Re: [Gimp-user] GIMP for annotation
Hello Steven, If you're talking about creating a new image with your text overlaid you probably should look at imagemagick. It gives you lots of control and is great in scripts if you're doing bulk operations. An extensive set of examples of how to use it do this can be found here: http://www.imagemagick.org/Usage/annotating/ Mike Hello, I am looking for annotation software (that will run on Red Hat 9) to be used in a classroom setting. Is anyone is using GIMP for this purpose? Is it possible to run GIMP as a transparent overlay for the purpose of annotating content displayed in underlying windows? Any help on this would be much appreciated. ___ Gimp-user mailing list Gimp-user@lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU https://lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user
Re: [Gimp-user] Question about TIFF error message
Carl Smith wrote: I get the following error message when I bring a TIFF image into the GIMP application: TIFF IMAGE MESSAGE- unknown field with tag 34665 (0x8769 encountered). This TIFF image was converted from a RAW file with the Fuji FinePix image converter. Can someone tell me what this means and what I can do to correct it? Thanks, I found a reference to the tag here : http://www.awaresystems.be/imaging/tiff/tifftags/exififd.html It looks like it might have something to do with the EXIF data it's passing on from your RAW file. See if you have an option that leaves this data out. I have a FinePix S9000 and I've been using UFRaw to convert my RAF files . I haven't used the Fuji software yet, so I can't compare it but you might want to have a look at UFRaw as well. http://ufraw.sourceforge.net/index.html Mike ___ Gimp-user mailing list Gimp-user@lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU https://lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user
Re: [Gimp-user] Is this compatible?
TIFF is another good option, however the Wikipedia entry for PNG says it uses a type of lossless compression. Have I missed something here? I am very curious to know the answer as I have started to save my completed photographs as PNG because I thought there was no penalty for doing so. Thanks, Mike http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PNG Chris Mohler wrote: My advice would be to save your files in TIFF format. If you enable LZW compression, the file size will be significantly reduced without losing quality (unlike JPEG, and to some degree PNG). I'm not sure what process your printer is using, but if it's just a full-color transfer, a resolution of 200 DPI will be sufficient.
