SWF format...
I'm taking a Macromedia Flash class this week and one of the things I'll want to do afterward is find a way to make flash stuff on Linux. So far I have not been able to find any tools. I was wondering if anyone was working on a plugin to save images to .swf format? More info on the format and SDKs can be found here: http://www.macromedia.com/software/flash/open/whitepaper/ http://www.macromedia.com/software/flash/open/spec/ and some other stuff here: http://www.ep.cs.nott.ac.uk/projects/SVG/flash2svg/swfformat.html I've also seen some news that Corel Draw can export SWF files. I'm not a big fan of Corel at all and I the Gimp is how I like to do things. Thanks in advance for any information on the topic. Six months ago I was a bit worried about that... and some other stuff here: http://www.ep.cs.nott.ac.uk/projects/SVG/flash2svg/swfformat.html Having just come back from WWW9 I'm pretty enthusiastic about SVG right now. I can't see the point in continuing to use Flash once there are vendors clambering over each other to produce the best SVG plug-in and (since it's free) it will be built-in on Mozilla eventually. If there's no Flash creation tools at all for Linux, and there are already some steps towards SVG (though not AFAIK animation) it seems like it would be better to just create SVG from go -- but that's maybe not what you want to hear when you're about to do a Flash course. A little bit offtopic but: Mozilla already supports parts of SVG though it's not part of the default built. -- Servus, Daniel

Flash is a vector format while GIMP is pixel manipulation program and most probably not the right app to author flash contents. While flash is a vector format you can embed JPEG images and save them as .swf files. This is more what I was interested in doing. Then again... I guess I could just save .jpg and import them easily enough. I guess I was just keeping an eye on what Photoshop is up to and expecting Gimp to follow along. -- Jon Winters http://www.obscurasite.com/ "Everybody loves the GIMP!" http://www.gimp.org/
