Activate the color select tool an click the black pentagramm.
Then click on the icon foreground color to change to the desired color.
The use the bucket fill tool to fill the selected area.
Then click on Select - None.
Now you can do do the same on the backgound.
Thats it!

It is a simple two colour image of a pentagram. The pentagram is black

Any help greatly appreciated.

1 - the Tab key will toggle visibility of your toolbox and the

2 - look under Windows-Dockable Dialogs. You will find the tool
options, brushes etc. there. Depending on how long ago you closed

3 - you might want to try Single Window Mode. This is also under the

Well, the issues returned today, and I was able to capture them on video:

https://vimeo.com/81279958

In the video, you can see me trying to drag layers. As I do so, there is no
black line indicating where they will end up when I release the mouse. And when
I do release the mouse, nothing happens. Similarly, when I try to drag the
Paths tab, it shows it being moved, but there is no indication of where it will
land when I release the mouse. And releasing the mouse button just undocks it
even though I'm over another tab. And I can't drag it back and dock it. Then I
click on a few different tools. The first two clicks work, changing the tools.
But subsequent clicks just outline the tool without switching to it.

After capturing the video, just before submitting this reply, I noticed that
everything was working again. I hadn't even closed GIMP. It was the same
session that I used to capture the video of the issues. Dragging layers,
reordering tabs, clicking tools, all are working again. I think the
inconsistency is the most frustrating thing. I have no idea what's breaking or
fixing it. I can't find any pattern to it at all. I mean, it seems
environmental, but GIMP is the only program affected. And I use this computer
for lots of different things (Lightroom, Movie Studio, Inkscape, Blender,
Chrome, gaming, etc.).

I appreciate your time, but unless I can identify a pattern or something, this

You open phot0 1. Now you open photo 2 as a layer.
In the layer-window right-click on the ölayer fo phot 2. Choose: Add
alpha channel
Now choose the eraser-tool an wipe out the parts of photo 2 where you

Could one of those amazing perspective/distortion tools help in such a

I'm not sure I understand what you mean. If you remove part of an
image, there will be a blank space. What else do you expect to see?

[Gimp-user] GIMP on Thin clients

2013-06-17 Thread Gunold Brunbauer

I`m a network administrator in a secondary school.
In our computer network we have 15 thin clients.
I´ve installed GIMP and it worked fine. But when the pupils start gimp,
then there are always some workstations on which gimp ist very, very slowly.
I suppose, that those thin clients on which gimp ist started last wont
get enough memory.

How can I achieve that gimp will use only a limitede amount of memory space?
Thank you for your advice

Dear GIMP users,

First of all I would like to say that GIMP is a great piece of software, i've
been using it since a few days and for a newbie like myself it;s rather
straightforward. Yet now I encounter an obstacle which I can't seem to pass,
it's probably very easy to fix but I just don't see it.
In my webpage header I putted a logo. First, I made the logo background (which
was white) transparant in GIMP and saved the file. Second I putted the logo in
my header, yet the logo doesnt seem to be transparant as it is in the saved file
because the blue header background colour is lighter at the place of the logo.

I hope you guys understand my question, to make it more clear see the attachment
for the file.

any help/tips would be higly appreciated !

regards,
Robert

It's usually better just to have an opaque signature: it's harder to

Browsing and reading this I'm reminded of my problem w/signature
brush. Several
years ago, I made a brush by signing my name in black ink onto a white
paper and
scanning that paper. I use it unobtrusively in bottom right corner
when I print photos
to frame for gallery showings. The problem is this: I can't remember
how I made the
background transparent. I have about 12 sig brushes which are no
good because
with all of them, I used an eraser to get the white background off --
messy. I know there is
a good method of doing this -- I did it years ago -- but I've tried
many times over many
months, and can't recall how I made the signature black with
transparent background.
Does my question make sense? How is that done? (The brush I made
successfully
has my name with 2008, and I just erase the date every time I use it,
but I'd like to

know how to do it again and do it right.)

All GIMP's formats (even xcf) are lossy - at the very least you lost
undo history, which is one reason why people might save lots of copies
of a file as they are working.

 Liam

There are not many applications where the undo history is considered a
tangible part of the current document/project being worked on.

(On the same note, GIMP is the only application I know of where even
the selection is considered a tangible part of the current document
either. In any other application, changing selection doesn't add a
step to the undo history or prompt for saving changes.)
