real newbie question.
Hi, I've just subscribed to the list in the hope of learning more about how to use this marvelous piece of software. My question isa real newbie on. I have the new Gimp v1.1.24 and was wondering how do you draw straight lines. The normal Alt+click doesn't work. Also is there a cicle drawing tool in Gimp as I need to draw circles for a piece of art I'm doing. I know these are really easy questions but please understand I am new. Thanks in advance, Andrew

Hi, Shouldn't you have read: http://www.gimp.org/~sjburges/straightline/straightline.html Use the eclipse tool for circles, but hold either SHIFT, CTRL or ALT - I can't remember which. Hi, Opps, I forget there isn't an elipse tool but an elipse select tool. Use the elipse section tool to make the circle, invert (or fill), shrink selection, invert (or fill). Here you've got several possibilities: 1. select the pencil/brush tool and draw a point, then hold the shift key and move the mouse to the second point... 2. goto Image-Layers,Channels,Paths-Layers,Channels,Paths..., select the paths, create a new one and stroke it (circle button)... 3. select a one pixel wide rectangle of desired length on a transparent layer and fill it with color, then rotate and transform the layer... 4. ... Also is there a cicle drawing tool in Gimp as I need to draw circles for a piece of art I'm doing. Here, you've got again several possibilities: 1. select an ellipse (hold the shift key to select perfect circles), fill with color, contract selection (Image-Selection-Shrink...), cut the selection... 2. use the GFig plugin (should be included with recent 1.1.x)... 3. ... Hi Thanks for all the help (and so soon). I was holding down the mouse key and trying to drag a staight line, but thanks to you all I now know better 8^) The eclipse tool with the shift key does indeed produce a circle though it is only a selection and when I have it positioned correctly and click to accept it, it vanishes as it would being a select tool. I was after drawing a solid outline in my present colour setting (not filled in). I've looked at the gimp web site and the tutorials there (there are no tutorials as yet for 1.1.24) but nothing seems to cover this. Andrew
