Re: [Gimp-user] Issue when exporting to PDF

2017-09-09 Thread Rick Strong

I agree with Rich2005. Scribus is good...and free!

I have just finished using Scribus for a full-bleed poster and promo cards,
plus a text-heavy handout. When I export to PDF, I rotate the file on export
180 dgrees to get the resultant PDF right way up on my screen (don't ask me
why, it just works that way). It's easy to add crop and registration marks.

Using Styles for all text is really the way to go. Just wish I could easily
convert manually formatted text into a style without having to recopy the
para/char specs.

Bit of a learning curve, but so has everything else. The more I use it, the
faster I get.

Subject: [Gimp-user] Issue when exporting to PDF

Hello,

When exporting my docment to PDF it adds a tiny white line down each
side, like the page isn't big enough. This doesn't happen when
exporting to JPEG, PNG and others.

Is there anyway I can prevent this from happening? I am looking to get
a poster printed & they've confirmed the best format for them is PDF.

Thanks
Matt

You really need to give more details, OS, the Gimp version + details of
image,

size in pixels, number of layers, width of the 'white lines' in pixels, as
much as possible.

There have been similar reports over the years, I remember one that was just
caused by using A4 size and an odd ppi.

More usually transparent layers are to blame, so check that there are no
un-noticed transparent borders.

However, A PDF going to a commercial printer.

There should be a bleed area, typically 5 mm around the edges. - Ask the
printer

Does the PDF need to be in CMYK and using a specific 'icc' profile - Ask the
printer

Truthfully, Gimp is not the best tool for this, First choice would be the
free

desktop publishing application Scribus.

Make your bitmaps in Gimp, any vector (svg) graphics in Inkscape, Import
those

and add text in Scribus. Plenty Scribus tutorials around.

2017-09-09 Thread Partha Bagchi
GIMP uses the system language on bootup. Once you've started GIMP, go to
the preferences, and change the language from System to English.

[Gimp-user] OSX Change program language of GIMP

2017-09-09 Thread robcubbon
Hello, I want to use GIMP in English. I'm using Mac OS 10.11.6 (15G1611) El
Capitan.

I've just downloaded GIMP. I'm in Thailand but I downloaded Gimp with a VPN
pretending I'm in the UK.

And as soon as it loads you can see there's an issue with language.

Please see attachment.

I have combed the internet for solutions.

This doesn't work
http://www.ekenberg.se/blog/change-gimp-interface-language-on-mac/
tried this in contents/MacOS/GIMP:
echo "Launching GIMP..."
export LANG=en_US.UTF-8
$EXEC "$bundle_contents/MacOS/$name-bin" "$@" $EXTRA_ARGS

tried everything here
http://www.gimpusers.com/forums/gimp-user/18561-choice-of-language
edited gimprc – still doesn't work

even changing language in preferences and guessing the English choices doesn't
work.

Please does someone know another solution.

I want to make a course about how to make money selling tshirt designs on
Amazon. I would like to empower people to do this and I don't want them to spend
money on Photoshop (anyway they won't because they couldn't afford it). So I'm
really keen to get GIMP to work.

Most 'extra' Gimp plugins and scripts can be assigned a shortcut key. Problem is
there are not many keys that are **not** assigned.

The best list of Gimp shortcuts I know is here:

http://clownfishcafe.blogspot.co.uk/p/gimp-28-shortcuts.html and gives
unassigned keys G J V W Y 6 7 8

The Gimp docs for shortcuts is
https://docs.gimp.org/en/gimp-concepts-shortcuts.html which leaves a bit to be
desired.

Check the screenshot:

1. Edit -> Keyboard Shortcuts to open the editor.

2. Type in a search pattern, say auto

3. You will find that Autorotate is marked 'disabled' click on that and type in
(say) j

4. To keep between sessions tick the 'Saveon exit' box

Now after you have drawn your path, hit the j key and the script will activate.

This plug-in ob_align.py might do what you require.

There is a download, and some information here:

Thank you.

That works a treat - once i worked out how to get a usable path.

Is there anyway of making a toolbox button (or keyboard short-cut) to make it
easier to access the Auto-Rotate function, instead of right clicking, selecting
layers, then selecting auto-rotate?

Thanks again.

I did look in the keyboard short cut but didn't find auto-rotate, and i
completely didn't notice that there was a search option.

The standard way is the Rotate tool in 'Corrective (Backward)' mode, line the
grid up with the horizon, click rotate, and the image is rotated accordingly.

However, to draw a 'line' you need a script. One attached 'auto-rotate.scm'
**unzip** it pop it into your Gimp profile scripts folder

Windows C:\Users\"yourname"\.gimp-2.8\scripts

or Linux ~.gimp-2.8/scripts

Usage: Draw a **path** along the horizon, then apply the script, Layer ->
Auto-Rotate
