[Gimp-user] 2.8.22 is wacky

2017-05-24 Thread Nate Owens
*Selecting the move tool always selects the path tool instead*
Selecting the path tool also opens the path tool
*How to open the move tool?*

*In earlier versions the text along a path tool worked great...*
you could *choose the baseline for the path*, even run it along a circle
Then you could save or export the results cleanly as xcf or other formats
Now the only sensible way to do something remotely resembling this is to
use the cage transform tool and then it is a nightmare with many steps to
get the file saved or exported in any usable way

*Is there a currently functional stable version of Gimp with an accurate
updated user manual?*

I tried Gimp 2.9.? and it was even worse.

Gimp was once my favorite replacement for Photoshop (Adobe is ultra
expensive, and now they rent their software by month or year at ridiculous
prices)

*What are the options to retrieve a usable Gimp?*

*Hope lives on... *

[Gimp-user] Using the Gradient tool

Oh dear

It is in the gradient tool options. Default is FG to BG click in the icon as
screenshot and you get a drop down list of available gradients. Choose the FG to
transparent. Note little 2 way arrow to swap direction.

[Gimp-user] Toggle Visibility of two layers

2017-05-24 Thread programmer_ceds
I can't see a way of selecting the current tool. If I'm wrong and there is a
function call for this and (ideally) an enumeration of the tools for a drop-down
selection box then it would be possible. You would have to consider the settings
of the selected tools - what if you wanted (for example) the pencil with one
radius for when the top layer is visible and a different radius when the top
layer isn't visible?

I previously noted that you can use Ctrl-F to repeat the script if you are using
no other scripts - you can of course assign any script to a keyboard short-cut
if you need to use other scripts between calls of the layer toggling script.

[Gimp-user] Tablet issues

2017-05-24 Thread Kalanco
I've been trying to get pen sensitivity working properly, but the steps I've
been reading are creating unintended behavior. Specifically, when I go to
Extended Input devices, and attempt to set the tablet to screen or windowed in
the appropriate dropdown, using the pen anywhere only attempts to open a
dropdown (as if I had right-clicked using the mouse). The only way the pen works
at all is if it is set to 'disabled', but that prevents me from having any sort
of pressure control.

Relevant Hardware and software:
Windows 10 64 bit
Gimp 2.8
Genius G-Pen 4500

I do have proper drivers installed, and I've attempted all sorts of various
configurations in an attempt to solve this. Have I missed something that's
specific to the Genius series of tablets?

Also, one other feature for this would make it even better: the option to also
select which tool is selected upon toggling.

You've already made something better than I could have asked for, but if you
could add this it'd be perfection.

[Gimp-user] Graphics Tablet not responsive Gimp 2.8

2017-05-24 Thread Lln
My newly installed Turcom 6580 graphics tablet works fine until I try to use it
in gimp. When I open gimp, either pen pressure does not work, or the tablet
stops working entirely until I open another window. Gimp functions fine with my
mouse and the tablet functions fine as a pointer in any other application.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled both gimp and the tablet drivers several
times now. Has anyone had this issue before? I'd be happy to hear any
suggestions from the community.

Pleased that the script is useful.

.scm files are human readable using a text editor so it's easy to look at the
script. Let me know if you make any improvements.

Tools->Paint Tools->Blend->Click on the gradient icon to select desired
gradient

Or get there by clicking on the blend icon in the toolbox

All I really do to these images is barely tweak exposure, gradient
white to transparent and save to PSD files for the layout person. I
sharpen them with a PS batch file, then throw them on the network for
her.

Well, I haven't touched GIMP in a week or so, I wanted to try out the gradient

Name is "FG to transparent" and it's the 5th in the list.
