In that case, then, you'd do well to change the external editor command 
in GQView from "gimp %f" to "gimp-remote %f" - then the files will open 
in an existing GIMP instance if there is one, and you can continue to 
avoid the mouse :)

As I told you on IRC, engage the libtool people about it. Unless you
feel like donating a decent OS X 10.4 machine to a developer, this isn't
going to be fixed by just sitting around and whining for it to happen.

You want it fixed, and you're the one who has access to the platform for
testing and investigation, so you have to do some legwork.

So am I to take it that this is an issue with libtool on OS X?  Does
it work with newer/older versions of libtool?  Is this problem
specific to MacOS on x86?

I wonder; are we witnessing the coming-of-age of a new generation of
programmers who grew up *not* using the shell, and who therefore
overlook the importance of shell-like features in the GUI?
