[gentoo-dev] New developer: Anant Narayanan (anant)

2007-03-20 Thread Christian Heim

It's my pleasure to introduce to you Anant Narayanan (also known as anant or
KillerX) our latest addition to the PHP herd.

Anant is from Chennai, India, and is currently persuing his Bachelor of
Technology in Computer Engineering at the Malaviya National Institute of
Technology, Jaipur.

According to Anant, he's quite experienced working for Opensource projects
(he's one of last years Gentoo GSoc students - he worked on a GuideXML editor
called Beacon). Besides being a GSoc student, he's proficient in C, C++,
python, PHP and Java.

When he's not working on computers, he's watching (unspecified) movies,
reading (books I presume), teaching and writing. Also, according to Anant he
isn't a sports fan.

Please welcome Anant as a new fellow developer among us !

With respect, I don't see how this affects anything to do with the flag? Eg
for my personal use, I need KRB5, LDAP, SMB and mySQL. The only server I
want is mySQL for local web-development with apache2, so I'd set server for
dev-db/mySQL in package.use and leave it at that.

I can understand that USE-conditional deps might be required, eg if a user
(grr like you ppl don't know what usr means ;) wants a web-app it might
require a db server. Firstly, I thought those were coming, and secondly in
that case the user would I would think know that server software was
needed, as s/he would be setting up a server app. A simple ewarn would
suffice imo, since the db server might well be on another host.

Your name suggests you're not a native speaker.
It's a common trick of stand-up comedians
to introduce their next joke with "But seriously, folks ... " (smile).

Indeed, I am not. Thanks for clarification. The only consolation I have
now is that I'm not an expert in common tricks of stand-up comedians in
my native language either ;-) (it doesn't imply any lack of sense of
humor, though).

[gentoo-dev] Re: Distrowatch

2007-03-20 Thread galevsky

Hi all,

I am a new gentoo user (less than a year) and very pleased with this distro.
I just have one point to suggest: I am aware of the recent changes in Gentoo
world, the CoC set-up, council and the troubles arround it. But I think you
missed something very important - and it is for me as I am looking to get
involved into an open project -, this is who is gentoo and who decides, from
an external situation ? I don't think these information are as clearer as
they should. There is a council to lead Gentoo to achieve global
objectives what that means exactly as a dev view ?

These are questions I am facing.

Regards

Gal'

If nothing else, it does prove that the development community is vibrant,
active, and as a whole does not tolerate the bickering which has been the
downfall of many other development groups.

pingus works fine here and I don't see any bugs open for =clanlib-0.6*.
Are you sure it's necessary to remove it?
