Re: [VOTE] Release Apache Juneau 6.0.0-incubating-RC3

2016-10-17 Thread Justin Mclean
Hi,

+1 binding, but there's a few things that need fixing for the next release.

Missing source release at [1] and this source release(?) at [2] contains jars
not source. So assuming [3] is the source release - can you confirm this please.

I checked:
- name contains incubating
- hashes good, signatures OK
- DISCLAIMER exists
- LICENSE is likely to be missing a few things (see below)
- NOTICE is good
- All source files have ASF headers
- No unexpected binaries in source release
- Can compile from source

The LICENSE may be missing these licenses:
- These files[5][6][7] are copyright Mark Pilgrim(?), do you have permission to
use them? Looks like it may of come from here? [8] IF so I think that is
covered by a BSD license [9]?
- Do you have permission to distribute this file [10]? From google reverse
image search it looks like it may come from Dojo Toolkit which is BSD licensed
[11]?

Looks like this file [4] may need updating (copyright IBM all over the place).

The binary LICENSE and NOTICE file are missing many things [12]. See also the
guiding principle [13]. I can see code from other projects including Jetty,
Geronimo, mail classes from Sun, ASM core, Apache commons, Jena, Xerces, etc
etc. This is likely to require changes to both the LICENSE and NOTICE files.
Please fix for the next release.

Also please consider signing the release with an apache email address.

Thanks,
Justin

2016-10-17 Thread James Bognar
The Apache Juneau Incubator PPMC has voted +3 to release Apache Juneau
6.0.0-incubating RC3.

This vote carries over +1 binding votes from IPMC mentors.

POJOs.
- A REST client API for interacting with REST interfaces using POJOs.
- A REST microservice API that combines all the features above for creating
lightweight standalone REST interfaces that start up in milliseconds.

+1

I see this as an issue to be resolved prior to exiting incubation, not
something that should impact being accepted for incubation.

Agreed on both points: this is a general concern that should apply
everywhere, and given IBM's past history is particularly relevant to
this proposal.

Re: [discuss] Apache OpenWhisk Incubator Proposal

2016-10-17 Thread Jim Jagielski
I see that this is a proposal that originates, basically from IBM.

I have an issue, based on past history, related to IBM's continued
efforts and dedication on ASF projects. I will not mention specific
projects, but the ASF has a number of projects which died (or
almost died and only were revived via super-human effort) when
IBM decided to switch gears and no longer support the project.

Now most of all this was our fault: the whole intent of Incubation
and the Apache Way is to prevent dependence on a single person
or entity: diversity means being able to continue, in a healthy
way, should someone (or some-thing) decide that the project is
no longer for them.

Considering all this, I would hope and expect that this podling
take extra steps to ensure that we don't get "burned" again...

PS: Nothing against IBM of course: being a business, their strategy
is wont to change, and we cannot (and should not) "fault" them
when such a strategy change adversely affects a project. My
only point is that, based on past experience, we should simply
recognize that IBM dropping their support/resources on this
project at some point is a very real, statistical possibility,
and be serious in our efforts in ensuring this podling/project
can and will survive that.

Re: [VOTE] Apache S2Graph(incubating) 0.1.0 release RC6

2016-10-17 Thread Sergio Fernández
Folks, more votes?
The first release is very important for every podling, and we still need
one additional binding vote.
Thanks.
