[gentoo-user] problems with revdep-rebuild

2006-12-02 Thread JC Denton
Hi group!

I did an emerge -DvaN world because I changed my USE-flags (gtk2 -xmms) and
got:

...
Calculating world dependencies |
!!! Ebuilds for the following packages are either all
!!! masked or don't exist:
media-plugins/xmms-mpg123 app-text/gpdf media-plugins/xmms-alsa
gnome-base/gnome-libs sci-libs/lapack dev-java/java-gnome
media-plugins/xmms-xmmsmplayer

... done!
[ebuild UD] sys-devel/gcc-4.1.1 [4.1.1-r1] USE=fortran gtk nls (-altivec)
-bootstrap -build -doc -gcj (-hardened) -ip28 -ip32r10k -mudflap (-multilib)
-multislot (-n32) (-n64) -nocxx -objc -objc++ -objc-gc -test -vanilla 28 kB

[ebuild UD] dev-python/sip-4.2.1-r1 [4.5] USE=-debug -doc 0 kB

So I thought it is time for a revdep-rebuild and I got:

Evaluating package order... using existing /root/.revdep-rebuild.5_order.

All prepared. Starting rebuild...
emerge --oneshot =media-libs/flac-1.1.2-r3 =media-plugins/xmms-mad-0.8

..
Calculating dependencies -
emerge: there are no ebuilds to satisfy =media-plugins/xmms-mad-0.8.

revdep-rebuild failed to emerge all packages
you have the following choices:

- if emerge failed during the build, fix the problems and re-run revdep-rebuild
or
- use -X or --package-names as first argument (trys to rebuild package, not
exact
  ebuild)
or
- set ACCEPT_KEYWORDS=~your platform and/or /etc/portage/package.unmask
(and remove /root/.revdep-rebuild.5_order to be evaluated again)
or
- modify the above emerge command and run it manually
or
- compile or unmerge unsatisfied packages manually, remove temporary files and
try again (you can edit package/ebuild list first)

To remove temporary files, please run:
rm /root/.revdep-rebuild*.?_*

I did an emerge -pv --depclean that ended up with this errors:

Dependencies could not be completely resolved due to
the following required packages not being installed:

=media-libs/gst-plugins-0.8.12* required by
media-plugins/gst-plugins-flac-0.8.12
=media-sound/xmms-1.2.10 required by media-plugins/xmms-alsa-1.2.10-r2
=x11-libs/qt-3.3.4-r8 required by kde-base/kdelibs-3.4.3-r1
media-sound/xmms required by media-plugins/xmms-xmmsmplayer-0.5

=media-sound/xmms-1.2.10-r12 required by media-plugins/xmms-mpg123-1.2.10-r1
~kde-base/kde-env-3 required by kde-base/kdelibs-3.4.3-r1
~kde-base/arts-3.4.3 required by kde-base/kdelibs-3.4.3-r1

It is the first time I had such kind of troubles. What can I do about it?
I found that xmms is not longer supported under Gentoo. So how to solve this
emerge problems when all the packages does not exist any more?

[gentoo-user] Wings3d breaks X-window

2006-10-17 Thread JC Denton
Hello!I have a big problem. When I try to construct something with wings3d my x-windows system breaks. I can put a boby or something like this but as soon as I try to rotate the object or manipulate it in some way the system does the same like Ctrl+Shift+Del would do. It just kicks me of my system! I do not know how and wher to look for an error message. Please help!!Thank You!P.S. Because the stable version did not compile I used the ~x86 version. May be this time unstable is the right flag for this? ;) I also used ~x86 for erlang and esdl that were compiled as dependencies.

Is this a configuration problem? Anyway I need the

save to unmerge OpenOffice and use the

Thanks!

 If you run

 # quickpkg openoffice

then you will have a backup of the openoffice that
 you have installed now that
you may remerge at a later time without compiling
 again. Then you can safely
unmerge openoffice and emerge openoffice-bin without
 losing anything.

I did install the openoffice-bin. I did a

ooffice needed to be rebuild. I did the revdep-rebuild
again and ooffice is going to be compiled again. How
to end this? The problem is, that the icons in
Applications/Office/... do not find ooffice. Starting
from the terminal works. Is there something to
reconfigure?

Hi!

I started an emerge openoffice last night. This
morning I found that the emerge failed and that the

I had 1.7GB free and this morning it was 0 GB.

How can I find out how much space I need?

And do I get this space back after the compiling
process is finished?

Thanks!

If both are true, you should get some files in /proc/acpi/fanthat may allow you to manually control the fan.You might also see if 'cat /proc/acpi/thermal_zone/*/cooling_mode' or'cat /proc/acpi/thermal_zone/*/trip_points' report anythinginteresting.Unfortunately the fan in my Dell is controlled by the hardware orBIOS, so I can't be of a lot of help here.-Richard-- gentoo-user@gentoo.org mailing list

Unfortunately you do not have an'active' mode that would allow you to set the temperature when the fanturns on or off.Unless you have something under /proc/acpi/fan, it looks like your fanis
controlled by either the hardware or the BIOS. $ cat /proc/acpi/thermal_zone/THM0/cooling_modecooling mode: passive I am not used to this stuff yet. What does it mean?It means that if the system gets too warm, all the OS can do about itis to throttle the CPU. Re: [gentoo-user] Kernel 2.6.16-gentoo-r7 freezes sometimes

2006-05-24 Thread JC Denton
Ok, I did the configuration of the kernel. And also cdrecord does complain, so everything seems ok. BUT it is not. I can surely say when the system will crash because in this cases it takes aweful long untill I can choose a operating system. And then it hangs when using kernel 2.6.16. I am getting the same error with 2.6.14 but it boots after some time. Is there a problem in the boot conditions? Is there some configuration file that is used while boot time that contains bad things? Do not know what to do anymore. JCRichard Fish [EMAIL PROTECTED] schrieb: On 5/24/06, JC Denton wrote: It seems so. Mainly because I do not know how to change. If you could give me a hint ?Well assuming you are just using ide-scsi so you can access yourCD/DVD burner, it should
be as simple as turing offCONFIG_BLK_DEV_IDESCSI and turning on CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IDECD.Then you will use /dev/hdX (or just /dev/cdrom or /dev/cdrw) insteadof /dev/sr0 as the device for whatever burn software you are using.cdrecord will complain loudly about using a device node, but thenagain, if cdrecord doesn't complain loudly about something, youprobably made a mistake!-Richard-- gentoo-user@gentoo.org mailing list
