Re: Kinect LLC, dba Tendenci as a Podling in the Apache Incubation Program

2022-08-19 Thread Wei-Chiu Chuang
Hi

please follow the guidelines to propose a incubating project:
https://incubator.apache.org/guides/proposal.html

You can find example proposals in ASF mail archive, such as this one:
https://lists.apache.org/thread/ns5n6ozl1mdvdbhmkfol67lt163m74v3
Past proposal are archived at the wiki:
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/INCUBATOR/StreamPark+Proposal

A few things to note:

The said project is GPLv3 licensed. Apache Incubator won't be able to
accept GPL project as-is. This includes its dependencies.
"benevolent dictator" model is not recommended in the Apache world.

There's no commit in almost a year and no one seems interested in reviving
the community.

It could still be used/forked by academic researchers but looks like
Apache's not the best home for the project.

I would also like to mention that the Yunikorn community has a Slack
channel with more than 150 members, and is full of constant message flows.
Two community meetups were held recently.

All the evidence suggests that the project is able to sustain itself and
grow beyond.

Looking at the project notification settings (
https://issues.apache.org/jira/plugins/servlet/project-config/YUNIKORN/notifications
),
only issue creation, resolution, close, reopen get sent to dev@, not every
jira notification.
I think this is reasonable. I'm also fine having it more restricted though.

Nit:
The CHANGELOG in the source tree (
https://github.com/apache/incubator-yunikorn-release/blob/v0.12.2-4/release-top-level-artifacts/CHANGELOG)
missed one change that is in the release note page of JIRA (

)

   - [YUNIKORN-962 ] -

I guess it can be removed from JIRA's release note pag since the change is
not part of the source code?

Re: Video conferencing platforms for virtual meetups

2021-08-10 Thread Wei-Chiu Chuang
A while back ago during one of the Apache board meetings, it was discussed
that they wanted to open up the streaming platform used by ApacheCon for
Apache projects to organize virtual events, because they pay for a whole
year's subscription only to use for the few events (ApacheCon).

Not sure what's the status now.

For the several projects I am involved in, we use the Zoom sponsored by my
employer. Since my employer has paid subscription, we don't have the limit.

Quickly glance through the project doc and looks like it's an active
community already.

The Apache Livy (incubating) is a similar project offering REST API for
Spark. HBase has REST API through its Thrift server. Hadoop has YARN REST
API and WebHDFS REST API.
But an unified REST API service for many data systems is necessary, because
those who invest heavily in these Open Source projects tend to use many of
these systems together, not just one.

Unable to access Incubator's web page

2021-07-19 Thread Wei-Chiu Chuang
I am trying to access the Apache Incubator's web page
https://incubator.apache.org/

But it returned with an error message

Misdirected Request

The client needs a new connection for this request as the requested host
name does not match the Server Name Indication (SNI) in use for this
connection.

I tried a few other Apache project web pages and none else has the same
issue. Did someone update the web page recently?
