I'm guessing you mean a drawing tablet, with a stylus. Huion and Wacom
are likely brands, and you can get used ones fairly cheaply. Which one
to get might depend somewhat on which Linux distribution you use - or
if it's Mac OS X or Windows or some other operating system... so do a
Google search first e.g. for "Wacom bamboo gimp", or whichever tablet
you are considering.

If you're here in Canada, Kijiji is a good source, especially in urban
areas; if not, there's also eBay. There are lots of tutorials on
youtube.

[Gimp-user] Tablet

2019-09-03 Thread SkipEllis
New user here. Need suggestions for beginning tablet that works well with GIMP.
Preferably under $100 USD.

I'm mostly into Celtic/Viking art and a little pen/ink/wash landscape things.

Looking forward to getting into the digital realm.

[Gimp-user] Tablet issues

2017-05-24 Thread Kalanco
I've been trying to get pen sensitivity working properly, but the steps I've
been reading are creating unintended behavior. Specifically, when I go to
Extended Input devices, and attempt to set the tablet to screen or windowed in
the appropriate dropdown, using the pen anywhere only attempts to open a
dropdown (as if I had right-clicked using the mouse). The only way the pen works
at all is if it is set to 'disabled', but that prevents me from having any sort
of pressure control.

Relevant Hardware and software:
Windows 10 64 bit
Gimp 2.8
Genius G-Pen 4500

I do have proper drivers installed, and I've attempted all sorts of various
configurations in an attempt to solve this. Have I missed something that's
specific to the Genius series of tablets?

[Gimp-user] Tablet issues

2017-05-12 Thread -Kurenai-
Hi, I recently got a tablet (1060PLUS Huion) and I tried to use it on GIMP. I
enabled it in input devices and followed a couple of tutorials on YouTube on how
to enable pressure sensitivity and such but some things are off. For one, I'm
unable to draw lines in GIMP when I stroke my pen across the tablet. There is
also no pressure sensitivity whatsoever. I've tried everything I could think of,
but the problems remain.

-Windows 10 Pro

-1060PLUS Huion

-GIMP 2

-Yes, I've tried restarting my PC, and I always plug in my tablet before opening
GIMP.

Help would be greatly appreciated!

[Gimp-user] Tablet Help

2017-03-29 Thread amyice
Hi! I'm using a new tablet for the first time and I can't figure out what's
going wrong. It works fine initially, but pressure doesn't work. As soon as I
put the input device option to screen it goes haywire. The cursor is trapped at
the top of the screen, the right click menu starts spamming and it just
generally stops working. It goes back once I put it back to disabled. I use an
UGEE tablet if that helps. Thanks for any help guys

Thanks for the suggestion. I've done that though and it still isn't working. I
downloaded a few other art programs and it's not working on those either. I
guess it's something to do with the tablet, not GIMP, so I messaged Huion and

Please note that "known issue" doesn't mean that anything will magically
change in a next release. Besides, it's only known from the few reports
on this list.

Tablet support is handled by GTK+, and I'm pretty sure none of the
developers own a tablet of this brand. It doesn't help that most of
these issues happen on the Windows platforms, which few to none of the
developers use, either.

If you want to see this fixed. you should help to figure out what has
changed:

- compare the GTK+ versions packaged in the 2.8.18 and 2.8.20 installers
- then the code changes there, between the specific states in
https://git.gnome.org/browse/gtk+/log/?h=gtk-2-24

[Gimp-user] Tablet/smartphone app for gimp dashboard via MIDI?

2013-06-07 Thread Dexter Filmore
When I heard about the ability to take commands from MIDI devices the thought
corssed me to abuse a MIDI pad app to use it as a gimp dashboard to have
quick access to your favorite functions, maybe even brush size etc via a

Turns out I have no idea how set somethign like that up as I know not much
about MIDI and neither what app would be suitable or how to set it up.

Has anybody done something in that direction?
Would a Gimp Dashboard app be possible that way?

That would give one most of the control to the free hand when the other is
used for the stylus or mouse.

Re: [Gimp-user] Tablet

2012-01-11 Thread Richard Gitschlag

In my experience (GIMMP 2.4 thru 2.6, Windows XP, Wacom Intuos 3) sometimes
GIMP has trouble detecting the tablet during its startup routines. If this
happens then you can still use the tablet to interact with interface elements
(toolbars, menus, etc.) but when attempting to draw with it it will either
react like a normal mouse cursor (i.e: no pressure sensitivity) or fail to do
anything at all.

You can confirm this by going to your GIMP's Edit Preferences, under Input
Devices click Configure Extended Input Devices and if GIMP says none are
found then this means it didn't detect the tablet at all. In which case, first
try rebooting GIMP (after attempting to use the tablet, of course) and see if
that makes a difference.

Subject: [Gimp-user] Tablet

I downloaded Gimp and have a tablet plugged it, but anytime I try to make say
a line using the tablet, nothing appears. The tablet is on and working. The
only way now I can make a line is by using the mouse. Please help.
