RE: [gatortalk] FW: [gatornews] AJC.com: Mr College Football

2010-04-13 Thread Rob Alexander
Let me just point out that 'improved' is a relative term. You wouldn't have
to be very good to improve on Bowden's performance in the past decade. Add
to it that there were major problems between the coaching factions and how
much that can hurt a team, and I don't think it's really a stretch to say
that coaching is likely to be improved at the SOW this year. The idea that
they may be competitive with us this year, however, is a big stretch.

Disagree totally that coaching has improved. Bimbo is a complete joke. He
got all the credit at LSU and they weren't that good. He has been in effect
the head coach at SOW and they aren't that good. Recruiting is not good,
they may have a top ten ranking but that is twisted. No recruiting on the
lines, so they will still have the turnstiles protecting the QB. Until they
get that fixed, they can have all the top rated safeties and LBs they want,
they still won't win.

With Bimbo as head coach, it will help Miami more than you know.

If Jimbo was the de-facto coach anyway, I wonder how coaching would be
improved.

Also, the semis had a better recruiting class but, they were 10th
nationally. That's really not that great considering they're one of the
Florida big three in one of the richest recruiting grounds in the country.
So, mediocre coaching, mediocre recruiting. that equals ACC champs!!

One more thing about Fisher before I let this go. He has produced some decent
college QBs. Not great QBs, but pretty good. Until he proves otherwise, that's
his level of competence.

 1. SEC East opponents who are expecting-or hoping-for a huge drop off at
Floridamay be disappointed. Of course Floridawill not be as good this season
as the past two seasons when the Gators went 26-2. The personnel losses-QB
Tim Tebow, CB Joe Haden, DE Carlos Dunlap, LB Brandon Spikes, TE Aaron
Hernandez-are just too great. But Floridaclearly has its quarterback in John
Brantley, who completed 15 of 19 passes for 201 yards in the spring game.
The Gators obviously have a lot of guys who can catch the ball like Andre
Dubose, a big time recruit who sat out last season after hamstring surgery,
Carl Moore and Chris Rainey. They have two options to run the "Tebow
package" in Trey Burton and tight end Jordan Reed. Yes, there is a lot of
work to do

The problem they've had the last several years and continue to have is that
their classes are top-heavy. They get a few great players, but no depth behind
them. This past year they got Jeff Luc, Lamarcus Joyner, Christian Jones, and
maybe a couple other players, but no one else all that awe-inspiring. The year
before they got Jacobbi McDaniel, Greg Reid, Demonte McCallister, but no one
else. I could go on and on through the years.

Add in that their offensive line recruiting in general has been atrocious with
the offensive scheme not matching the coaching or the players (Fisher runs a
pro-type system, but Trickett coaches and recruits for a spread-type system)
and you have present day F$U.

They'll have to do a lot of upgrading on the OL (regardless of how many
magazines rate them as the top OL in the country) and DL before they get much
better.

Thanks for the e-mails and information. It's too bad that they'll become
competitive again.

I see that Haggins is still there. He'll probably continue to berate players if
they fail to injure an opposing QB. Real scum.

Make sure to use plenty of soap in that shower. Maybe some disinfectant as well.

There was a huge rift and constant fighting between the "old guard" and the
"new guard".

Old guard being Bowden, Mickey Andrews, Amato,

New guard being JImbo Fisher and the guys he brought in.

When Bowden retired, and Fisher gained control - he fired Andrews and Amao (as
expected) and brought in Mark Stoops as defenvise coordinator

Like I said - their recruiting is improving

Give them a couple of years to get their system in place

Then they'll start competing again

Sorry, Dawg fans. But Gators look like the class of the SEC East again

9:04 am April 12, 2010, by Tony Barnhart

It was a busy weekend of Spring Football. So what did we learn?

Yes, there is a lot of
work to do on defense. But when you look at the schedule, Floridawill be
favored in every game it plays except for an Oct. 2 trip to Alabamaand
possibly a Nov. 27 trip to Florida State. The rest of the SEC East has even
more issues than the Gators. Somebody in that division, like Georgiaor South
Carolina, is going to have to step up. Floridais coming back to the field
this season, but not that much.

2. It's official. Tennesseeis building for the long haul. Dave Hooker of the
Knoxville News-Sentinel made this point over the weekend and I agree with
it. The departure of quarterback Nick Stephens, who was losing his first
team snaps, is further confirmation that new Tennesseecoach Derek Dooley is
in the process of changing the football culture back to something more
stable and reliable than the blip of the

I am not sure that F$U will give him enough time to be competitive with
Florida. As my feeble mind remembers, Bobby was given quite a few years to
beat Florida, but I doubt that Jimbo will get anywhere near that. In fact,
I would say that he has at most four years to bring them up. I am not sure
he will be able to do that in four years as long as Urban Meyer stays at
Florida.

For many years we had to try to compete with F$U with the leftovers from F$U
and Miami's recruiting classes. Now F$U finds themselves in a similar
position.

Thanks for the e-mails and information. It's too bad that they'll become
competitive again.

I see that Haggins is still there. He'll probably continue to berate players
if they fail to injure an opposing QB. Real scum.

Make sure to use plenty of soap in that shower. Maybe some disinfectant as

There was a huge rift and constant fighting between the "old guard" and the
"new guard".

Old guard being Bowden, Mickey Andrews, Amato,

New guard being JImbo Fisher and the guys he brought in.

When Bowden retired, and Fisher gained control - he fired Andrews and Amao

Like I said - their recruiting is improving

Ever have one of those days where you are so filthy dirty that you don't even want to get in the shower - but the hose seems like a better option?

Think I better go out in the yard, strip down, put the hose end sprayer on "jet", and try to wash all that filth and nastiness off.

Then I can go jump in the shower with antibacterial soap.

Its probably more of the "title  game".  Where they give you some big title to make you sound important.

Kind of like everyone that works at a bank is vice president of something or another.

Does it make sense to have the QB or WR coach specialize in passing plays?

Does it make sense to have the RB or OL coach specialize in running plays?

Or have the DL or LB coach specialize in stopping running plays?

Hasn't this been going on for decades now - without special titles?

There was a huge rift and constant fighting between the "old guard" and the "new guard".

Old guard being Bowden, Mickey Andrews, Amato,

New guard being JImbo Fisher and the guys he brought in.

When Bowden retired, and Fisher gained control - he fired Andrews and Amao (as expected) and brought in Mark Stoops as defenvise coordinator

Like I said - their recruiting is improving

Give them a couple of years to get their system in place

Then they'll start competing again

Getting rid of that evil, disgusting, lyin, cheatin, back stabbin, SOB Bowden was a first step for FSU.  They are not back yet - but took the first step.   They only went 4-4 in the ACC last year!  Once they get back to going undefeated, or only losing one ACC game - will they beccome a contender again.

It was a busy weekend of Spring Football. So what did we learn?
 1. SEC East opponents who are expecting—or hoping—for a huge drop off at Floridamay be disappointed. Of course Floridawill not be as good this season as the past two seasons when the Gators went 26-2. The personnel losses—QB Tim Tebow, CB Joe Haden, DE Carlos Dunlap, LB Brandon Spikes, TE Aaron Hernandez—are just too great. But Floridaclearly has its quarterback in John Brantley, who completed 15 of 19 passes for 201 yards in the spring game. The Gators obviously have a lot of guys who can catch the ball like Andre Dubose, a big time recruit who sat out last season after hamstring surgery, Carl Moore and Chris Rainey. They have two options to run the “Tebow package” in Trey Burton and tight end Jordan Reed. Yes, there is a lot of work to do on defense. But when you look at the schedule, Floridawill be favored in every game it plays except for an Oct. 2 trip to Alabamaand possibly a Nov. 27 trip to Florida State. The rest of the SEC East has even more issues than the Gators. Somebody in that division, like Georgiaor South Carolina, is going to have to step up. Floridais coming back to the field this  season, but not that much.

2. It’s official. Tennesseeis building for the long haul. Dave Hooker of the Knoxville News-Sentinel made this point over the weekend and I agree with it. The departure of quarterback Nick Stephens, who was losing his first team snaps, is further confirmation that new Tennesseecoach Derek Dooley is in the process of changing the football culture back to something more stable and reliable than the blip of the Lane Kiffin area. The coaching staff pretty much knew Stephens was not going to be the guy, but at least he had played. They could have given him enough snaps to keep him in the program for insurance for this season.

3. All Clemson can do is wait for June: This much seems pretty clear after Clemson’s spring game on Saturday. If Kyle Parker returns as the Tiger quarterback, Dabo Swinney’s bunch can win the ACC Atlantic division for the second straight year. Despite a practice schedule interrupted from time to time by his commitment to the Clemson baseball team, Parker completed seven of 15 passes for 75 yards in the spring game. The numbers don’t tell Parker’s story. His presence does. Parker is expected to have a big decision to make after the Major League Draft in June. If the up-front money is good, does he walk away from college football and turn the job over to redshirt freshman Tajh Boyd? Boyd, who was once committed to Tennessee, is going to be a very good quarterback. He just isn’t ready right now.
