Sorry, I made a mistake: I wanted to write 2.5.1-r1..

You are welcome. I got a hint and I successfully removed all links to the
old .la lib, but I got a lot of new problems :)
So, I think I will rebuild X..

Hi Thomas,

Downgrade your xf86-video-intel to 2.5.3.x
I tried to upgrade my system with overlay x11 and USE="xcb" and I got a
totally messed system.

See these, before do anything:

 Hi Mike,

Thank you very much for your help, it is really detailed :)
More than I expect :)

I already read some (short) documents about GEM and now I have a tiny
picture about it.
Following your way I try to rebuild my X. I missed the x11 overlay

Usually I use bleeding edge/unstable things, so, this is not a problem :)

Now I have ~20 or less in action.

Try to use better RAM, like this: BrainExtender v0.98b LongLife XT6725-IU-70
for 70 years warranty ;)

Absolutely, thank you very much again.

This is not necessary, I am better in reading English than writing :)

Hi Mike,

Could you explain this GEM technology a little bit more?
I installed gentoo-sources-2.6.29 + lates (2.6.3) intel driver, but I get
half performance than with 2.5.x intel driver.

Now I call my friend, google to see, what he will tell me :)

Thank you,

Hi Mike,

You should right, I use gentoo-sources-2.6.27.

So, in this case, it is a PEBCAK :)

Thank you for the information!

[gentoo-user] FYI: xf86-video-intel 2.6.x Bad opengl performance

2009-04-02 Thread Pongrácz István

Hello Everybody,

I have a laptop with Intel 945GM videochip. I use ~x86 and I expected a very
bad opengl performance afte I switched to intel driver from 2.5.x to 2.6.

The compiz and playing video were very slow, independently of the CPU usage.

So, after all I downgraded the xf86-video-intel to the latest 2.5.x version
and I got a good performance again.

If one has this kind of issue, try to downgrade to 2.5.x.

Regards,

István

Hi,

Probably you should like to give a try to my livecd.
With that livecd I try to build up a working server solution, based on
gentoo.
I tried it several times in Virtualbox (qemu also good, only a little
bit slower).

Somewhere my previous email is travelling at this moment, I hope it will
arrive to the list :)

Depends on you :)
Normal desktop user prefers the comfortable way, that is why I recommend
Tomboy for you :)

I also use it for ad-hoc notes, etc.

Others prefer vim, joe, mcedit etc :) For console, these are probably
the best :)

Change to gamin.
The same function in much better.
I did it about a year ago. (Or less, I don't remember).
It solved me some other problems (CD lock down etc.)

In the gentoo documents you can find article about how to change it.

I had the same experience, when I turned on the 'DMA engine' option in
the kernel config (from 2.6.18.x)
I disabled it and after it everything are working fine.
