Re: [DISCUSS] Graduate Flagon from Apache Incubator as Top Level Project

2022-11-27 Thread Austin Bennett
To not leave this discussion completely undiscussed :-) -->

My vote/thoughts appeared on dev@flagon, which is ultimately in favor of
graduation.

Flagon mentors hadn't raised any other issues, so it seems without [m-]any
critical/needed comments/suggestion during this discussion, it is otherwise
getting time to bring this to a VOTE -- perhaps in another day or few [ at
least sometime after TGiving holiday break for those US based ]?

Voting Counting Procedure - need counted votes be on vote thread?

2022-11-06 Thread Austin Bennett
Hi Incubator,

Looking for guidance on Voting - and I do mean more general than just for
incubating projects. I do see:
https://www.apache.org/foundation/voting.html

I wonder about how to count votes. Specifically, must they occur on the
Vote thread? Can someone cast their vote on another mailing list or
another [ ? related ? ] thread?

My inclination is that a Vote needs to occur on the common Vote thread, for
cleanliness and ease of people tracking throughout the vote. But I don't
see definitive guidelines from the documentation which I have looked at. I
imagine there are at least conventions if not more spelled out
documentation/guidelines?

Please advise,
Thanks,
Austin

Hi Incubator,

The Flagon Community Vote was a unanimous +1. 6 on the flagon dev/user
thread, and another on this [ incubator ] thread. See:

We'll follow up with the next steps of the graduation process [ found:

finalizing resolution/charter, and then an IPMC Vote.

Cheers,
Austin

Community VOTE started for Flagon graduation

2022-10-31 Thread Austin Bennett
Hi Incubator,

Per
https://incubator.apache.org/guides/graduation.html#community_graduation_vote
a Community Vote has started to surface the community's stance on
graduation [ a recent discussion was in favor ], which also suggested it
would be wise to notify this Incubator General List.

The start of the VOTE thread can be found:

Is there a maximum time for incubation? Target? I have not read incubator
docs closely.

I could also see a dashboard with milestones [ various requirements for
graduation ] at various timelines, and whether projects are ahead/behind
'schedule'.

Out of curiosity: is there a specific motivation for the change for the
incubator - or just to keep in line with 'regular' PMC path? Also, is
there a relevant thread somewhere from Board discussion, as to the reason
for the change for PMC wait period?

Re: possible interest in forming a community fork of akka

This seems needed given the state of Lightbend/licensing. Agreed with
Roman's sentiment, though getting Lightbend to change at this point seems
unlikely [ also, I don't have direct contacts there so am not well
positioned to try to negotiate any changes ]. Glad to see people coming
together around this. Notably, I imagine the Flink community will have an
interest in collaborating [ 1 ]. Happy to help the effort, however I can
be useful!
