Given its agenda, I'd expect the Group to be focused on concrete things, whether that's making it easier for new Participants to find their ways around the OpenJDK community, contribute or provide feedback to OpenJDK Projects, etc. rather then on talk about kicking doors. ;) OK, that makes sense, but it's a fairly limited ambition when compared with the scale of the problem. If the OpenJDK project is open and inviting, then people will surely participate. Java is important, and IME many people like to work on important projects. If they're not participating as much as we'd like, then the lack of a group to show people around is not, IMVHO, the most important reason. Having said that, onboarding has been a problem ever since Java was first freed, and anything to help with that is a good thing. Andrew.

Vote: yes. Uncalled-for advice: Unlike other groups/projects, keeping to a schedule of quarterly reports seems appropriate. -Doug On 12/11/2013 08:51 PM, mark.reinh...@oracle.com wrote: Governing Board Members, On behalf of Dalibor Topic I hereby propose the creation of the Adoption Group, with Dalibor as the initial Lead. The Adoption Group would bundle and aid efforts to collaborate on OpenJDK Projects, lower the barriers to contribution, and bring JDK development into the heart of the Java community. Dalibor Topic lives in Hamburg, Germany, and works as Principal Product Manager for Oracle. He is an OpenJDK Member, Group Lead for the Porters Group, and Project Lead for the JDK 7 Updates Project in the OpenJDK Community. For the initial Group Members I would like to suggest: * Martijn Verburg * Steve Poole * Rory O'Donnel * Daniel Bryant * Mani Sarkar * Edward Yue Shung Wong * Mario Torre * Ben Evans cheers, dalibor topic -- Oracle http://www.oracle.com[1] Dalibor Topic | Principal Product Manager Phone: +494089091214 tel:+494089091214 | Mobile: +491737185961 tel:+491737185961 Oracle Java Platform Group
