[Gimp-user] GIMP 2.8 per Windows, problem with the color picker

2012-06-16 Thread TracyF
I suspect that Francesco had the same problem I did. In the color picker
dialog box, there is an icon, about 2/3 of the way from the top, which
when one hovers the mouse cursor over the icon, reveals the context help
that one can select a color from anywhere in the screen. When one's
cursor is located over a GIMP window, this is true, one can select a
color; when the cursor is over a part of the screen that is not part of
a GIMP window, the cursor reverts from the eyedropper shape to the
normal cursor shape, and in my experience, one was not able to select a
color from any part of the screen that was not a GIMP related window.

Yes, this is the problem I'm having as well. It's definitely a bug.

[Gimp-user] Solvation of difficult problems with GIMP

2012-06-16 Thread GregorioSalvi
Today I got a problem with updating my GIMP to 2.8. List of filters disappeared
and I couldn't choose format of file to export to. One man with nickname
chumaml helped me in Mibbit chat. With ProcessMonitor software we had found
that zlib1.dll is called from windows/system32 directory. But it should be
called from GIMP 2\bin folder. Solvation of this was renaming this dll in
system folder. I've renamed it and anything got to work. If such a problem
appeared to you and you solved it different way, write it here. :)

But the changes I've seen described for gimp 2.8 are not apparent.

The interface seems unchanged with multiple windows.

It does seem that you can set a single window interface.

Also, supposedly there is an ImagePrecision Menu item which allows me
to set the precision. I don't have that.

On the other hand, when I load a 16 bit image, I don't get a notice
about conversion to 8 bits per channel, and a calculation suggests that
each pixel takes up six bytes.

What is going on? When can I exect additional changes?

Seems you found the single window mode by now :)

You have been misinformed. ImagePrecision has been introduced shortly
after the 2.8 release and for now only is available in the development
version resp. GIT. While it works surprisingly well it is not yet good
enough to be released onto unsuspecting users... :)

On the other hand, when I load a 16 bit image, I don't get a notice

You lose the precision anyway and it depends on the loader plugin if
this dialog is shown or not. Anyway, 6 bytes per pixels seems a tad on
the low side, since Gimp usually needs more (3 or 4 bytes image data, 4
bytes projection, one byte selection mask).

I hope this helps.

Bye,
Simon

Of course you don't. It's not in 2.8 and wasn't even supposed to be.
