A hearty agreement. UPS is light years ahead. I dealt with DHL when they
were Airborne and they were very problematic, not just with the geckos
but every aspect of business like billing, customer service, etc. In my
forced occasional dealings with them lately I find they are much the
same, bottom of the barrel!

Thanks Jodi, Marcus, and Julie for the info! I too have been using UPS
for a few years and they have performed well, but I just like to look at
my options now and then. I found it difficult to find info on DHL's
website, so wasn't impressed there either.

Re: [gecko]DHL restrictions?

2006-09-18 Thread Lance woolen
The first shippment that I sent with UPS was just awful. They sent it the wrong
direction, then sent it back to town where it sat around awhile, before
somebody got around to seeing where that big box marked Nextday might be
going to. Thank god I took extra care and packed everybody very well but it
took days to deliver it a couple of hundered miles and cost a fortune. My money
is still spent with USPS where I have had the best luck for the best price.
Just my 2 cents

[gecko]Re: gecko digest, Vol 1 #1128 - 8 msgs

2006-09-18 Thread Daniel Scantlebury
I can't say enough bad stuff about DHL, but I've had trouble with all of them
over the years.

For instance. I ordered some snake tongs before my trip to Sulawesi last fall
at the last possible moment. They were garunteed the day I left before noon.
That was fine, because my flight out of Austin wasn't till 6pm. When 3 o'clock
rolled by and there was no sign I started getting nervous. I called them up to
see what the deal would be, and was promised a call back with an answer in
15min. 45min later no call. Naturally, I became aggravated. When I called
back and explained the situation - that I was leaving for Indonesia to collect,
among other things, venomous snakes, and was in dire need of my tongs which
should have been delivered hours prior - they told me there was nothing they
could do because my package was in a local facility. When I asked for the
facility's number the woman's answer was it has no phone number. Yeah right.

It was around that point that I lost it. I explained to the supervising manager
they had several options. They could give me the phone number so I could make
last minute arrangements; they could foward the tongs to an address in Jakarta;
they could arrange for the package to be delivered to the airport in Austin; or
they could arrange for my dead body to be shipped to my grieving parents in the
event I recieved a fatal strike because I didn't have tongs to safely capture a
snake.

They chose to meet me at the airport.

 Hi all,

I'm thinking of opening a DHL account -- do they ship geckos? Do I need
a special dispensation? Anyone have any other info?

 Thanks,
 Melody
