,
an invite of some kind maybe. It was from a company supposedly based out of
england, so who knows.

Oh no, I think it might have been me whose account was hacked...I'm so
sorry that this happened, I know it's not my fault, but I feel
terrible about it. But I just logged into my email account about 10
minutes ago and saw that my inbox was flooded with all these spam
messages that I had apparently sent out to all the lists I'm
subscribed to, along with everyone else. So I'm doing my best to clean
up the damage, I've changed my password, and I hope that takes care of
it. Again, I sincerely apologize.

Hi Dark,

I see. Well, that happens not to be the case. Spambots can not just
sign up and send messages as we, the Audyssey moderators, have to
approve first time posts before they can be approved for unmoderated
posting. As it is the message that was sent apparently hijacked a
legit Audyssey member's address rather than hijacking the list. We
are still investigating, but the source was a valid Audyssey member
who has been a member for a long time without this sort of thing
before. We don't blame the Audyssey member in question, but do believe
a spambot or similar hijacked his address.

Cheers!

Hi Dark and all,

We'll look into it. However, I want to point out that the list is
configured to strip attachments from outgoing posts so no one should
be able to contract a virus from the list itself.

Cheers!
