See how it looks nothing like XML (invented by a Windows user,

On second thoughts, it looks nothing like perl. There aren't enough $, @
and % symbols in it. But the regex bit stands.

Thind this un-understandable !

It's a joke, and it's been going on for a *very* long time :-)

Every time someone mentions hal, and it doesn't matter what it's about, either
me or Neil will usually post and and tell Dale now is his chance to tell us
about hal. We've done this about 100 times by now so nothing Dale says
is new :-) And everyone else usually joins in the fun.

Sometimes, just for fun, we'll turn the hal joke into something against perl,
or python or anything else really.

If you don't get the joke, you can ignore everything that happened after the
first person mentioned "Dale"

Yea, everybody likes to pick on me. LOL

People seem to forget tho that I have told people to try to use hal,
even with xorg. Sometimes it just works. When it doesn't, remove the
hal USE flag for xorg and life goes on.

I also think sometimes the joke is on everyone else. Even the guy that
wrote hal has given up on that monster. That says a LOT to me.

Dale

:-) :-)

I use hal to make my usb key allways mount on the same mountpoint.

There were quite a lot of X11 libs affected by a recent emerge on my system
and there were almost 68 config files that required installing/updating. A
number of them dealt with the very subject you are enquiring here.

Sorry I can't be more specific - if you look at the files you emerged
in the last week (on a stable system) you will hopefully find the config files
I refer to here. Otherwise, give me a shout and will look deeper into it.

Re: [gentoo-user] Re: [OT] Any centralized documentation on qemu-kvm?

2010-07-17 Thread Walter Dnes
Finally got the show on the road, with the boot ISO image booting, and
even showing the cute penguin . A couple of more advanced questions
now that I have an expert on the line...

1) Are multiple "-redir" clauses allowed in the "qemu-kvm" boot command?
I've got port 22 redirected, and can copy files and tunnel various
services over scp/ssh. Having multiple "-redir" clauses (i.e.
re-mapping various ports) would allow a bit more flexibility.

2) What cpu settings should I use on the guest? The default is 1 core
of a "QEMU" cpu. I may go to 2 (The host has 4 cores). Does
"-march=native" handle it properly, or do I have to "cat /proc/cpuinfo"
and select features that show up in the "flags" line?

I rebooted and everything is working again. I was on pins and needles
while waiting, but a backup went fine last night.

util-linux still complains:

>>> Preparing source in
/var/tmp/portage/sys-apps/util-linux-2.18/work/util-linux-ng-2.18 ...

and that log says

Perhaps you used the wrong -p or --strip option?
The text leading up to this was:
--
|If this patch does not apply cleanly to newer version of util-linux-ng, try
|replacing original lomount.c lomount.h loop.h losetup.8 files in mount
|subdirectory with versions from util-linux-ng that the patch is for. And
|then apply this patch.
|
|mount/Makefile.in is a generated file. You can ignore patch failures on
that
|file if you generate it again by running the ./autogen.sh script. That
|./autogen.sh script needs recent versions of autohell tools.
|

+0200
|+++ util-linux-ng-2.17.1-AES/mount/Makefile.am 2010-03-08
08:44:02.0 +0200

So I suppose I should open a bug on it. If it can't even find the
file, I don't think replacing existing files from elsewhere will do
any good. That also implies upstream will get things straightened out
sooner or later anyway.
